Though Phoenix Pictures is currently enjoying a lot of buzz for Darren Aronofsky's highly anticipated Black Swan, the company is making the hump from the darkly serious to the raucously hilarious. Deadline reports the company has lined up Absolutely Anything, a new comedy project featuring the talents of Monty Python troupe member Terry Jones and "Daily Show" correspondent and stand-up comedian John Oliver. Written by Jones and Gavin Scott (Small Soldiers). Though details are sparse on the story, it apparently involves "aliens, a goofy Brit, a talking dog and buckets of silliness." Brilliant!
Oliver is set to star and apparently Jones is already talking with Robin Williams about playing Dennis the Dog, who I can only assume is the aforementioned talking dog. And for all you Monty Python fans out there, Jones is looking to get John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle and even Terry Gilliam to voice the aliens. Producer Mike Medavoy from Phoenix Pictures succinctly points out their motivation to back the project when he says, "Funny is money." The prospect of a Monty Python reunion of sorts has me extremely excited, and I've always enjoyed Oliver's segments on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." With a comedy as crazy sounding as this I think we're in for a lot of laughs. Excited?
