Many fans were excited by the news that Inception star Tom Hardy had snagged a major, unrevealed role in the next Batman movie from Chris Nolan. In addition, we recently heard that he's one of the frontrunners for the lead role in Total Recall. Though his schedule seemed rather crowded, it looks like he's making time to squeeze in a project between production on the McG action comedy This Means War with Chris Pine, and the upcoming sequel to The Dark Knight. The Playlist reports that Hardy is close to signing a deal to take a major role Snow White and the Huntsman, one of the many fairytale adaptations now in development.
Since the project was unveiled at the end of September, development has moved rather swiftly in a short amount of time to have already reached casting. Of course with The Brothers Grimm: Snow White and Snow and the Seven still in the works, it's easy to see why time is of the essence. In addition to Hardy's role as the titular hunstman named Eric (haunted by the death of his wife at the hands of a white wolf), apparently Universal wants to get Angelina Jolie to play Ravenna, the evil queen and villain of the piece. Though she'll be completing her directorial debut on the Bosnia War set love story we recently heard about, she doesn't have any projects lined up as an actress next year. However, her supposed link to Tim Burton's evil queen centric film Maleficent may keep her from taking the role.
As for Snow White, it looks like an unknown will take the role as a huge casting call is apparently taking place in the UK right now. Though The Playlist says the script is a very strong action adventure story, I'm kind of worried about the rushed development tainting what would-be a unique adaptation of the classic fairytale. It sounds like they're on the right track with the casting, but with commercial director Rupert Sanders making his feature directorial debut with this big of a film, it does raise some concerns. What do you guys think?
