The Walking Dead - Bicycle Girl Zombie

One thing I love about my job is that I often get an intimate look at the behind-the-scenes and technical side of filmmaking. Over the years I've come to love and appreciation the work that KNB, a legendary special FX company, does on all kinds of movies. If there's any blood or zombies or vampires or any creatures involved, KNB probably did the make-up for it. They're the best of the best and I don't often have a good opportunity to highlight them, which is why I'm breaking our own rules to feature this fantastic behind-the-scenes video created for AMC's adaptation of the zombie comic series "The Walking Dead" (from Bloody-Disgusting).

Watch a behind-the-scenes video about "Bicycle Girl" with KNB for AMC's "The Walking Dead":

KNB EFX Group is run by make-up/special effects veterans Gregory Nicotero and Howard Berger (also originally founded by Robert Kurtzman). Nicotero specifically appears in this and it's a rare opportunity to see him working on turning an actor into a zombie and it's awesome to see. AMC's "The Walking Dead", based on Robert Kirkman's popular comic book series, tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. Old world Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. This is one TV show that I cannot wait to see once it debuts in October. You can also find the teaser trailer from Comic-Con still on YouTube.

Despite the fact that I consider myself much more of a movie person, the comic is my favorite piece of fiction from any medium ever. If they put this much thought into the characters, and tone as they did into the zombies, than maybe the show has the potential to be as great as the comic. Heres to hoping.

Whiz-bang! If you maintain this calibre, break the rules more often!

It is so awesome to see practical make-up effects and casting to create an impressive gag rather than just CGI. It looks awesome and physically real, you know. I am really looking forward to this.

By far my favorite comic in print at the moment. I have all the hardbacks that are out. This is a great idea though, I don't think I've ever seen a zombie TV show... If somebody has, please point it out but I got nothing.

@goudos I totally agree. Posted this last week. Very cool and KNB did some really great work.
  • Awesome! Can;t wait. I hope this show gets good ratings cause it can't be cheap to look that good. Plus the acting better be on point from the "living" cast.
  • #2 - Glad you guys liked it, I'll do my best to bring you more cool stuff like this. :)

@ Number 8 If you've not seen Dead Set yet then thats an awesome zombie TV show from here in the UK. It was written and (i think) produced by Charlie Brooker and is based around the Big Brother reality show!
