Will Ferrell Joins Spanish Language Comedy 'Casa De Mi Padre'

Will Ferrell

In a move that would be worthy of an "Ay dios mio!" from Fred Armisen's SNL character Ferecito of Showbiz Grande Explosion, The Wrap says Will Ferrell will star in and produce the Spanish language comedy Casa De Mi Padre (aka The House of My Father). Even though Anchorman showed us clearly that Ferrell (or at least Ron Burgundy) doesn't speak or understand Spanish, the entire movie will be in Spanish with English subtitles. Plot details are being kept under wraps so it's unclear if this is meant to be an over-the-top comedy where the language will only add to the hilarity, or if it's simply just a comedy that happens to be in Spanish.

Likely it will turn out to be the former since Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions is behind the project with an unnamed Funny or Die collaborator lined up to direct (though they say it will not be his collaborator Adam McKay). You may not believe Ferrell has enough experience in the Spanish language to make this possible, but let's not forget his melodramatic use of the language in that one scene in Bewitched, not to mention the fact that there's a good chance he wrote Ben Stiller's line "Como estan, bitches?" from Anchorman anyway. He's practically Mexican already! In all seriousness though, this has the potential to be something hilarious, but I'll wait until we get some plot information and more cast members to form a better educated opinion.

Good good. Sounds fresh as hell.

So... it's joking about a language they don't know neither speak totally. Oh, got it, "Mucho gusto" sounds hilarious, right? This is an offensive piece of sh*t.

he may have stumbled upon a comedy goldmine...

Really Ethan? "He's practically Mexican already!" Wow, way to be culturally sensitive. clASSy!

@ #7, It's called sarcasm. Obviously you've heard of the term. If you take that statement as anything but a joke about how we really don't know if Will Ferrell can speak fluent Spanish then you have problems of your own to flesh out before you attempt to tell somebody they are culturally insensitive. Speaking of which, how is that culturally insensitive? Are you saying Mexicans (or even Spanish, or other people who speak the language in question) wouldn't be happy to have someone like Will Ferrell as part of their culture? Or are you saying that it's offensive to Will Ferrell to be called Mexican? Either way it sounds like you've made a hasty decision in unjustified mud slinging. Well done. Oh and by the way, I'm half-Mexican with a whole side of family here legally straight from Mexico. Anything else? Cheers,

Ethan Ferrell did sing "Con Te Partiro" word for word eventhough it was in italian. so I think he could grasp spanish language fairly well. @Carson dude honestly chill. People need to quit getting so offended! P.C. is not the way to be!

wait correction! Ferrell sang "Por ti Volare" a translated spanish version. So the majority my first post it incorrect.

Is it just me or does Will's comedy not work on the big screen as well as it does on the small screen?

Just from the comments alone, I'm watching this. 🙂
