Worth Watching: First New Trailer for Jon Knautz's The Shrine

Creepy or cheesy? I could swear we've written about this movie before, but I couldn't find anything in our archives. The Shrine is the next feature from the folks behind the horror-comedy Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, but this one has no comedy (as far as I can tell). It's about some people who "investigate" a cult that practices human sacrifice, but I remember originally hearing something about the shrine coming to life or something like that. If true, that's a spoiler they don't want out there - woops! Anyway, this trailer debuted on STYD and it doesn't look that bad, but not that great either. There is an older trailer on YouTube, too.

The Shrine was written and directed by Canadian indie filmmaker Jon Knautz, of horror flick Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer as well as numerous sci-fi and horror shorts. The screenplay was co-written by Knautz and Brendan Moore. This Brookstreet Pictures production was shot last year up in Ontario and is premiering at the FanTasia Film Festival in Montreal in a few weeks. It does not have any US distributor yet, so we're not sure when to expect it in theaters (or probably straight-to-DVD), but stay tuned for more updates as always.

#1, in what way is that "cheesy"? i'm interested enough in the plot to want to see it. and just from that brief look, it appears to have decent atmosphere.

Most definately cheesy. I mean, the way it was presented suggested that it had more to do with the horror than the reason they were being sacrificed. Ashmore should know better.

Looks almost poorly made but even it looks like it's already doing better than alot of supposedly scary movies I've seen in the past few years in theaters. Just hope the preview didn't reveal too much. The plot doesn't seem very creative or original but who knows maybe it'll be a surprise.
