'Mortal Instruments' and 'Last Apprentice' Vying for Alex Pettyfer
His breakout role in DreamWorks' adaptation of I Am Number Four doesn't hit theaters until February 18th, but young British model turned actor Alex Pettyfer is already a hot commodity in Hollywood. Last week came the news that Screen Gems had offered Pettyfer the lead male role in their adaptation of The City of Bones, the first book in Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series. However, we're glad to have held off on that news because now Vulture reports Warner Bros. may have pulled Pettyfer away from that project by offering him the lead role in The Last Apprentice, a young adult novel by Joseph Delaney.

Jon Gries and Val Kilmer Together Again to Go 'Deep in the Heart'
The two actors worked together on the goofy comedy Real Genius before one went on to become Batman while the other became Napoleon Dynamite's scheming Uncle Rico. Now THR reports Val Kilmer (along with a tremendous beard that would make Joaquin Phoenix blush) and Jon Gries are reuniting for Deep in the Heart, a new indie flick that follows Richard Wallrath, a real-life alcoholic who reinvents himself and puts hundreds of kids through college via his charitable donations. Wallrath went on to become a Texas entrepreneur who is the biggest all-time individual donor to the state's 4-H and Future Farmers of America.

Watch: Paul Rudd and Jason Segel Finally Hanging Out with Rush!
In the '09 comedy I Love You, Man some of the greatest moments came from Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) and Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) and their obsession with the legendary Canadian rock band Rush. Whether they were rocking out in the man cave or licking each other's basses at a secret underground concert, it was clear that these two were die-hard Rush fans. Well now the two characters get to live the dream of any Rush fan in a new video from Funny or Die that has Rudd and Segel reprising their roles from that same comedy as the two characters find themselves backstage in a bit of an awkward meeting with the whole band. Enjoy!

Check Out the First Poster for Chris Weitz's New Film 'A Better Life'
Every father wants more for his son. Our friends at Cinematical have debuted the first official poster for director Chris Weitz's new indie film A Better Life, which you may otherwise know as The Gardener. It's simply a film about a hard-working immigrant who lives in Los Angeles and his efforts to protect his son - unlike Weitz's last two films, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Golden Compass. There's no release date yet nor a trailer, but this is a good sign that all of that should coming soon. In addition to this poster (see below) the guys at Cinematical spoke with Weitz about the film and why he decided to direct this next.

John Woo's 'The Killer' Getting an English-Language 3D Remake
Last September we found out that director John Woo was in the midst of planning a remake of his own 1989 Hong Kong police action flick The Killer. At the time it sounded like Woo was going to tackle the remake itself, but today Essential Entertainment and Lion Rock Productions revealed Korean director John H. Lee (A Moment to Remember) will be at the helm of the English-language remake. For those who aren't die-hard Woo fans, the original film follows an elite Asian assassin who risks everything to protect a beautiful singer that he unintentionally blinded, but can only do so with the help of an LAPD detective trying to catch him.

Watch: Theatrical Trailer for 'Elektra Luxx' Starring Carla Gugino
Don't worry, this isn't porn, it's an indie film, but it might be a little NSFW anyway. Apple has just debuted the trailer for Sebastian Gutierrez's indie film Elektra Luxx, starring Carla Gugino as pornstar Elektra Luxx. The film is kind of a sequel to Gutierrez's ensemble drama Women in Trouble, as Gugino also starred in that as the very same Elektra Luxx. This one also includes a great indie cast the likes of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adrianne Palicki and Malin Akerman. It looks pretty low budget to me, but may be fun to watch. It already premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year and is hitting theaters in March.

First Poster for Judd Apatow Produced 'Bridesmaids' Has Attitude
We've been hearing about Bridesmaids from writer Kristen Wiig and producers Judd Apatow and Paul Feig ("Freaks and Geeks") for a little while now. Fortunately, the first poster doesn't make this look like your average wedding comedy as the bride (Maya Rudolph), maid of honor (Wiig) and bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) are lined up with attitude. With Apatow's raunchy, male-centric comedies like 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up & Superbad highlighted at the top, I think it's time for the women to have some fun this time around. Check this out!

Katherine Heigl, Jon Bon Jovi & More Celebrating 'New Year's Eve'
Though she was originally set to star in Garry Marshall's first holiday-themed ensemble romantic comedy Valentine's Day, actress Katherine Heigl wanted $3 million for her role in the film. Since that salary would've been higher than any of the other stars in the film (including Julia Roberts), she was left out in the wind. But now apparently she's ready to play ball with Marshall again as Deadline reports Heigl has landed a role in New Year's Eve, the newest holiday ensemble film set to follow intertwining stories of a group of New Yorkers as they navigate their way through bittersweet drama and romance over the course of New Year's Eve.

New 'Scream 4' Poster Throws Back to Original Franchise Design
Last week we highlighted a higher quality version of the newest trailer for Scream 4, the tongue-in-cheek slasher sequel from director Wes Craven. Frankly, I think the next installment looks to deliver more of the same with an eye towards highlighting the new clichés of this last decade of horror. Now their marketing is in full swing as a new poster for Scream 4 has been revealed that throws back to previous franchise posters with the glowing, frightened face of a female victim inside the sequel number. As the tagline so graciously points out this is a new decade with new rules and plenty of new victims for Ghostface Killer to slice 'n dice.

Producer Brad Fuller Updates on Freddy Krueger, Jason and More!
Considering the fact that there are plenty of people who weren't very pleased with horror franchise remakes like last year's A Nightmare on Elm Street, or 2009's Friday the 13th, the lack of any news on the sequels to those reboots may be good news. Well, producer Brad Fuller apparently felt the need to come out of the woodwork with some brief but helpful updates on those potential sequels and the status of some other films like the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and remake of Monster Squad. However, it sounds like we still have plenty of time before any real progress is made on any of these projects, especially the horror sequels. Read on!

Weinstein Company Announces Plans for Another 'Scary Movie'
Though the first installment of the spoof franchise was legitimately funny, Scary Movie has since become just another cheap attempt to snag cash from the most easily entertained of audiences. The last installment of the parody series was released in 2006, but The Weinstein Company apparently revealed on Facebook (via ComingSoon) that they are planning a Scary Movie 5. Perhaps the company is counting on Scream 4 reinvigorating the audiences who like to see horror films like that parodied, but recently, the series has turned away from lampooning horror movies to simply skewering various sects of pop culture.

'The King's Speech' Tops 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards Winners
The King's Speech strikes gold once again! Earlier tonight the star-studded 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony was broadcast live on TBS & TNT. What separates the annual SAG awards from the Golden Globes and the Oscars is not only its exclusivity to honoring only performers, but it's the only award show where the best performances are chosen by their fellow acting peers. The winners of the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards have been announced, and we have an official list of all the motion picture honorees (for TV and more, head to Deadline). In addition to TKS, Portman, Bale, Leo and even Inception also won awards.
