DreamWorks & Steve Zaillian Take On the 'Timecrimes' Remake
A US remake of Nacho Vigalondo's Spanish time travel flick Timecrimes has been in the works ever since it was first picked up for distribution, more than two years ago, but not much has happened. However, some news means progress is being made, as Deadline says the remake is now in development at DreamWorks instead of United Artists. Still spearheading the project is Oscar winning writer/filmmaker Steve Zaillian (Gangs of New York, All the King's Men, American Gangster), who brought the project to UA to begin with and will produce and rewrite the script, which had first drafts written by Tim Sexton. And that's all there is.

Ben Affleck May Direct Black Listed Screenplay 'American Bullshit'
After turning down the chance to direct Tales from the Gangster Squad for Warner Brothers, director Ben Affleck is still looking for another project to follow-up The Town. We've already heard that he's interested in adapting Replay for Warner Bros, and he's had The Trade in his backpocket for a while now, but a new project has just surfaced. The Wrap reports the actor-turned-director is looking at American Bullshit, a script that was #30 on last year's Black List that tells the true story of Abscam, the FBI's 1980 undercover sting operation of Congress to root out corruption which was the brainchild of the world's greatest con man.

Marc Webb's New 'Spider-Man' Won't Have a J. Jonah Jameson?
We just got our first look at The Social Network star Andrew Garfield in full costume as Spider-Man for Marc Webb's new web-slinging franchise. Since filming is under way, and most of the major characters have been cast to include the likes of Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, people seem to have forgotten about a role many were concerned about being re-cast. Because J.K. Simmons did such an amazing job playing The Daily Bugle editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man franchise, we've been wondering who might replace him. Now we may have an answer.

Another Wonderful International Trailer for 'Water for Elephants'
I don't know if I picked that circus, but something told me that circus picked me. Fox has debuted another full-length trailer in New Zealand for Francis Lawrence's Water for Elephants adaptation, but thanks to YouTube (via SlashFilm) we've got it for your viewing pleasure. This period drama stars Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, James Frain & Hal Holbrook. It's about a veterinarian who joins a circus and falls in love, with both a girl and the job. We featured the official US trailer for this back in December but I'm happy to feature more because it looks phenomenal, one of my most anticipated in spring.

Must Watch: New Official Trailer for Crazy Killer Tire Film 'Rubber'
Last year we featured a teaser trailer for a film called Rubber about, believe it or not, a sentient rubber tire that rolls around and blows people up because it doesn't like the way humans treat, well, tires. I saw the film in Cannes (read my review) then it played Fantastic Fest int he fall, where our own Jeremy Kirk saw it and loved it (read his glowing review). Rubber is hitting limited theaters in a few months, and Magnet Releasing has released a theatrical trailer that's just as wacky as the film itself. This is easily the weirdest and wackiest film I've seen, but watch out, because not everyone is going to love this (I didn't like it). But enjoy anyway!

'Social Network' Producing Team to Adapt Ben Mezrich's New Book
If you didn't already know, the Golden Globe winning film The Social Network was actually adapted from a book called The Accidental Billionaires written by Ben Mezrich, the same author who wrote 21: Bringing Down the House, which was adapted into the blackjack flick 21. Well, the producing team behind The Social Network, which includes power-producers Michael De Luca (Brothers, Drive Angry 3D) and Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, Revolutionary Road) as well as Kevin Spacey's assistant-turned-producer Dana Brunetti, are officially set to work on bringing Mezrich's latest book, Sex on the Moon, to the big screen.

First Look: Bad Quality Leaked Cast Photo for 'X-Men: First Class'
It's a small, low res photo that originally was released with a huge watermark on it before Bleeding Cool got their hands on a cleaner version. But that said, this new first look photo at the cast from Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class still makes it look like a soap opera superhero B-movie, which I know it's not, and Fox doesn't want it out there, but everyone's talking about it, so we have to jump on the bandwagon even though I wish we had a better first look. Seen below (from L->R): Magneto, Moira MacTaggert, Emma Frost, Azazel, Hank McCoy, Havok, Angel Salvadore, Raven Darkholme aka Mystique and of course, Prof. Charles Xavier.

Josh Lucas to Play Charles Lindbergh in Clint Eastwood's 'J. Edgar'
Towards the end of last year, we found out that Damon Herriman ("Justified") had landed a role in Clint Eastwood's biopic J. Edgar starring Leonadro DiCaprio as the titular FBI director. Herriman was said to play Bruno Hauptmann, the man convicted of kidnapping and killing the Lindbergh baby. Well, it sounds like the disappearance of the Lindbergh baby will be an integral part of the biopic as Deadline reports Josh Lucas will play the infamous aviator Charles Lindbergh. It's still not clear how much time Eastwood's biopic will cover, but the investigation surrounding the historical kidnapping and murder will clearly be a pivotal part of the film.

Alexander Payne is Set to Direct 'Nebraska' for Paramount Pictures
The project first came around to Alexander Payne back in 2004, but now it sounds like Nebraska might finally get off the ground with the Sideways director at the helm. The Playlist has learned that Payne will follow his forthcoming film The Descendants with this gestating family drama. The story follows an aging alcoholic father who thinks he’s won a million dollar Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes prize. But when his family tries to stop him from making the trip from Montana to Nebraska to collect his winning, the father's twentysomething son (who doesn't believe the ticket is a winner) is forced to accompany him on the trip after years of separation.

Johnny Depp Chats Briefly on Playing Tonto in 'The Lone Ranger'
Back in November we got the official word from Disney that Gore Verbinski, director of the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films would reunite with franchise star Johnny Depp for a big screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger. The project had been gestating for awhile, but now it's just that more of a reality sometime in the future. While we still don't have a name to play the titular character, Depp is definitely on board to play the hero's reliable sidekick Tonto. As for the project itself, Depp told EW, “I think it’s going to be good, when we have a chance to put it up on its feet. What we’ve got so far screenplay-wise is really great, really funny.” More below!

'The King's Speech' Leads Nominations for 64th Annual BAFTAs
After the Golden Globes were handed out over the weekend, the next big awards show we're looking forward to is the 83rd Academy Awards including Anne Hathaway & James Franco hosting the ceremony. However, across the pond, the UK is having their big night to celebrate cinema a bit earlier, so the nominations for the 64th Annual BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) were announced today, with winners coming February 13th. Unsurprisingly, The King's Speech lead the pack with 14 nominations, but Black Swan and Inception came away with a whole slew of solid noms, too. Check out the full BAFTA list below!

After starring in the 1998 Broadway production of Arthur Miller's 1955 play A View from the Bridge, actor Anthony LaPaglia (Legend of the Guardians) will reprise his role in a feature film adaptation of the play from director Robert Connolly (Balibo).
