Check This Out: Kung Fu Panda 2's Epic Banner of Awesomeness
It really is going to be a year of awesomeness! (If you can't tell, I'm being hyperbolic for most of this post.) I was browsing IMPAwards today and noticed this awesome new banner for DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda 2. Now that Shrek Forever After and Megamind are out of the way, this is their focus for 2011, hence the TV spots airing five months early proclaiming it to be the "Year of Awesomeness!" I just love how beautiful wide this banner is (compared to the shorter English version) and how totally freakin' cool it looks having all six of the uh, Furious Five, flying down from above ready to kick some ass. It just looks awesome!

Is Coppola Shooting a Segment of 'Twixt Now and Sunrise' in 3D?
Late last year we wrote about a new horror-thriller that the great Francis Ford Coppola was already in the middle of quietly shooting called Twixt Now and Sunrise. We don't know too much about it besides that it stars Val Kilmer as a horror novelist, as well as Elle Fanning and Bruce Dern. Well, found in a new interview with Coppola on The 99 Percent (via SlashFilm) is mention of a very interesting aspect of the film. Not only was it apparently inspired by "an alcohol-induced dream [Coppola] had in Turkey" but he may have already shot one "brief dramatic segment" of it in 3D. Uh what- is Coppola turning into Gaspar NoƩ?

Trent Reznor Scoring David Fincher's 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'
Looking back at 2010, one piece of last year that I know will be talked about for years is Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' score for David Fincher's The Social Network, that's not only topping a lot of best soundtrack lists (including the /Filmcast's Best of), but is just an amazing contemporary score than many folks listen to on a daily basis. So I'm not really surprised, but I am very excited to report that Trent Reznor is scoring Fincher's next film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake, that he's shooting. The Nine Inch Nails musician confirmed during a live chat with Jon Pareles on Times Talk tonight (caught by The Film Stage).

'Exorcism of Emily Rose' Director Takes on Biblical 'Goliath' Tale
We've heard about projects of literally Biblical proportions in the form of adaptations of The Bible Code and a planned 300-like retelling of the story of Moses, and now another Biblical tale is headed to the big screen. Heat Vision reports director Scott Derrickson, behind The Exorcism of Emily Rose and the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still, is set to helm Goliath, a period action movie based on the familiar tale of David vs. Goliath. While the movie is supposed to be set in historical times, it will have a contemporary feel not unlike 300 with a spirit that apparently embodies Bourne Identity. But, I'm not really sure what that means.

Confirmed: Elijah Wood Returing as Frodo Baggins in 'The Hobbit'
Yesterday, we reported that Warner Bros will be paying the entire $500 million pricetag to finally get the long-gestating adaptation of The Hobbit off the ground with Peter Jackson at the helm. While the cast has certainly been growing over the past few months, yesterday's news brought an interesting new addition in the form of Elijah Wood potentially reprising his role as Frodo Baggins from Lord of the Rings. Because of his relation to The Hobbit's main character, Bilbo Baggins (to be played by Martin Freeman), this didn't seem absurd, but now TheOneRing.net has confirmed the return as Frodo and details on the size of his role.

Johnston Says Working on 'Captain America' Has Been 'Amazing'
We all know there's been rumored ups and downs with Marvel's relationships with various filmmakers, but it's always a relief to hear a director happily talk about how great their current working relationship is, and that's exactly what Joe Johnston, director of Captain America: The First Avenger, does in a quote on ComicBookMovie. It comes from an arranged chat that Ed Gross had with Johnston, where he essentially lets Joe speak about how Wolfman's experience was bad, but Captain America is doing amazingly well, so much so that he says it's "probably the most universally positive experience I've had in this mad business."

Lukas Haas & Diego Luna Joining Mark Wahlberg in 'Contraband'
We already know that the lovely Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster and Giovanni Ribisi will join Mark Wahlberg in Contraband, the remake of the Icelandic thriller Reykjavik-Rotterdam. The story follows a security guard and former alcohol smuggler on the Iceland-Netherlands route who is tempted back into illicit business by a dubious friend after encountering financial problems. Baltasar Kormakur (the original film's star and producer) is directing this remake, and he's just brought on some great supporting talent as What's Playing reports Lukas Haas (Inception) and Diego Luna (Milk) have just signed on to star in the frigid thriller.

Watch: Hammer Films' 'The Resident' Trailer with Hilary Swank
Aww crap this doesn't look so good. Pajiba found a full-length trailer for Hammer Films new thriller The Resident (originally titled Invasion Of Privacy), the first Hammer Film to also bring back Christopher Lee, who was a staple in their horror classics from the 60s & 70s. Yes, somehow it is already shot and ready to be released, but it's going straight-to-DVD and not getting much attention. Hilary Swank stars as a new resident at an apartment in New York who is stalked by her landlord, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It also stars Lee Pace and, of course, Christopher Lee. Okay, it doesn't look awful, just not that great either. Take a look!

Looking Back: The Top Five Most Terribly Awful Films from 2010!
While there were plenty of great films to see in 2010, many still failed to impress and, in some cases, were laughable and unbearable to watch. Of course there are some films that I was able to avoid at all costs, and while they may be worthy of an mention on here, I can't officially riff on the romantic comedy You Again, the Hanna-Barbera grave-turner Yogi Bear, action-comedies Killers or The Bounty Hunter, garbage like Furry Vengeance and many others. Though these may not definitively be the Five Most Terribly Awful Films from 2010, they're definitely the five worst films I've actually subjected myself to this year.

Luc Besson is Quietly Directing a Feature Biopic Called 'The Lady'
What the - is Luc Besson making a big comeback? Deadline published an interesting report about French filmmaker Luc Besson, who was going to retire years ago, working on another project. Apparently Besson is quietly shooting a biopic in Paris called The Lady, telling the story of Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was in the news a lot after being released from house arrest last November. Starring in the lead role is Michelle Yeoh, who has mostly been back in China, but she met Suu Kyi prior to shooting. EuropaCorp is fully financing the Left Bank Pictures production, but it doesn't have a US distributor yet.

NASA Names '2012' the Most Scientifically Inaccurate Film Ever
We just recently featured a checklist chronicling bad science in the movies, but now NASA has weighed in with a little science-in-movies feature of their own. In a day-long private meeting at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, some of the top minds in the world met to discuss the film industry's most popular sci-fi movies and their accuracy (or mostly lack thereof) in representing real science. It's no surprise that 2012 was named the most absurdly inaccurate sci-fi film ever with NASA's Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous head Donald Yeomans calling it an "exceptional and extraordinary" example of bad Hollywood science - ha!

Edgar Ramirez as God of War Ares in 'Wrath of the Titans' & More
Next after Sam Worthington it's Edgar Ramirez making his mainstream debut in the Clash of the Titans sequel? Deadline says that the 33-year-old Venezuelan actor, who was in Domino, The Bourne Ultimatum, Vantage Point, Che and Carlos, has been offered the role of Ares, the God of War, in the upcoming sequel Wrath of the Titans from Legendary and Warner Bros. Apparently Ramirez is "on the verge of making a deal" to star opposite Worthington, so it's his role to take. I'm wondering if they're playing Ares as a bad guy in this sequel or as a helpful new "good guy" God who will guide Perseus on his quest, as we don't know yet.
