Check This Out: 'Fight the Foot' Fan-Made TMNT Short Film Prequel
If you're a longtime reader, you probably know I'm a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan and have been since I was a kid when the original live-action TMNT movies arrived in the early 90's. That also means I'm very excited for the new live-action movie in the works, but since that's a long ways off (at least 2012) I wasn't expecting to see anything TMNT for a while, but a fan-made short has been floating around the web and it kicks plenty of ass. The short is called Fight the Foot and is an unofficial prequel set in "the world before Shredder arrives." There's not much action in it but it's pretty damn cool for a fan film. Watch below!

Rodrigo Cortes Nabs Sundance Star Elizabeth Olsen for 'Red Lights'
Right now she's being dubbed the Sundance "It" girl as she's starring in two films here at the Sundance Film Festival (see our coverage here). Elizabeth Olsen (sister of the Olsen twins) not only leads the horror remake Silent House, but she's also getting a lot of buzz for her role in Martha Marcy May Marlene (a film we're reviewing later this week that just got picked up by Fox Searchlight). It looks like her work has paid off as THR says Olsen has landed a role in director Rodrigo Cortés' (Buried) film Red Lights. And this time she's working with quite a cast that already includes Robert De Niro, Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy.

Sundance 2011: Video Review of Ed Helms Comedy 'Cedar Rapids'
That was super awesome! The last world premiere we attended last night at Sundance 2011 was for Fox Searchlight's newest comedy Cedar Rapids, directed by Miguel Arteta, and starring Ed Helms as a small town insurance agent who takes the first trip of his life to the "big city" of Cedar Rapids. It also stars John C. Reilly, Anne Heche, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Alia Shawkat. It's a hilarious film wrapped around a rather sweet story about friendship and morality, but I didn't love it that much. After the screening Peter of SlashFilm, FS.net's Ethan and I recorded a quick video blog talking about our thoughts on the film. Fire that up below!

Sundance 2011: Kevin Smith's 'Red State' is Powerful But Not Perfect
When the much hyped premiere for Red State was finally upon us, so were protesters who are adamantly against homosexuality in the name of their conservative religion which apparently comes straight from the word of God. But then Kevin Smith himself arrived, with Jason Mewes in tow, with a sign that said "God Hates Mewes" and his friends brought other signs like "D*ck tastes yummy!" The film became an event even if Smith didn't follow through with an actual auction. Thankfully, Red State delivered something an auction could not: the triumphant return of an independent filmmaker after his debut at Sundance 17 years ago.

Kevin Smith Reveals Self-Distribution & Road Show for 'Red State'
Last night was the world premiere of director Kevin Smith's new horror film Red State, which we thought was very good (Ethan's review) but it has sparked an endless amount of debate amongst critics and industry folk alike. It was an exciting evening inside Eccles Theater in Park City, as Smith had teased that he might auction off rights to the film during the Q&A afterward. But that didn't happen. Instead, he auctioned it off to himself for $20 and announced a massive plan to self-distribute the film with SModcast Pictures, part of his podcast empire, complete with a road show called the Red State U.S.A. Tour kicking off in spring.

Final Winners of 2010 Internet Movie Poster Awards (IMPAwards)!
One of our favorites places on the web is IMPAwards.com, officially known as the Internet Movie Poster Awards website, the "IMDb of movie posters" (my own slogan for them) which collects and archives every official movie poster for every film released... ever. However, as it says right in the site's name, they're also known for their annual awards, where they choose the Best (and Worst) Movie Posters for each year. 2010's winners have been revealed and as always, they've got some fantastic picks and some potentially odd ones as well. We've highlighted the five top categories below, but you can see all the nominees/winners on their site.

Sundance Sales: 'Homework', 'Like Crazy', 'My Idiot Brother', More
We're only four days into the 2011 Sundance Film Festival which means a good number of movies have premiered and sales are finally occurring. Part of the Sundance spectacle is seeing which films get picked up and by which studios, and also championing the films that we love. Though early sales got off to a slow start, the dam burst over the weekend and a few major sales were made for at least three high profile and highly regarded films: Gavin Wiesen's Homework was bought by Fox Searchlight, Drake Doremus' Like Crazy was bought by Paramount, and Jesse Peretz's My Idiot Brother was bought by The Weinstein Company.

Chris Hemsworth Confirms Marvel's 'The Avengers' Will Be Massive
As we already know, it's still too early to spend too much time talking about Marvel's The Avengers movie arriving in 2012, especially with Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger out this summer. But that's not going to stop us from featuring a very hype-heavy quote from the God of Thunder himself, actor Chris Hemsworth, who spoke to MTV (via SuperHeroHype) while at Sundance about The Avengers. We've heard a lot of early Avengers talk like this before, but Hemsworth says it will be "massive" and also hints at lots of friction and fighting between the Avengers team, including a potential dust-up with The Hulk. Read on!

Sundance 2011: Paul Rudd is a Lovable Dimwit in 'My Idiot Brother'
You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family. This seems to be an unfortunate truth in for a small family in My Idiot Brother who has to deal with a naive, and simple-minded brother named Ned (Paul Rudd). Fresh out of prison for selling marijuana to a uniformed police office, Ned heads back home to spend some time with his mother and and his three sisters Liz (Emily Mortimer), Miranda (Elizabeth Banks), and Nat (Zooey Deschanel). Though the three sisters are happy to see Ned and willing to help him any way they can, little do they know that Ned is about to unwittingly (and dimwittedly) turn their lives

Big Rumor: Keanu Says Two More 'Matrix' Movies Are in the Works?
We all knew it was coming. Ever since Matrix Revolutions finished up the Wachowski's epic sci-fi trilogy in 2003, many have suspected that we would one day see Neo return in another Matrix (or a new trilogy) and according to one report, that might be the case, but not necessarily soon. However, we don't fully believe all this, and it's possible that it could be a big rumor created out of nothing, but you never know. Ain't It Cool News posted a report from a Q&A in London after Henry's Crime where Matrix star Keanu Reeves spoke about a lot of upcoming projects, including the Wachowski's Hood and, supposedly, two more Matrix films.

Most of Kevin Smith's 'Red State' Cast Returning for 'Hit Somebody'
We're still at the Sundance Film Festival, and tonight both Alex Billington and myself will be attending the premiere and supposed auction of the much buzzed about film Red State. While speculation has been that the film was already picked up, director Kevin Smith has assured naysayers via Twitter that there might still be a live auction (not the case) to sell the rights to the film right after the premiere. But along with all his Red State rambling, Smith just revealed a majority of the cast from his flick will also be returning for Hit Somebody. Can Smith really snag talents like Melissa Leo and John Goodman again? More below!

PGA Awards Winners Announced, But Who Took Home Top Prize?
Earlier this month the nominations were announced for 21st annual Producer Guild of America Awards honoring outstanding producers for their achievement in feature films and television. Obviously we won't run through the winners for TV series awards (see those at the PGA website) but we have the winners for the three motion picture categories for feature films, animation and documentaries. Remember, since the nominations were a good indicator of who might get an Oscar nomination (they'll be announced on January 25th) these could also be our Oscar winners in February. See the winners below!
