Phillip Noyce May Be Adapting the Navy SEALs Thriller 'Firing Point'

Phillip Noyce

Last year he delivered  a decent, though completely unbelievably action thriller with Angelina Jolie in Salt. Now it looks like director Phillip Noyce has found his next project in the form of a Black Hawk Down style adaptation. Moviehole reports they've heard the director is in talks to helm an adaptation of Don Keith and George Wallace's unpublished novel Firing Point. Going by the title Hunter Killer, the story follows an American sub commander and a Navy SEAL team that must rescue the Russian president and defeat a renegade admiral who’s attempting a coup. The project has been actually in the works since 2008.

Indie Trailer Sunday: Jordan Scott's Drama 'Cracks' with Eva Green

Cracks Trailer

We haven't done one of these in a while, but here we go again. IFC Films debuted an official trailer on Apple for Jordan Scott's Cracks, an indie drama that premiered in '09 (remember this poster?) with Eva Green. Set at an all-girls boarding school in 1934, Cracks sees Eva Green playing Miss G, an enigmatic-yet-alluring teacher who inspires fanatical loyalty within the small clique of girls in her diving team. However, when the arrival of a Spanish girl (played by María Valverde) as the new boarder throws their cosy world into flux, all manner of nastiness ensues. This also stars Juno Temple, Imogen Poots, Maria Valverde and Sinead Cusack.

Watch: FX Artist Grzegorz Jonkajtys' Dystopian Short 'The 3rd Letter'

The 3rd Letter Short Film

Wow. I'm always amazed to find stuff like this out there, beautiful work that's just fascinating to watch. Why isn't this guy directing features yet? There's a new short you've got to check out called The 3rd Letter from Polish visual FX artist Grzegorz 'Greg' Jonkajtys. He posted the entire 15-minute short online via Vimeo, so you can watch it below. "A distinctive dystopian vision where humans utterly depend on bio-mechanical alteration to withstand the deteriorating climate." It has a bit of a 12 Monkeys+Andrew Niccol+Cronenberg kind of vibe to it, hard to describe, but it looks great and was quite entertaining. Highly suggested viewing!

First Creepy Teaser Trailer for Darren Bousman's Thriller '11-11-11'

11-11-11 Teaser

Mark the date. Although they're still filming this in Spain right now, the first teaser trailer for Darren Lynn Bousman's new horror-thriller 11-11-11 has hit the web thanks to Darren's own blog via STYD and it's pretty damn good. 11-11-11 is said to have "more scares than all of Bousman's first films combined" involving the 11:11 phenomenon, whereby on the 11th month of 2011 at the 11th hour and 11th minute, the 11th door will open and supernatural entities will enter Earth. I'm a big Bousman fan, so of course I think this looks great, very unsettling. The cast includes: Timothy Gibbs, Michael Landes and Wendy Glenn. Watch below!

Nicole Kidman & Colin Firth Also Joining the Cast of Drama 'Stoker'

Colin Firth & Nicole Kidman

Some very big additional casting for Korean director Park Chan-wook's English-language debut Stoker, the family mystery-drama about a moody teenager whose mysterious uncle (Firth) comes back into her family's lives after the death of her father. Back in January we learned that Chan-wook had cast young Jane Eyre & Alice in Wonderland actress Mia Wasikowska in Stoker's lead role as the teen, but now 24 Frames is also reporting that Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman are joining the cast, too. They go on to say that despite all the Oscar buzz (and a win, I'm sure) Firth is indeed "negotiating" to star in the Fox Searchlight production.

David Slade Set to Helm 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter' for Phoenix

David Slade

Big update on the project called The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Heat Vision reports from Berlin that David Slade, director of Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night and yes, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is now set to direct the Phoenix Pictures production. The project was originally set to sail with Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th, Conan) then moved to Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters), who started casting as Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley booked roles, then Stefan left so now Slade is taking over. The lead role still isn't cast, but they're currently in talks with actors, as they want to get it going soon but financing isn't 100% in place yet.

First Full Trailer for Paul Johansson's 'Atlas Shrugged' Adaptation

Atlas Shrugged Trailer

"Who is John Galt?" Ah, so that's what this book was about! Atlas Productions has released the trailer on YouTube (via SlashFilm) for Paul Johansson's adaptation of Atlas Shrugged, that epic Ayn Rand novel that everyone should be familiar with. The cast includes relative newcomer Taylor Schilling ("Mercy") as railroad exec Dagny Taggart, as well as Edi Gathegi, Matthew Marsden, Michael O'Keefe, Michael Lerner, Jon Polito, Graham Beckel and Patrick Fischler. To be honest, this looks a bit more like a TV movie and the acting looks kind of mediocre, but at least they're trying. You never know, it could be great. Watch below!

Charlize Theron Set for 'Prometheus', 'Alien' Connection is 'Definite'

Charlize Theron

A couple of news items related to Ridley Scott's Prometheus to cover today. First up, THR reports that Charlize Theron is now confirmed for a role in the sci-fi movie, putting her opposite Noomi Rapace, star of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and Michael Fassbender. That leaves two other lead roles still left to be cast. In addition, despite Scott himself saying that "the keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative", Fassbender spoke with MTV about the project, and told them that "there's a definite connecting vein" to Alien. Even more quotes below!

Noam Murro Officially Directing Bruce Willis in 'Die Hard 5' for Fox

John McClane / Noam Murro

Earlier today a story hit the web claiming that Bruce Willis himself was interviewing directors for the top position on Die Hard 5, which is actually coming together, believe it or not. However, Deadline now says that Noam Murro, an Israeli director who's debut was the indie comedy Smart People, has landed the job to direct. Murro will direct from a script by Skip Woods (Wolverine, A-Team), even though apparently Fox wasn't happy with some recent drafts. Murro won over the Fox execs with his recent campaign for the Halo video game - you can watch his live-action short "Deliver Hope" for Halo: Reach. John McClane is back!

John Lasseter Gets His Own Character in 'Cars 2' - John Lassetire!

John Lasseter

For the last month or so, Disney has been slowly unveiling new characters from Pixar's Cars 2 one car at a time. Yes, despite seeing a teaser trailer back in November, there are still many more characters we have yet to meet, including this one - "John Lassetire." Yes, it's a Cars car for Pixar's original mastermind - John Lasseter. Although he's apparently co-directing the movie, ABC News was the first to reveal the photo and his cameo, because even he didn't know about it. "It was news to me... I was a little surprised. It was just one line, but now I have a Cars character. I'm very excited about that. He's a good ol' American pick-up truck."

Chris Nolan Wants to Direct a Howard Hughes Biopic After 'TDKR'?

Christopher Nolan / Howard Hughes

More unexpected news today. Vulture, who often has trustworthy scoops, is reporting that Christopher Nolan is already talking about lining up a project following The Dark Knight Rises. As if anyone wants to know (kidding), Nolan is apparently looking at directing another Howard Hughes biopic, following The Aviator of '04. However, this will focus more "on the freakier decades of Hughes remarkably secretive and OCD-addled life" than the earlier piece we saw. This is the first we've heard about it so take it as a rumor for now, but I'll be damned if it isn't an intriguing concept. Nolan doing Hughes? Brilliance in the making.
