Whoa! James Franco May Be Cast in Albert Hughes' 'Akira', Too?!

James Franco / Akira

Wait what?! Gossip site JustJared, which does have a good reputation for being on Hollywood's good side, is reporting that James Franco has been cast in the lead role of Kaneda. We know that Albert Hughes, one half of the Hughes Brothers (of Dead Presidents, From Hell, The Book of Eli) is directing the big screen adaptation for Warner Bros of the beloved manga, which already had an amazing anime in 1988. Apparently Franco really is taking just about every single role he's offered, not only hosting the Oscars while also getting nominated, but landing a role in The Night Stalker and also Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great and Powerful, too.

AMC & Regal Partnering on New Acquisition/Distribution Company

AMC & Regal

This is major news that we really didn't see coming. The LA Times is reporting on a joint venture between Regal Entertainment Group and AMC Entertainment, two of the leading movie theater chains in the US. Regal and AMC are launching a new company to acquire and release independent movies. They haven't acquired any yet, but they have hired a CEO: Tom Ortenberg, a former senior exec for the Weinstein Co. and Lionsgate, who has been working as a consultant recently. This is an very intriguing concept if it works, since it would give these theaters a big distribution advantage separate from the Hollywood studio system.

Watch: Another TV Trailer + Newsreel Video for 'Battle: Los Angeles'

Battle: Los Angeles Video

For a time before this movie existed, if you searched for Battle: Los Angeles the top result was the Battle of Los Angeles, a real life event that took place back in Los Angeles in 1942 where the military shot artillery at "something" in the sky one night. Jump ahead to 2011 and now we've got Battle: Los Angeles - hmmm, a mysterious connection? On top of that badass Super Bowl spot for this sci-fi action movie, Sony has debuted an exciting new 63-second TV trailer that's pretty damn cool. Additionally, they released a "newswrap" video about the Battle of Los Angeles event and how it might all be connected. Check out both new videos below!

Watch: Cool 'Take Me Home Tonight' Music Video Full of 80's Films

Dan Fogler and Toper Grace

For whatever reason, I just recently saw the first trailer for the 80's romp that is Take Me Home Tonight. Complete with the titular song by Eddie Money and a fantastic comedic cast featuring Topher Grace, Dan Fogler, Anna Faris and the always stunning Teresa Palmer, the trailer immediately sold me on this wild looking 80's party flick. Now the band Atomic Tom has made things interesting with a cover of The Human League's hit Don't You Want Me and a music video featuring the stars of of the film re-enacting great movies from the 80's like Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and more. Check it!

Lincoln Gets a Computer - 'The Conspirator' Twitter Feed Launches

The Conspirator Lincoln Twitter

This might be fun. How do you market a movie set in the 1800's in the digital age? Mix the two together... I guess! Roadside Attractions has launched a new twitter feed for Robert Redford's The Conspirator, which we just saw a trailer for recently. However there's a twist! The twitter is called @1865Lincoln and will "share a dynamic collection of Lincoln's own words as well as an intriguing selection of little-known facts about the conspiracy that led to his assassination." So it's really Lincoln tweeting with some facts thrown in, since this is about Mary Surratt, the lone female charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination trial of Lincoln.

Nicholas Hoult Set to Lead Bryan Singer's Epic 'Jack the Giant Killer'

Nicholas Hoult

A few glimpses of the actor can be seen in the trailer for X-Men: First Class where he plays a young Hank McCoy (aka Beast), but now British actor Nicholas Hoult has landed another high profile role in another Bryan Singer project. Deadline reports Hoult has landed the titular role of Jack the Giant Killer in the joint production from New Line Cinema, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. He joins recently cast actors Stanley Tucci and Bill Nighy in the action epic. It's hard to believe that the awkward young kid who shared the screen with Hugh Grant in About a Boy has grown up to be a member of the X-Men and a notorious

Bruce Willis to 'Lay the Favorite, Take the Dog' with Stephen Frears

Bruce Willis / Lay the Favorite

Back in November of 2009, we learned that director Stephen Frears and writer D.V. DeVincentis (the team that brought us High Fidelity) were behind yet another adaptation. The talented duo would be bringing an adaptation of Beth Raymer's upcoming gambling memoir to the big screen with Lay the Favorite, Take the Dog. While we were at Sundance last month, we missed reporting that Rebecca Hall (The Town) had joined the project and now Vulture reports Bruce Willis will co-star with the lovely British actress in the story of a woman who teams up with math geeks to clean house in Vegas by working the sportsbook system.

It's Official: Tom Cruise will Belt 80's Tunes in 'Rock of Ages' Musical

Rock of Ages / Tom Cruise

After circling the role for months now, THR finally has word that Tom Cruise in finalizing his deal to star in Adam Shankman's adaptation of Rock of Ages, the Broadway musical full of 80's rock tunes. Though I wouldn't expect a rehashing of his classic lip syncing performance of Old Time Rock and Roll from Risky Business, Cruise will get to rock out with the Bon Jovi ballad Wanted: Dead or Alive. Though question still remains how well the actor can carry a tune, this is exactly the role that I love seeing Cruise take on. After seeing him with beefy arms and a balding head as Les Grossman, I can't wait to see him with 80's rock hair.

P.T. Anderson May Have Funding for 'Inherent Vice' & 'The Master'

Paul Thomas Anderson

The last time we heard about the Scientology centric drama The Master from Paul Thomas Anderson, the project had unfortunately been delayed indefinitely. Not only did Universal pass on the script in March, but despite a cast that included Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jeremy Renner, Anderson just kept hitting a wall with the story and it became dead in the water. Then came another project from the director in the form of an adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's new book Inherent Vice which may or may not star Robert Downey Jr. Well, the good news is both of these projects may now have the funding to move forward more easily.

First Look Redux: Tarsem Singh's Epic 'Immortals' with Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill in Immortals

Yes, we've already seen most of these badass photos before, as last May we posted a big first look reveal, but Entertainment Weekly has officially re-released a series of first look photos for Tarsem Singh's Immortals and they're much cleaner, crisper and way more colorful, everything we'd expect from a Tarsem production. We have that shot of Superman Henry Cavill (above) as Theseus, plus Mickey Rourke as King Hyperion, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon (although he doesn't look like it), and Freida Pinto as Phaedra. I'm really liking the visuals, I just hope it's more than another Clash of the Titans redo. Maybe we'll finally see a trailer soon?

Casting Tidbits: Bradley Cooper, Amanda Seyfried & Michael Caine

Cooper / Seyfried / Caine

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of Casting Tidbits; Tidbits I have acquired over a very long career. Tidbits that make me a nightmare for people like you. First up, Variety reports Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Irons will star in The Words. The film will mark the directorial debut of Tron Legacy writers Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal (who also wrote the script) and follows a writer (Cooper) who, at the peak of his literary success, discovers the price he must pay for stealing another man's work.

First Look: Official Photo of 'The Hobbit' Main Cast, No Costumes

The Hobbit Cast

The calm before the storm, as they say. What you see below is the first photo of most of the cast from Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, gathered together in New Zealand for a press conference before shooting. Basically, the entire cast before they start up their year-long rigorous shoot (I want to see them after, too). The photo comes from Stuff.co.nz (via ComingSoon) as a press conference, sans Jackson, was held in New Zealand for The Hobbit, introducing Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and his crew of dwarves. A few key returning actors aren't in this (and no one is in a costume anyway), like Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen or Cate Blanchett
