Kevin Smith Wants Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in 'Hit Somebody'

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

Yesterday was the very first time writer/director Kevin Smith sat down with a major media outlet for an extensive interview following his much buzzed about appearance with Red State at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. While there was certainly some talk about the premiere, his forthcoming Red State roadshow and the reaction to his return to indie distribution, some of the interesting details from the one-hour interview at MTV resulted in some news on Hit Somebody, his hockey flick based on the Warren Zevon song of the same name. Smith revealed he wants to bring his old friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck into the mix.

The Coen Brothers Now Developing a 'Full-On Horror Movie' Next?

Coen Brothers

Though the Golden Globes may have snubbed Joel and Ethan Coen for their spectacular western True Grit, thankfully the Academy Awards came through with plenty of love for the film. Now it sounds like the Coen Brothers are already thinking about their next project. The writing/directing duo wrote the remake of Gambit, but clearly they're not directing. Well, Empire asked the Coens if they would ever consider directing a straight-up horror film for their next project and Ethan said, "Funny you should ask, yes, we're working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie." Oh, really?

Mystifying Viral Photos Found Hidden in Multiple 'Super 8' Trailers

Super 8 Date

And so phase two of the viral begins... Though we know a little bit about what J.J. Abrams' Super 8 is, we really don't know much about it yet, what really takes place, what the monster/alien is, which makes it all the more mysterious as we continue towards the summer. A few people have been rewatching that gorgeous 30-sec Super Bowl spot for this upcoming sci-fi thriller and have noticed a few different/new viral images hidden in the final flash when then cameras zooms out of the Super 8 lens at the end of the trailer. Bloody-Disgusting first picked up on it and Super 8 News found even more images, too. But what does it all mean?

Brad Anderson Reteaming with Christian Bale for 'Concrete Island'

Brad Anderson / Christian Bale The Machinist

Some news for fans of The Machinist. Director Brad Anderson is out talking with press this week for the upcoming theatrical release of his creepy thriller Vanishing on 7th Street (watch our review from Toronto). One other project he talked to press about is called Concrete Island, an adaptation based on J.G. Ballard's novel, that apparently The Machinist and The Crazies writer Scott Kosar is adapting. Not only is he working on that, teaming him up with Kosar again, but apparently none other than actor Christian Bale is attached as well, as confirmed by both ShockTillYouDrop and a site called We Got This Covered. More quotes below!

Rosamund Pike Joins the 'Wrath of the Titans' Cast as Andromeda

Rosamund Pike

Another pretty face for Jonathan Liebesman's Clash of the Titans sequel, tentatively titled Wrath of the Titans. Heat Vision reports that actress Rosamund Pike is in negotiations for the role of Andromeda in the Clash of the Titans sequel. She will be replacing Alexa Davalos, who played the same Andromeda role in Louis Leterrier's Titans. Other returning actors include Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Ralph Fiennes, along with newcomers Toby Kebbell as Agenor and Édgar Ramírez as Ares. Shooting in 3D begins next month in the UK. Though we still don't know too much about the plot for this.

Chris Ware's Trippy/Beautiful Poster for Thai Film 'Uncle Boonmee'

Uncle Boonmee Palme d'Or

I'm mesmerized. I don't know what else to say. Although I walked out of last year's Palme d'Or winner - Thai film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul - about half way through, I can still recognize its artistic quality. It's a film full of lots of trippy imagery and contains wacky things like Ghost Monkeys (see above) and talking fish. If you've been dying to see this, it's hitting a few small theaters in NYC this March. Vulture premiered the official poster for Uncle Boonmee designed by cartoonist Chris Ware and it's honestly quite beautiful/brilliant. "[This] had to be somewhat punchy and

Watch: Robb Pratt's Hand-Drawn Animated Short 'Superman Classic'

Superman Classic

We know that we're only a few years away from seeing Zack Snyder's Superman: Man of Steel in all of its glory (we hope), but in the meantime, let's step back in time to check out Superman Classic. Animator Robb Pratt (Home on the Range, "The Replacements") really loves Superman and decided to direct his own self-animated short called Superman Classic. The footage is also set to music from the old Superman Saturday matinee serials and he even got John Newton, who played Superboy in the 1980s TV series, to voice Clark Kent. It's a quick watch and so fun to see, so check out Pratt's animated Superman short below.

Director Craig Gillespie Boarding 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies'

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies / Gillespie

He's already directed several episodes of Showtime's "United States of Tara" along with the spectacular indie Lars and the Real Girl, but it's the recent work of director Craig Gillespie on the remake of 1985 tongue-in-cheek horror flick Fright Night that has him lined up for another high profile horror title. Vulture reports Gillespie is currently in talks to helm the adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's period romance remix Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which takes Jane Austen's classic novel and throws some walking dead into the mix. Though we haven't yet seen a single frame of footage from Fright Night yet, it feels like a great fit.

Daryl Hannah & Tom Sizemore Cast in Palahniuk's 'Snuff' Adaptation

Daryl Hannah & Tom Sizemore / Chuck Palahniuk's Snuff

After first seeing the indie adaptation of Choke with Sam Rockwell, we got on a Chuck Palahniuk frenzy a few years back, covering stories on various adaptations like Survivor or Lullaby, that still haven't taken off. However, it looks like another Palahniuk film is finally coming together, as a report on the author's website (via AICN) says the director of the adaptation, French filmmaker Fabien Martorell, provided them with details on casting. Daryl Hannah has been cast as Cassie Wright, the aging porn queen intent on banging 600 men in one day, and will be joining Tom Sizemore and Thora Birch (Ghost World, Terror Train).

Halle Berry is Moving on to 'The Student' with Paul Verhoeven Next?

Halle Berry

I've been secretly hoping that we would one day see Paul Verhoeven return to his 80's roots and lash out with a violent action-sci-fi movie again, but that seems less and less likely every day. Last year we reported that Verhoeven was working on a "baby mama thriller" called Surrogate that Halle Berry was attached to. Well, Badass Digest says that apparently Surrogate is now dead, or back on the shelf, and Berry/Verhoeven are instead teaming up for a film titled The Student. Staying in his wheelhouse, The Student is a "sexual thriller about a 19 year old kid who takes up a summer internship... and then takes up with his boss' wife."
