Kevin Costner is Taking a Key Role in 'Superman: The Man of Steel'?
Yes, we already have our Superman with British actor Henry Cavill putting on the tights and cape, and it sounds like we're getting close to have a female join the cast as well. Now another actor may apparently be joining Zack Snyder's Superman: The Man of Steel, and it's not a name you'd expect to be mentioned in such a high profile project. Deadline reports Kevin Costner is being circled for a key role in this new take on the iconic superhero. Though no details on his role are yet available, I'd be willing to bet that Costner would play Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White. However, it would be far more interesting if he was taking on a villainous role.

FX Legend Douglas Trumbull Talks About Working on 'Tree of Life'
Most die-hard cinephiles are already anxious to see Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, and thankfully we only have three months to go. We haven't heard much in regards to the film since the awe-inspiring first trailer debuted in December, but there's an intriguing story worth pointing out today for many reasons. The Australian (via The Film Stage) recently published an article on special effects veteran Douglas Trumbull, who worked on Kubrick's 2001, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind and Blade Runner. Apparently Trumbull, who hasn't worked on anything in film in the last three decades, came back to do "work" on The Tree of Life.

Worth Watching: Official Trailer for Juliette Binoche's 'Certified Copy'
IFC Films recently debuted an official US trailer on Apple for Abbas Kiarostami's new film Certified Copy, starring the lovely Oscar winning French actress Juliette Binoche, as well as William Shimell as James Miller. This romantic drama premiered in Cannes last year to rave reviews, although I didn't personally see it while I was there. It's a very charming introduction to the film, so I highly suggested watching the trailer. The film has a solid B+ on criticWire, with stellar reviews like this from Guy Lodge calling it a "gorgeous, funny, subtly probing film [that] promises further revelations and interpretations on a repeat viewing."

Must Watch: Awesome New Daytona 500 TV Spot for Pixar's 'Cars 2'!
It looks like Transformers: Dark of the Moon wasn't the only movie getting some exposure at the Daytona 500 yesterday. But of course - Pixar's Cars 2, one of the most deserving films to be at that race, also got a brand new 60-second TV spot packed full of new footage and more. Though we've already seen a full teaser trailer for this, I think I'm starting to get a bitter gist of the story and it basically seems like a Bond movie mixed with an international car race, which actually seems pretty awesome. It's really just a damn good TV spot. Like The Pixar Blog says, "How could anybody not look forward to seeing Cars 2 after watching this?"

Baz Luhrmann Shooting His Adaptation of 'The Great Gatsby' in 3D
Last month we heard both directors Michael Mann and Baz Luhrmann might be shooting projects in 3D sometime soon. Though Mann wasn't specific about which of his potential projects we might end up seeing in the format, Luhrmann has apparently already been workshopping his adaptation of The Great Gatsby, the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, with 3D in mind. Now the news is official as ABC News from Australia reports that Luhrmann is slated to shoot the adaptation in 3D later this year at Sydney's Fox Studios. In fact, with Mad Max: Fury Road delayed, the project will be the first live-action 3D film shot in New South Wales.

Second Great 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' Daytona 500 TV Spot
It's a bit odd to see them marketing this summer blockbuster with only TV spots so far that contain the first bits of footage anyone has seen. When will we ever see a trailer? On top of that first Super Bowl TV spot for Michael Bay's Transformers: Dark of the Moon, another slightly tweaked version of that same TV spot debuted today (via SlashFilm) during the Daytona 500 broadcast. There's only a small hint of new footage, but considering this is all we've got so far, I"m more than happy to share it with you guys. Especially because the more I see from this sequel, the better it starts to look. Watch the latest Transformers 3 TV spot below!

Watch: First Wild Trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Indie 'Hesher'
We didn't expect to hear anything about this for a while, but it looks like this is hitting theaters in April, so here's a (likely unofficial) trailer from YouTube (via The Playlist) to introduce you to it. Hesher is the first feature from Spencer Susser, director of that zombie short I Love Sarah Jane, and it has an impressive cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman, Rainn Wilson and Devin Brochu, also from I Love Sarah Jane. But... it's not that good. I saw it at Sundance and didn't care for it at all, in fact, it's a film that I suggest staying away from, despite how badass/crazy it may look here. Check it out, but that's my warning.

Paramount Reschedules Scorsese's 'Hugo Cabret' 3D to Thanksgiving
Briefly: Now this is an odd story. Deadline is reporting that although Sony Pictures used to be 100% set to release Martin Scorsese's newest film Hugo Cabret in 3D (based on Brian Selznick's bestselling novel), even setting a date in early December, Paramount is going to be taking over distribution and moving it up to Thanksgiving instead. So now Hugo Cabret, more of a family film starring Chloe Moretz, Asa Butterfield, Jude Law, Emily Mortimer and Ben Kingsley, is now set to open 17 days earlier on Wednesday, November 23rd. The decision mostly came from production company GK Films, who wanted to move the release up.

The Weekly Assignment: In Search of a President For the Big Screen
Next assignment! We've all seen them. Hollywood's "Presidential Pics" which portray the leader of the free world as only the film industry truly can. Sometimes he's a heroic leader, like Harrison Ford in Air Force One, or maybe he is braving an alien invasion like Bill Pullman did in Independence Day. The President might not be the President at all, rather a comedic impersonator as with Kevin Kline's Dave, or he may be a wig-wearing lawyer of the Revolution like Paul Giammati in the HBO mini-series John Adams (which, by the way, is absolutely excellent and directed by Oscar-nominated Tom Hooper of The King's Speech, too).

Hollywood Now Wants to Make a 'Dead Island' Zombie Movie, Too
Well that didn't take long. Yesterday morning we featured a highly-buzzed-about trailer for the upcoming video game Dead Island, as it's a heartbreaking and beautiful teaser trailer for an otherwise savage and bloody-looking video game. As you probably expected, Hollywood got wind and the rights to a movie have already been snatched up. The Wrap and Deadline report that Hollywood is now buzzing about making a movie based on the game. Producer Sean Daniel and Union Entertainment already bought the rights last year and now given the viral success of that trailer, they're potentially sitting on a big Hollywood goldmine.

Must Watch: Freaky Official Trailer for Sci-Fi Horror Film 'Apollo 18'
There's a reason we've never gone back to the moon... They've been counting down the debut of this trailer like the launch of a rocketship, which is almost too perfect for this. The Weinstein Company has debuted the official trailer on Apple for their found footage sci-fi film Apollo 18, starring some people we've never seen, directed by a guy we've never heard of. This project was quietly announced late last year. It looks creepy as hell for a vintage found-footage sci-fi horror movie. I'm admittedly freaked out by aliens and this is crazy, I am shaking. I want to see this, but I'm nervous about how insanely scary it might be to watch. Be careful!

Watch: Amusing Red Band Trailer for Farrelly Brothers' 'Hall Pass'
"This is why we need to go to a gay bar." New Line has debuted one more brand new red band trailer via IGN for their upcoming comedy Hall Pass, directed by the comedy duo of the Farrelly Brothers, starring Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer, Christina Applegate. It's another infidelity comedy (we've seen a lot of those this year) and I don't think anyone really cares about it. Despite being occasionally amusing in spots, this trailer and the entire movie just look dull and very unfunny. I guess that's the Farrelly Brothers for ya. And it is still awesome to see Richard Jenkins as a pimp in this, but that's it. Have fun!
