Tom Hanks to Play Captain Richard Phillips in Somali Pirates Movie
They delivered a film that was both relevant and riveting with The Social Network in 2010 (my favorite film of the year), and now producers Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Kevin Spacey are taking another real-life story straight from newspaper headlines to the big screen. Deadline reports the producing team will adapt the story of Captain Richard Phillips, the leader of the cargo ship Maersk Alabama who gave himself up as a hostage to Somali pirates in order to keep his crew safe from the ruthless men. In addition, they apparently have Tom Hanks attached to play the ship's captain. Look out Jack Sparrow!

Must Watch: 'Star Wars' as Recreated by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost
Fortunately the overlord of Skywalker Ranch hasn't decided to remake his classic sci-fi opera Star Wars (though the 3D theatrical re-release of the entire saga begins next February), but I wouldn't put anything past George Lucas. However, a couple of our favorite Brits have made their own attempt at recreating the first installment in the classic film series (no, not The Phantom Menace). Simon Pegg & Nick Frost take the roles of droid buddies C-3PO & R2-D2 as they wander through the deserts of Tatooine. Unfortunately, only one scene ended up getting completed, and you'll see why after you watch this hilarious segment below.

Shawn Levy's 'Real Steel' Kicks Off World Robot Boxing League Viral
Its been rather quiet on the Real Steel front since the teaser trailer for the Shawn Levy-directed, Hugh Jackman-starring action movie about giant rock 'em sock 'em-like boxing robots debuted in December. But that's about to change, as it looks like Disney is kicking off some viral marketing. I've been receiving emails from people who picked up printed remote control units handed out at the PAX East gaming convention in Boston. The controllers link to the site WRB.com, home of the World Robot Boxing League, essentially the WWE of Real Steel. The site has since been updated and is asking for codes to be input on a controller.

Robert Redford Will Take a Bit of Sundance Film Festival to London
Here in the United States we have the pleasure of being simultaneously exhausted and enamored with the Sundance Film Festival and all the promising films and talent it has to offer every January. Along with the annual coverage, this year marked my first experience in Park City, Utah, and I was completely blown away by my time spent in the mountains with some of cinema's finest talents. Well, now our friends across the pond will get a taste as Robert Redford announced Sundance London, a four-day multi-disciplinary arts festival that will include film screenings, live music performances, discussions, panels and more.

New 'Super 8' Editing Room Viral Site Discovered in the New Trailer
Oooh now this is starting to get interesting. After debuting the first full trailer for J.J. Abrams' mysterious but incredible-looking new sci-fi Super 8 on Friday morning last week, Paramount finally released the high def version on Apple, and of course there's hidden clues found in the frames. In one of the final frames that flashes through the lens, there's a shot with a clearly written out web address: s8editingroom.com. That's the new viral site that basically launches an "editing room" containing a couple of "archival clips", not much. If you flick on the projector, it mostly says "Clip Missing", so there's still a lot we need to find/wait for this.

Check This Out: Funky Official Poster for 'Dylan Dog: Dead of Night'
Okay okay I know it's pretty much a crime to even mention Brandon Routh's Dylan Dog: Dead of Night again, but I actually really like this new poster for it, for a couple of reasons. Bloody-Disgusting just posted the "official" poster for Dylan Dog and it has a very classic, comic book kind of cheesy, but intriguing, look to it. All the stuff going on in the background, like the guy being grabbed and pulled down by some demons coming from a glowing green sewer (or hell, whatever works), and random hands coming from everywhere. If the trailer didn't look so unbelievably awful, I might actually want to see this. Check out the poster below.

Ethan Revisits 'Red State' During Kevin Smith's Cross Country Tour
Back in January we were fortunate enough to catch the world premiere of Kevin Smith's first foray into horror (though the director has jokingly called Jersey Girl a worthy entry in the genre, too) with the film Red State. While many online writers seemed to be more concerned with a lack of an auction for the distribution rights to the film rather than the film itself, I gave the film a mostly positive review siting only pacing issues with some scenes/sequences going on for far too long. Thankfully, Smith later said he would edit the film a bit before going on a cross country tour, and I recently got a chance to check out his new cut. How did it turn out?

Watch: New 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' Featurette
"You know that feeling you get... sometimes in high places, a sudden urge to jump? I don't have it." Disney recently released this new featurette for their upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides movie, which we've seen a lot from recently, as we're already into the last few months before release (if you can believe it). We've already seen an official trailer, some TV spots, even an impressive official poster just yesterday, but this video contains even more footage as well as some interview segments with cast and crew, like Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz. This looks like so much fun, can't wait for the summer to kick off!

SXSW Review: James Wan's New Horror 'Insidious' is Scary as Hell
There's the old Alfred Hitchcock adage about building suspense by showing the audience a bomb rather than having a bomb blast from out of nowhere. But there's the more recent thought from horror master John Carpenter who believes jump scares can work if implemented correctly. Effectively placed and creepily executed, they can build the same level of tension that comes from showing the audience the bomb. This is something James Wan & Leigh Whannell exercise in their new ghost movie Insidious, the belief that blasting at the audience rather than slow burning them can have a lasting effect that lingers long after the credits roll. It works.

SXSW Review: 'The Innkeepers' Swerves To Highly Effective Results
Ti West likes to knock the pot roast off the table. He slowly simmers, begins turning up the temperature on the pot, and then flips the entire table on its side spilling everything on the floor. That's not a figurative way of saying The Innkeepers derails. Far from it. It's a highly effective ghost story that may not be quite what you expect going in. Hell, it's not quite what you expect after the halfway point. But the confidence that West exudes and the total package he presents with the film may be the jarring jolt the horror industry has been looking for. Many of us have known this about West. It's time the rest of the horror world to take notice.
Disney Officially Cans Robert Zemeckis' 'Yellow Submarine' Remake
Looks like it's finally the end of an era for Robert Zemeckis. THR reports that after a disastrous opening weekend for ImageMovers' latest CGI feature, Mars Needs Moms (made $7M on a $150M budget), Disney is canceling The Beatles' Yellow Submarine remake that Zemeckis was directing for 2012. The CGI movie had a cast including David Tennant and Cary Elwes as various members of the psychedelic band, and they'd even secured rights to use 16 of the Beatles' songs. ImageMovers was already shut down by Disney last year and now this is the final nail in the coffin, though there's a chance the movie could end up at another studio.

TV's Logan Marshall-Green Also Lands a Lead Role in 'Prometheus'
Another name to add to the crew list for Ridley Scott's new sci-fi Prometheus. And I don't mean behind-the-scenes crew, I mean on the spaceship in the movie. Actor Logan Marshall-Green, mostly known for "24", "The O.C.", "Traveler" and "Dark Blue" on TV, though he also appeared in Devil and Brooklyn's Finest, has been cast in another lead role in Prometheus, according to Deadline. Marshall-Green will play the role of Holloway, a crewman on the spaceship and the love interest for the character that Noomi Rapace will play. He'll join actors Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie in the movie.
