Bill Murray to Play Franklin D. Roosevelt in 'Hyde Park on the Hudson'
Though it's not going to get much better than Bill Murray playing himself in Zombieland (or for that matter Space Jam), but the actor just picked up a great role that could end up landing him an Oscar nomination. Vulture reports Murray will play Franklin Delano Roosevelt in a big screen adaptation of the British radio play Hyde Park on the Hudson. Focus Features is behind the film which follows a love affair between FDR and his distant cousin, Margaret Stuckley. This all takes place in June 1939 at Roosevelt's upstate New York cottage during the first-ever visit to America by members of the United Kingdom monarchy. A risky love affair for sure!

Disney Unveils 'The Muppets' at CinemaCon + Viral Video Madness
The Muppets will be back soon and better than ever! As everyone already knows, Disney has scheduled The Muppets, Jason Segel's new Muppet movie starring himself, directed by Flight of the Conchords' James Bobin, for release on November 23rd this Thanksgiving. Well, Disney has already been bringing back the Muppets in a big way via viral videos on YouTube, as I just learned today at CinemaCon. Disney hosted their big 2011 presentation in Las Vegas and actually brought in Segel and co-star Amy Adams to introduce the first ever footage from the movie. It's going to be a wonderful, heartwarming return for the beloved puppets.

Joseph Kosinski's 'Oblivion' Leaves Disney and Looks for New Studio
Back in 2009, before Tron Legacy even hit theaters, director Joseph Kosinski has been developing an adaptation of his graphic novel series Oblivion before it was picked up by Disney. Since then we've seen some great concept art for the project and heard that The Departed screenwriter William Monahan would be adapting it. However, Deadline now reports that Disney has let the project leave the studio and it's currently being shopped around to other studios. The reason? Reportedly Disney decided that a gritty PG-13 science fiction action flick "didn’t fit into the Disney mandate." That seems strange coming from the studio running Marvel now.

Pixar Announces 'Monsters University' at CinemaCon, Teases 'Brave'
Now we know the title and I'm already very excited! I just left Disney's big presentation at CinemaCon today, the convention in Las Vegas for movie theaters and the movie industry, and have many things to talk about (like The Avengers) but the big news that I was most excited about and wanted to share with all of you, was the announcement of an official name for the upcoming Monsters Inc sequel that Pixar confirmed previously is in the works. It will be called Monsters University and is a prequel focusing on the years Mike and Sully went to Monsters University and how they became best friends. I already can't wait for this!

Awesome Montage Takes Heart-Warming Look at '25 Years of Pixar'
Recently we've featured some cool video montages highlighting the work of Christopher Nolan and some of cinema's finest opening title sequences. Now we have yet another fantastic look back at a niche in motion pictures as the folks at Go Into the Story (via SlashFilm) recently found this amazing montage titled 25 Years of Pixar. The video lovingly looks back at Pixar's work from the infancy of their short films in the 80's all the way up to their forthcoming sequel Cars 2 which hits theaters this summer. If you love Pixar as much as I do, then you'll love this fond look back into the past and may even have a few tears to wipe away.

Hailee Steinfeld Attached to Dream World 'Sleeping Beauty' Project
This past February we learned that young Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld had lined up a new project in the form of a big screen adaptation of Cat Patrick's novel Forgotten. Now she's lined up another project that fits into the recent alternate fairytale trend as Deadline reports the actress is attached to Sleeping Beauty, a new spec script being shopped around to studios that puts a twist on the classic sleepy princess. Lindsay Devlin has delivered a "revisionist take" on the tale that will have the story told from Beauty's point of view as she enters the dream world and has to find her way out. But I could've sworn Sucker Punch just hit theaters last week?

'Megamind' Writers to Give 'Madagascar' Penguins Their Own Movie
In case you didn't get enough of the mischievous Antarctic birds in the Madagascar films, THR reports DreamWorks Animation is putting together a feature film just for the penguins. Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, the writers who brought Megamind to life, will script the project following the schemes and exploits of Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico (yes, they have names). The characters have easily been the best parts of the Madagascar films and they've already been given a Christmas special in the form of "The Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper" and a show on Nickelodeon aptly titled "The Penguins of Madagascar."

Weinstein Company's 'Fraggle Rock' Movie Currently in 'Deep Coma'
Almost two years ago we heard that The Weinstein Company was working on Fraggle Rock, a feature film adaptation of the Jim Henson puppet series. Then after being in development for two years, some news came out of the woodwork that the script needed to be taken in a new direction. Now we have word from Hoodwinked director Corey Edwards that the film is completely stalled in a "deep coma." Edwards previously said, "The studio thought they knew what they wanted, encouraged me in a certain direction for two years, and now they want something different," So I guess it isn't all that surprising that nothing has happened for awhile.

Brad Pitt and Marc Forster's 'World War Z' is Back from the Dead?
Just last week we learned that the gestating adaptation of Max Brooks' novel World War Z was in serious trouble. Paramount Pictures was having trouble finding a financing partner to help put up the 125+ million budget, and if the money couldn't be found, the project would be left for dead. At the time an eleventh hour effort was being made to reach out to frequent funding friend David Ellison (of Oracle Corp.) to help get the project off the ground. Now it sounds like those efforts might pay off as Deadline reports talks between Paramount and the financier are "hot and heavy" with production potentially beginning as early as June.

CinemaCon Video Blog: Marvel's 'Thor' & 'Captain America' Footage!
Courage is Immortal. I'm currently in Las Vegas at another convention - CinemaCon. Most probably haven't heard of it, and that's because this is the first year it's known as CinemaCon. Years previous it was called ShoWest and I'm attending again for my fifth year in a row. It's a convention for the movie theaters themselves and the movie industry, from materials to concessions to equipment. Every year, the Hollywood studios stop by for major presentations including never-before-seen chunks of footage from the upcoming summer's releases. Marvel stopped by to tease Thor and Captain America with ~20 minutes from each.

Eric Bana and More Joining 'Up in the Air' Writer's Directorial Debut
After making a big splash as a 2009 Oscar nominee for his screenplay adapting Up in the Air for Jason Reitman, we heard almost a year ago that writer Sheldon Turner would make his directorial debut with By Virtue Fall. Later we found out that Colin Farrell and Eric Bana were looking to join the project, but neither was too pleased with the amount of their paycheck. Since then Farrell has gone on to take a role in the Total Recall remake, but now Bana has officially joined the drama about two ATF agents who find themselves on opposite sides of the friendship divide after one sells out the other. In addition, even more casting has been unveiled.

Adam McKay is Courting Russell Crowe for Adaptation of 'The Boys'
Last June we got official word that director Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights) would be venturing into some darker territory by helming the adaptation of Garth Ennis' comic book series The Boys. Well, MTV recently caught up with the director at the First Annual Comedy Awards where they chatted about the adaptation. The biggest revelation from McKay came when he mentioned one of the actors he's met with to potentially star in the film. The director said, "I've sat with some people. I really like the idea of Russell Crowe for [Billy] Butcher. We met and had kind of an interesting meeting." That sounds absolutely fantastic!
