First UK Trailer for Uruguayan One-Shot Horror 'The Silent House'
"What's going on in this house?" Before the Open Water directors release their remake of this exact film, I'm happy to feature the official UK trailer (via Trailer Addict) for Gustavo Hernández's The Silent House, or La Casa Muda, a Uruguayan horror movie shot entirely in one very long take. They used a Canon 5D to film the experiences of a father and his daughter at a "haunted house" in only one take. I saw this in Cannes last year and thought it was pretty good, but not as scary as I was hoping, and the big twist (which I won't spoil) isn't that great of a payoff. But that said, this is one of those flicks you've got to watch just for the technique.

Check These Out: Two Bold New Posters for Julian Schnabel's 'Miral'
Is this the face of a terrorist?! We've been remiss in covering anything regarding a controversial screening at the U.N. (more on that here) or, well, pretty much any recent news that is related to Julian Schnabel's new film Miral, starring the lovely Freida Pinto in a powerful role. The film is gaining more buzz because of that controversy and some odd marketing, like the official poster which includes that "face of a terrorist" tagline on it. Cinema Blend has debuted two new posters containing a bible verse referring to two nations no longer being at war. It's a very unique and bold set of posters that I wanted to post about, so check them out.

The Weinstein Co Pushes 'Apollo 18' Thriller Back to January 2012
This isn't a good sign. The Weinstein Company has announced a handful of new release dates, via Deadline, and among them is a major change for a sci-fi film that was supposed to be out in the next couple of weeks. Apollo 18, the "found footage" thriller about a "canceled" Apollo mission where they supposedly encounter something mysterious. They released the trailer back in February and it didn't look half bad, but some folks claimed they'd already figured out the story. Apollo 18 is now scheduled to hit theaters January 6th, 2012, about eight months after it was originally supposed to arrive (April 22nd). More release dates news below!

Watch: First Trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's 'The Three Musketeers'
All for one and one for all! Summit has debuted the first official trailer on Apple for Paul W.S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers that was shot and is being released in 3D this fall. As we already know, our three four musketeers are: Matthew Macfadyen (Athos), Ray Stevenson (Porthos) and Luke Evans (Aramis) and Logan Lerman (D'Artagnan). This certainly doesn't look like what I expected, but at the same time, it looks quite stylized and action-packed. We all know what to expect from W.S. Anderson, which is not much, but this does look quite entertaining. I can't help but say I will probably see it. Check out the trailer below!

Travolta & Cage Maybe Facing Off Again in 'Shrapnel' and 'Sea Trial'
It's been about 14 years since the 1997 action romp Face/Off, but now Nicolas Cage and John Travolta could be going head-to-head again in not one, but different independent thrillers. Vulture has the news on the promising reunion with one project that we heard about late last year, and another that's just now coming to the surface. The first would be Shrapnel, a script from Evan Dougherty that appeared on the 2008 Black List and just had Die Hard director John McTiernan attached to direct last September. But, the filmmaker has since found himself sentenced to a year in prison, so he may not even be involved anymore.

Video Interview: 'Source Code' Director & Movie Geek Duncan Jones
Some know him as @ManMadeMoon on Twitter, others know him as "Zowie Bowie", but everyone knows him as the talented filmmaker who broke out with the incredible indie sci-fi Moon in '09. Director Duncan Jones has finished and is about to release his second feature film - Source Code, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a soldier sent back in an 8-minute time loop to try and prevent the bombing of a train. I first met Duncan during Sundance when I interviewed him for Moon and have remained friends ever since. It was an honor to catch up with him again last week to talk about all things Source Code and life since Sundance 2009. Enjoy!

Lamentable PG-13 Cut of 'The King's Speech' Sadly Will Be Released
Harvey "Scissorhands" Weinstein wins again. I'm only going to write about this once, because I don't think this sad, mutilated version of what was once a great Oscar winning film deserves to be seen - by anyone. It doesn't deserve the attention or effort I'm even giving it, which is ironic because a mere three months ago, I was rooting for The King's Speech to win Best Picture (and it did anyway). The Weinstein Company has announced (via Deadline) that they will be releasing a new PG-13 cut of Tom Hooper's The King's Speech, minus the scenes with "fuck" used in them, in theaters on April 1st. It will open on 1000 screens in the US.

Review: Zack Snyder's 'Sucker Punch' Movie Kicks Some Serious Ass!
Sometimes the Hollywood machine works too well, churning out mindless drivel with such frequency that audiences gaze on the pretty pictures without a glimmer of a thought in their minds. They don't think to look deeper than the massive explosions and whirlwind action to discover actual meanings, the story that is truly being conveyed. That's probably worked too well for Zack Snyder, whose Sucker Punch is likely to play in front of millions of eyes but whose meaning is expected to be either lost or not even considered. It's definitely there, but does it also play on a visceral level? Does the imagery and story work hand-in-hand in creating a successful work of fiction?

Oscar Winner Tom Hooper Directing 'Les Miserables' Musical Next
My name is Jean Valjean. I am a convict from the galleys. Les Mis is back! Deadline reports that Universal has won the bidding war to develop a "full-blown musical adaptation" of Les Miserables, based on Victor Hugo's seminal classic published in 1862, with Oscar winning British director Tom Hooper of The King's Speech looking to direct. While anything could happen with the director over these next few months, since he is getting offers left and right now, Deadline states "this is the first film he's begun negotiations on since winning the Oscar" but were told "it would definitively be his next film." From King's Speech to Les Mis!

Marvel's Joe Quesada Dishes on 'Captain America', 'Thor' & 'Avengers'
We're just a couple months away from the theatrical release of Thor and his mighty hammer, and it's just another couple months after that we'll see Captain America: The First Avenger whip his shield around. Then just one short year later The Avengers will assemble for a superhero flick of epic proportions. Fans are undoubtedly excited, but Marvel's COO Joe Quesada could give them quite a run for their money. The executive has plenty to say about both of this summer's comic book blockbusters, their similarities and differences and even confirms The Avengers is already shooting and hypes the hell out of it.

James Vanderbilt Already Hired to Pen 'Amazing Spider-Man' Sequel
Not that it's unexpected, but even though principal photography isn't even completed on Marc Webb's new take on the iconic wallcrawler with The Amazing Spider-Man, Heat Vision reports the film's writer James Vanderbilt has already been hired to pen the sequel. Apparently the writer has even already pitched his outline for the sequel and producers and studio executives at Sony have given their approval. Obviously it's going to be awhile before we hear anything about the sequel considering the first film in this new franchise won't hit theaters until July 3, 2012, but that means a sequel shouldn't be that far behind.

Lars von Trier Could Direct a Film Titled 'The Nymphomaniac' Next
Have we got your attention? It's that title that is exactly what's helping controversial Danish director Lars von Trier get one his next projects funded. The Playlist reports from ScreenDaily (paying subscribers only) that Lars von Trier is considering directing a film called The Nymphomaniac following his latest project Melancholia, which is expected to premiere at Cannes. "Two titles that I put to my business partner... One was The Nymphomaniac, the other was Dirt in Bedsores. I asked him which one he thought was the most commercial. He said that with a title like The Nymphomaniac, the film would already be financed." Whoa.
