Alyson Hannigan is Joining the Returning Cast of 'American Reunion'
Last month we learned that the new batch of American Pie would keep the franchise in the family with cast members Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott and Eugene Levy ready to reprise their franchise roles for American Reunion. While other cast members from the first three films were said to be negotiating, one name absent from the list was Alyson Hannigan, the horny little band geek who became Jim's (Biggs) wife in American Wedding. Well, those of you worried that she wouldn't return for the sequel can now be calm as Deadline reveals that Hannigan just closed a deal to reprise her role in the R-rated sex comedy franchise.

Full JoinSHIELD.com Site Launches for New Recruits + Viral Game
Security Level 1 - Files Declassified. Remember a few weeks ago we showed you those nifty ID badges for fictional superhero agency S.H.I.E.L.D. that Marvel was making at WonderCon? Well, if you recall, there was also a website linked to the viral: JoinSHIELD.com and as promised, the site has fully launched today with a major update including the ability to sign-up and a seemingly expansive viral game. Unfortunately, it feels like more of an advertisement for Acura than it does for Marvel or its upcoming movies. Either way, if you've been anxious to get your own ID, you should sign-up (it uses Facebook) and hope they mail them out.

Peter Jackson Talks at Length About Using 48FPS for 'The Hobbit'
And so it really begins. To stir the pot, as one might say, director Peter Jackson has taken to Facebook to explain in length defense why they chose to shoot The Hobbit in 48FPS (or frames-per-second), as was revealed recently by DP Andrew Lesnie. This is a very fascinating response to see coming from all the debate that's been happening recently regarding James Cameron and shooting at 48/60FPS instead of the standard 24FPS and what that means and so on. I really love how transparent Peter Jackson and co are begin in regards to all of the production details on The Hobbit, it's really making this even more fascinating to follow.

Worth Watching: David Hyde Pierce Kills in 'The Perfect Host' Trailer
Let's party! Oh you gotta love concepts that twist concepts. The Perfect Host is a slippery psychological thriller that exposes true human nature and reveals just how far we're willing to go to satisfy our needs. David Hyde Pierce of "Fraiser" stars as Warwick Wilson, our "host", and he's joined by Clayne Crawford, Nathaniel Parker and Megahn Perry. Magnolia recently debuted the trailer on Apple for the release of this film, which first premiered at Sundance in early 2010. As usual, I'm surprised by how good some of the indie films I miss at Sundance actually look. I am definitely renting this! "Is everyone not enjoying themselves?!"

Exclusive: Poster Reveal for Jim Mickle's Superb Horror 'Stake Land'
Last year one of my favorite midnight horror movies of the Toronto Film Festival (plus Fantastic Fest, too!) was Jim Mickle's Stake Land, a fresh new take on the vampire genre with lots of blood and gore. IFC Films asked us to exclusively debut the official US poster for the upcoming release of Stake Land and I'm more than happy to do so, partially because I think it's a great horror flick, also because it's a kick ass poster. It might seem a bit patriotic with that flag, but I love the inverse blood and otherwise gritty look and feel. In front is Nick Damici as "Mister", and Connor Paolo to the left. Give this fantastic indie horror a chance!

It's Apes Week - Fox Begins Unveiling 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'
It's time. We heard last week that the first teaser trailer for Fox's newly titled Rise of the Planet of the Apes would be arriving sometime this week, but leading up to that debut, Fox has launched a series of small teases and events involving WETA Digital and beyond. First up, that new image above comes from their official website located at apeswillrise.com. Second, there's a "WETA reveal" of the completely CGI apes they've created that is a short 5-second clip (via Facebook) embedded below. It's a very impressive first look at the animals they've rendered for this movie. Plenty of details and more info about events this week below!

Website Update: New Text Buttons Revealed Today on FirstShowing
As many of you have probably already noticed, we just launched a new series of buttons today at the top of FirstShowing.net to replace the old ones (that we've had for years). It may seem odd that I'm writing a post about this change, but the reason I am is because we're using the latest HTML/CSS code possible with these new buttons to make sure everything looks as fantastic as it possibly can. However, this means that the new font won't work in old browsers, so I'm writing this to strongly encourage and emphasize that the website won't look right unless you use modern browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Opera.

Watch: Brand New Official Trailer for John Madden Thriller 'The Debt'
"Welcome to the mission." Focus Features has debuted a second, new official trailer for John Madden's espionage thriller The Debt, starring Helen Mirren, Tom Wilkinson and oh yea, this is the one with Sam Worthington, too. This was supposed to be out last year, but the Miramax sale caused it to be delayed, now Focus Features is taking over and here's their version of the trailer, since we did also see one last year. They're obviously overselling the thriller side of this, as there are dual storylines in past/present, but it still looks good, at least if you can stand Worthington in something like this. It's an impressive trailer.

Matt Reeves to Write & Direct '8 O'Clock in the Morning' Adaptation
His remake of Let the Right One In made my list for the Ten Best Films from 2010, and now it sounds like writer/director Matthew Reeves has his next project lined up. Deadline reports the Cloverfield and Let Me In helmer is set to adapt Ray Nelson's short story 8 O'Clock in the Morning into a feature film. The story follows a man who awakes from his sleep to realize that society is under a hypnotic state controlled by aliens who merely want the human race as a source of food. If that sounds familiar, it's because the story was acquired as the basis for John Carpenter's 1988 flicks They Live where aliens were seen with sunglasses.

Michael Fassbender Talks Shooting 'Prometheus' with Ridley Scott
The anticipated Alien prequel from Ridley Scott won't hit theaters until summer 2012, but production on Prometheus is already underway, and one of the film's stars has finally spoken out about filming on the project. Michael Fassbender, who plays an android in the film, recently spoke with Hero Complex about this exciting project which also stars Charlize Theron and Idris Elba, and it sounds like a great return to the classic sci-fi franchise. Though he doesn't reveal anything more about the story or his character, Fassbender says excitedly, "I walk on the set and I feel like I'm walking on a spaceship. It's breathtaking." Read on!

'Hummingbird' to Mark 'Eastern Promises' Writer's Directorial Debut
After delivering great work on the page for films like Eastern Promises and Dirty Pretty Things, writer Steven Knight is going to try his hand behind the camera. Deadline reports the screenwriter is set to make his directorial debut with a new thriller called Hummingbird. The writer also scripted the story himself which follows a damaged ex-special forces soldier, who finds himself trapped in the criminal underworld, and assumes another man's identity to exact revenge. If it has the same kind of edge and grit that made David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortensen such a great crime thriller, then we should be in for a treat.
