Ben Stiller Now Bringing New Life to 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'
Last year we found out that the long-gestating adaptation of James Thurber's classic short story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty may have found a lead actor in Sacha Baron Cohen and a director in Gore Verbinski. However, a new name is now fueling the project. Deadline reports Ben Stiller is currently in talks with 20th Century Fox to take the title role in the film. Apparently a new take on the script from The Pursuit of Happyness writer Steve Conrad is the source of Stiller's interest, and the studio is hoping to get the project off the ground later this year. A director is currently being sought to make the family friendly film.

'Scott Pilgrim' and 'Toy Story 3' Win at First Annual Comedy Awards
Back in February we let you know about the nominees for Comedy Central and MTV Networks night for honoring the best comedy films, actors, TV series, digital content and stand-up acts with the 1st Annual Comedy Awards. Well, the ceremony (which was pre-taped months ago) finally aired last night with plenty of laughs, but not much pomp and circumstance for the film related awards. Since those are the only ones we're concerned with here (television just isn't our bag), you can find the full list of winners for all film related categories below, to find out if your favorite comedies and their stars were able to snag any awards.

VFX Master Douglas Trumbull to Direct a 3D Film at High Framerates
He's back! Douglas Trumbull, visual effects master from the 70's who worked on 2001, Close Encounters, and directed a few films like Silent Running and Brainstorm, is planning to direct his first feature film in over 28 years. THR reports that he's launching a company called Magnetar Productions and is "in the process of completing the screenplay for what will be the company's first movie." He didn't reveal a name or any details on the project, but confirmed that it's a 3D feature he'll shoot at higher framerates. Ever since James Cameron demoed 48/60FPS at CinemaCon, the industry has been buzzing, good and bad, about FPS.

Zach Galifianakis No Longer Starring in 'R.I.P.D.' with Ryan Reynolds
We've known Ryan Reynolds would be leading the adaptation of the Dark Horse graphic novel R.I.P.D. (or Rest In Peace Department) since last April, and last September brought the official news that Robert Schwentke (RED) would be at the helm of the project. Then this past February we reported that Zach Galifianakis would play Reynolds' partner in the story of a dead cop (Reynolds) that makes a deal to work 100 years for divine law enforcement in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Now Deadline is reporting that the comedian simply won't be able to fit the project into his busy upcoming schedule.

Watch: Daniel Radcliffe in First 'The Woman in Black' Teaser Trailer
Hammer Films has debuted the first teaser trailer via IGN for their retelling of the classic ghost story The Woman In Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe in one of his first lead film roles since wrapping up Harry Potter. This is such a great brooding, creeping trailer that will hopefully keep people interested in this until it ever gets released (October in the UK, but no release date in the US yet). It's more of a classic ghost story known to Europe than it is the US, but there's something to it, something mysterious I'm already interested in. It's a short trailer that doesn't reveal much, so without further ado, fire up The Woman in Black teaser.

Michael Shannon Cast as General Zod in Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel'
Kneel before Zod! Continuing their tradition of announcing casting on Sundays, Warner Bros has officially confirmed that Michael Shannon (seen right above) will star as General Zod in director Zack Snyder's new Superman film, now titled Man of Steel. Either they're being crafty removing "Superman" from the title and relying solely or marketing, or they're in big trouble, but I have a feeling it's the former. Snyder states, "Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the

Indie Trailer Sunday: Andreas Lust Stars in German Film 'The Robber'
"Sprint, don't walk, to catch it!" My favorite quote from the trailer. Kino International has debuted the official US trailer on Apple for the German film The Robber, starring Austrian actor Andreas Lust as Johann Rettenberger, a real marathon athlete who robbed banks as a hobby by running from then back in the 90's. This actually looks surprisingly good, like it gets into the psyche and mentality behind this guy and what made him tick. The performances look incredible, the story looks intriguing, I think I'm going to need to see this. I'm sure most of you have never heard of this film, but please give it a shot, it looks really good!

Legendary Filmmaker Sidney Lumet Passes Away at 86 Years Old
This weekend brought some tragic news to Hollywood in the form of a great loss from cinema's short but sparkling history. The NY Times reported yesterday that director Sidney Lumet, the many responsible for such classic films as 12 Angry Men, had passed away at 86-years old. His stepdaughter revealed the legendary filmmaker had succumbed to lymphoma. Though he only made a few films in the past decade, they did include evidence of his great directing by getting a decent performance out of Vin Diesel in Find Me Guilty, as well as a phenomenal crime drama in the form of Before the Devil Knows Your Dead.

Tobey Maguire is Joining the Cast of Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi' Adaptation
Don't worry, he's not going to replace the little boy who is actually the lead in the movie. Variety reports that Tobey Maguire has "committed" to joining the small cast of Ang Lee's adaptation of Yann Martel's bestselling/prizewinning novel Life of Pi. The book is about a boy who is cast adrift in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger. 17-year-old newcomer Suraj Sharma will play Pi Patel. How will Maguire fit into this? Slumdog Millionaire star Irrfan Khan will play the adult Pi, while Maguire is set to play a writer who interviews him about his life-changing experience. So it's more of a bit role, but it will still be interesting to see him in this.

Check Out This Excellent Vintage Bond-Like Poster for Pixar's 'Cars 2'
The First James Bond-Cars Film Adventure! I've got a confession to make: Pixar really sold me with this whole James Bond mixed with Cars storyline. I'm hooked. And brilliantly designed posters like this are only making me more excited to see this, which I know is pretty much sacrilege to Pixar devotees who despise the first Cars. This new "vintage" poster for Pixar's Cars 2 recently hit the web and while I can't find its true origin, I owe credit to Upcoming Pixar and Cinema Blend for helping me find a high res version. I just love how perfectly classic James Bond it is, with the European villain-car guy and everything. Enjoy!

Visual Effects Vet Tim Miller Making Directorial Debut on 'Deadpool'
"Look, Deadpool is not a villain... he's an asshole," Ryan Reynolds quipped at WonderCon last weekend. Looks like we may finally see this happen, as 24 Frames reports, with confirmation from Deadline, that visual effects specialist Tim Miller will be making his directorial debut on Deadpool for 20th Century Fox. Miller worked on effects for X-Men and Daredevil, and recently Scott Pilgrim vs. the World working at Blur Studios. I'm glad to finally see some progress, now let's just get a start date set! Fox has been considering numerous directors but with Aronofsky's exit, things have been in flux, though this seems like a solid choice.

Josh Pence Apparently Playing Ra's Al Ghul in 'The Dark Knight Rises'
Whoa - big casting news for The Dark Knight Rises. THR is reporting that Josh Pence, the actor who played Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network, at least physically some times (not the face), has been cast in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. THR claims that he'll be playing the role of a young Ra's Al Ghul, which is a bit of an odd reveal because it must mean there's a flashback or some other big twist. THR adds: "Also, while the studio never confirmed [Marion] Cotillard's character, it has been rumored to be that of Thalia Al Ghul." With Hathaway, Hardy and Gordon-Levitt as well, this is quite a cast they're amassing.
