Check This Out: First Posters for 'The Adventures of Tintin' Revealed!

The Adventures of Tintin

Tintin is coming! Word is that we may finally see a trailer for this movie tomorrow, but before then, Empire has the first official teaser poster and it's quite cool to see. The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is the first big CGI animated adaptation of Hergé's beloved characters. We've been hearing about this for years and waiting to see a trailer, as we finally got a first look last year, now we're nearly there. It's a great poster for a movie with a lot of interest and I also like the epic pirate ship/airplane background imagery that definitely indicates this is going to be quite an adventure. Check out this new poster full below!

Ramin Bahrani Casts Zac Efron & Dennis Quaid in His Newest Project

Ramin Bahrani & Zac Efron

I assume that most people have never heard of Ramin Bahrani, which is a bit of a shame, but I'm hoping to change that today. If you do know Bahrani and/or his films, please make yourself known in the comments below. Bahrani is actually an American filmmaker who I was first introduced to with the film Goodbye Solo, a fantastic indie that I highly suggesting renting/watching as soon as possible. Some may know him from 2007's Chop Shop as well. Bahrani has a new untitled project in the works and has snagged some rather impressive names for the film: Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron. Odd picks, but I'm sure they'll be great in it.

Jim Jarmusch Making Vampire Film with Michael Fassbender & More

Jim Jarmusch

After directing a unique assortment of films including The Limits of Control, Broken Flowers and Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, it looks like director Jim Jarmusch will venture into vampire territory. Screen Daily reports the filmmaker is set to helm a vampire centric feature with Michael Fassbender, Tilda Swinton and Mia Wasikowska as bloodsuckers. Jarmusch describes the film himself as a “crypto-vampire love story,” so it's your average genre film, and is exactly the kind of peculiar film we've come to expect from Jarmusch. The film doesn't yet have a title, but is slated to shoot sometime early next year.

Cannes 2011 Review: Michel Hazanavicius' B&W Silent Film 'The Artist'

The Artist Cannes Review

In today's modern world, we're used to seeing films in color, with sound, with music, with dialogue, and sometimes even in 3D. Every once in a while a filmmaker goes black-and-white to tell a story. But before yesterday, never have I seen a modern filmmaker attempt to create a completely new B&W silent film. Not only did French filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius do exactly that, but he has crafted a wonderful homage that's just wonderful and exudes an effusive love for cinema. It's called The Artist and stars French actors Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo and is set in the late 20s in Hollywood at the end of the silent film era.

Film District Grabs Angelina Jolie's 'In the Land of Blood and Honey'

Angelina Jolie

We just found out last week that Film District had picked up Rian Johnson's sci-fi action flick Looper starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt for distribution, and now they've decided to pick up the directorial debut from actress Angelina Jolie. The company announced their acquisition of In the Land of Blood and Honey in a press release with the movie slated to hit theaters on December 23rd of this year. The film is set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War in the 90's and illustrates the consequences of the lack of political will to intervene in a society stricken with conflict. Jolie says, "The film is specific to the Bosnian War, but it's also universal."

Cannes 2011: Latest Update & Video Blog #2 with Film.com's Laremy

2011 Cannes Film Festival

This is the year. I need to say it again because I truly believe it. I keep seeing one incredible movie after another at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. And they're not just great films, but they're films I'm loving, that I'm already excited to see again. It's the eve of the very first premiere of Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life (on Monday morning at 8:30AM), the big turning point in the festival as it's not only the mid-way point, but it's that film, the one everyone is expecting to be the best of the festival. And it's exciting we're reaching this point now when I could say I'm already satisfied by many of the amazing movies I've come across so far.

However, a completely different project has just been revealed by Dimension Films, Miramax and The Weinstein Company that will also toss another film into the horror franchise. The three companies just announced production of The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes, a film that will take the recent found footage craze and apply it to the story of the classic horror series. by showcasing the events after the time of the original The Amityville Horror book and movie.

Ryan Gosling is Directing and Starring in Remake of 'The Idolmaker'

Idolmaker / Ryan Gosling

We'll next see him in the promising romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love alongside Steve Carell and Emma Stone, and his first action role in Drive will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival this week (see all of Alex's coverage from France right here), but Ryan Gosling has plenty more coming down the pipeline. Not only will Gosling reteam with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn for a remake of Logan's Run, but he will also reunite with Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance for A Place Beyond the Pines. Now Deadline says Gosling is also set to direct and star in The Idolmaker, a remake of the 1980 film of the same name.

Cannes 2011 Review: Gerardo Naranjo's Riveting Thriller 'Miss Bala'

Gerardo Naranjo's Miss Bala

It has been an incredible year at Cannes and this is yet another film to add to my growing list of those that surprised and amazed me; another favorite. Coming from Mexican writer/director Gerardo Naranjo is a riveting new drama called Miss Bala, more of a thriller about a young 23-year-old beauty pageant wannabe (played by Stephanie Sigman) who mistakenly gets caught up in the insane world of organized crime in Mexico. I say insane because, well, there's crazy things that happen. It starts quickly and never lets up, pushing forwarded relentlessly and barely giving the audience a chance to take a breath. It was exhilarating.

Cannes 2011 Review: Peter Chan's Awesome Martial Arts Film 'Wu Xia'

Peter Chan's Wu Xia

I love most martial arts movies, but there are a few in particular that stand out above others, like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (which premiered in Cannes in 2000), and Wu Xia is one of those exceptional films. Now I know why Cannes chose to feature it. Wu Xia (being titled either Swordsmen and/or Dragon in English) is the latest film from Chinese director Peter Ho-Sun Chan, also of The Warlords a few years ago, and it's awesome. While it does have a few fantastic fight scenes, he never sacrifices story for spectacle, which pays off as it's a film that I enjoyed from start to finish and will definitely be revisiting in the future.

Indie Trailer Sunday: Very Early Promo Clip for 'Jodorowsky's Dune'

Jodorowsky's Dune Trailer

"For me [it] was not to make a picture, [but] something deeper, something sacred, something free, with new perspective." Okay, so this isn't necessarily a trailer, but it's essentially a trailer and is worth watching anyway. Following the news earlier in the week that a documentary called Jodorowsky's Dune, about the filmmaker's attempt to adapt the sci-fi novel, was officially in the works, Twitch has posted a promo clip featuring Alejandro Jodorowsky talking about it and it's pretty awesome to see. I just love the way this builds with him speaking and the way it ends. Now I'm even more excited to see the doc. Check it out below!

FilmDistrict/Sony Picks Up Rian Johnson's Sci-Fi 'Looper' for Release

Rian Johnson's Looper

Great news for Rian Johnson - his upcoming science fiction film Looper now has a home. Deadline & THR are reporting that Endgame Entertainment and FilmDistrict are partnering for the theatrical release. They will be releasing it in the US through Sony Pictures's TriStar, which sounds like it may actually get released by Sony proper and not the newly formed FilmDistrict. Looper is a time-travel action thriller that involves a killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who works for the mob of the future. He, along with other Loopers, dispose of people that are sent from the future. This flick is already one of my most anticipated upcoming releases.
