Casting Tidbits: Alex Pettyfer, Dakota Fanning, Zoe Saldana & More
Gozer the Gozerian... good evening. As a duly designated representative of the City, County and State of Casting Tidbits, I order you to cease any and all supernatural activity and return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest convenient parallel dimension. First up, we recently heard about Channing Tatum starring in Magic Mike, another film from Steven Soderbergh about the actor's teenage years spent as a male stripper. Now Deadline reports I Am Number Four star Alex Pettyfer will play the young version of Tatum, while Tatum himself will actually play the teen's mentor on and off the dance stage.

Cannes 2011: Alex's First Video Blog & Updates from the Film Fest!
This is the year, the year I think I've been waiting for, the vintage year at the Cannes Film Festival that I knew was one day coming. We've only just finished Day 2 (it's currently Friday morning here in France) and I've only seen four films so far, but everything has been absolutely parfait so far. For those who don't speak French, that means "perfect". My travel here, the films I've seen, the experience so far, even the apartment we rented to stay in (with Eric from IONCinema) has been better than ever before. And I'm hoping it'll only get even better as the fest continues. How are the films I've seen? All but one of them I thoroughly enjoyed.

New Documentary Called 'Jodorowsky's Dune' Currently in the Works
Now this sounds great already! THR is reporting that a new documentary was announced in Cannes today that is titled Jodorowsky's Dune. We wouldn't normally hear much buzz about this just beginning production, but it's a new documentary that I already can't wait to see. The film chronicles the attempt, and subsequent failure, of Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky (El Topo, The Holy Mountain, Santa Sangre) to adapt Frank Herbert's seminal science fiction classic Dune with an incredible team of artists and filmmakers (listed below) back in the mid-70s before David Lynch's film was made in 1984. I'm totally sold.

Cannes 2011 Review: Gus Van Sant's Charming Love Story 'Restless'
The latest film from filmmaker Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Elephant, Milk) premiering in Cannes is a quaint love story called Restless, starring Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Jane Eyre) and Henry Hopper (Dennis Hopper's son) as two unconventional teens who fall in love. But with any good story, it's much more than that. It started out a bit slow, but picked up by the second act and had me fully emotionally invested by the end. It's not as polished as GVS's Milk (my favorite movie of his that I've seen), but it's another wonderful film that tells a very sweet, heartwarming story between these two unusual kids.

Cannes 2011 Review: Emily Browning in Julia Leigh's 'Sleeping Beauty'
Julia Leigh's Sleeping Beauty is exactly the kind of film I hate. Made by an amateur Australian novelist-turned-filmmaker named Julia Leigh, who shouldn't be directing and, perhaps, should never direct again. It's bland, boring, tasteless, has a story about as thin as thread, is full of pointless fade outs and lacks more than 10 seconds of music in the entire film (which I cannot stand). I guess the redeeming value, if there was one, is that Aussie actress Emily Browning is naked in nearly every scene. But not even for good reason. A highly anticipated Cannes film and yep, it was awful, and I actually have something to say about it this time.

Jonathan Levine Will Direct Sci-Fi Adaptation 'Legend' for CBS Films
Great news for one of my favorite up-and-coming directors - Jonathan Levine. Ever since first seeing his film The Wackness at Sundance years ago, which I loved, I've been a follower/supporter. His latest film is 50/50 (formerly known as I'm With Cancer) and I must say that it's actually a great film, don't miss it later this year, but he's already lined up another project. CBS Films has formally announced that Levine will direct an adaptation of Marie Lu's upcoming novel Legend, a sci-fi story set over a hundred years in the future in Los Angeles when North America is split into two warring nations. Read on for more story details.

Review: Paul Feig's 'Bridesmaids' Breathes New Life in Comedy Again
"Something old, something new..." is the way the traditional wedding poem begins. It's also an appropriate way to describe Bridesmaids, the new comedy directed by Paul Feig (previously of I Am David, "Arrested Development", "Nurse Jackie", "The Office", Unaccompanied Minors) and produced by comedy mastermind Judd Apatow. The wild twists and turns leading up to a wedding. A friend rivaling for the attention of the betrothed from the newer, cooler friend in their life. The eccentricities of the wedding party and guests that lead to all kinds of high jinks. The pre-wedding blast that doesn't quite end as planned.

Watch: Two Intriguing New TV Spots for JJ Abrams' 'Super 8' Unveiled
"I saw it, no one believes me." I cannot wait to see this movie, it looks like the movie I've been waiting all my life to see (not exaggerating, I love science fiction stuff like this). Paramount has recently debuted two new 30-second TV spots for J.J. Abrams' summer sci-fi Super 8, one of them on SlashFilm, the other on Yahoo. They both start out with most of the same footage, but they both have some new footage we've never seen, including a spinning/floating car and a truck that explodes and lots of small objects come flying out. This is getting more and more intriguing. I don't know how anyone can't be excited for this after these spots.

Check This Out: Revised US Poster for Richard Ayoade's 'Submarine'
A comedy that doesn't let principles stand in the way of progress. Wow, what a tagline, if that can even called a tagline. ComingSoon has debuted another new official US poster for Richard Ayoade's fantastic indie Submarine, which we've been raving about since the Toronto Film Fest last year. Yes, we've seen this exact poster before, last year, but this is a revised version with some new quotes and a slightly different arrangement. I'm featuring it not because I'm that big of a fan of the design, but because this indie needs all the attention it can get. I love this film. Make sure not to miss it once it's released this summer! See below.

Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton Heading 'Gently Down the Stream'
The two previously appeared in the same film in what most would call their heyday with The Godfather Part II in 1974, and would work together again in Marvin's Room in 1996. Now Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton are set to reunite in the indie comedy Gently Down the Stream. The story sees the two veteran actors playing a long-divorced couple who, for the sake of their adopted son's wedding and his biological mother, pretend they are still married. They quickly learn that acting the part isn't easy, especially when their past, present and future unravel for all to see. Who knows the embarrassing arguments they'll have?

Scott Rudin & 'Terrorist Search Engine' are Targeting Jesse Eisenberg
Though he may not have taken home the big prize for Best Picture at the Academy Awards with the fantastic film The Social Network, there's no denying producer Scott Rudin still hit a homerun with the story of Facebook. Now Rudin is looking to team with the film's star Jesse Eisenberg yet again. Vulture reports the producer has just optioned Wesley Yang's article from New York Magazine called The Terrorist Search Engine which profiles controversial counterterrorism expert witness Evan Kohlmann. If that doesn't mean a thing to you, it might be easier to say that he has been dubbed "the Doogie Howser of Terrorism."

Tim Robbins Joining Ruffalo in Sex Addict Story 'Thanks for Sharing'
Back in January we learned that The Kids Are All Right writer Stuart Blumberg would make his directorial debut with a comedy called Thanks for Sharing. In addition, Mark Ruffalo was coming along for the ride in the story about three sex addicts in a 12-step recovery clinic together in New York City. In addition to Gilbert Films, the company behind the aforementioned Best Picture nominee, producing the feature, Edward Norton is involved as an executive producer (Blumberg previously wrote Norton's directorial debut Keeping the Faith). Now THR has word that Tim Robbins is joining the project as one of the sex addicts.
