Must Watch: Fantastic Trailer for Alexander Payne's 'The Descendants'
"I'm the back-up parent... the understudy." Fox Searchlight has debuted the first of what I'd call one of the true Oscar 2011 heavy weight contenders - an official trailer on Apple for Alexander Payne's new film The Descendants starring George Clooney. Based on the book by Kaui Hemmings, Clooney stars as Matt King, a man who is trying to take care of his family of two daughters while his wife is in the hospital. It looks phenomenal, like one of those late fall films that will sweep everyone away this year and I cannot wait. The cast includes: Shailene Woodley, Beau Bridges, Robert Forster, Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard. Watch below!

Watch: Very Cheesy First Trailer for David R. Ellis' 'Shark Night 3D'
Terror Runs Deep. Relativity has debuted a trailer via Apple for David R. Ellis' Shark Night 3D, the crazy cheesy new horror movie which looks/plays exactly like Piranha 3D meets Friday the 13th meets Deep Blue Sea. The cast is obviously a big group of hotties: Sara Paxton, Christine Quinn, Chris Carmack, Chris Zylka, with Joel Moore. I don't know how the hell these sharks got so far upstream up a river, or how they're so smart, maybe there's no explanation, as obviously this is about watching all these kids get gnawed up by various-sized sharks. They barely even show them anyway! This looks about as good as Piranha, watch out.

Review: 'The Hangover Part II' is a Funny Retread of Familiar Ground
Director Todd Phillips' two best friends are the copy and the paste buttons. To be fair, he's not the only screenwriter on The Hangover Part II, the retread/remake/okay, we'll call it a sequel to the 2009 smash hit, The Hangover. Between Phillips, Scot Armstrong, and Craig Mazin, we can't be sure who clicked copy, who clicked paste and who sorted through it with the replace feature to switch things up just the tiniest bit. In place of Doug, the three leads, Phil, Alan, and Stu, have misplaced Stu's soon-to-be bride's brother. In place of a tiger, we've got a cute monkey. In place of a missing tooth, we've got a face tattoo a la Mike Tyson.

Alan Rickman's Fond Farewell After Finishing Work on 'Harry Potter'
Since the beginning of the franchise with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001 through this summer's conclusion in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II (watch the trailer right here), we've watched Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow up as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley. And around them has been some of the finest A-List talent from across the pond including Alan Rickman as the ominous and mysterious Professor Snape. Well, the actor finished his last bit of work on the franchise last month and followed it with a fond, public farewell to the franchise.

Watch: Fun New Theatrical Trailer for Sony's 'The Smurfs' 3D Movie
"Oh my Smurf." This is a trailer you've just got to watch, even if you're going to skip this summer movie. Why? Because there's an amazing Avatar reference at the beginning with the music and then it delves into the insanely wacky story that is The Smurfs in 3D. In addition to all those little blue guys, the live-action cast includes Neil Patrick Harris, Glee's Jayma Mays, SofĂa Vergara and Hank Azaria as the evil Gargamel. There's even a cat, and Katy Perry is voicing Smurfette, this just looks like a wild, fun time. They have seriously brought the Smurfs to life on the big screen in realistic 3D, it's kinda crazy. Have fun!

Lars von Trier's Apologies and Responses to the Cannes Nazi Fiasco
We promised to keep you updated on the situation regarding Danish director Lars von Trier being named persona non grata at the Cannes Film Festival. While there isn't much news to report, per se, von Trier himself has remained in the press over the last week. He's issued numerous apologies, conducted quite a few interviews, and spoken out for and against everything that happened. I'm not here to debate whether he's truly apologetic or not, or whether he's truly a Nazi or just made a huge mistake at the press conference, but I decided to collect the various responses that von Trier has had since he was banned from Cannes last week.

Updates on Terrence Malick's 'Voyage of Time' + His Other New Film
Though he still won't step out in public, director Terrence Malick is definitely in the spotlight this week, as his new film The Tree of Life just won the Cannes Palme d'Or over the weekend. ComingSoon caught up with the film's producers at its recent Hollywood premiere and got a few new quotes/updates from them about the future of Malick and his upcoming projects, since he has a couple of things going on. Not only did they confirm that the Voyage of Time IMAX movie, a documentary spin-off from Tree of Life, was still in the works, but also that his next film (that's already been shot) will be completely different, not so abstract.

New R-Rated 'Riddick' Movie Greenlit Only if Vin Diesel Takes Pay Cut
We've been hearing about a new Chronicles of Riddick movie being in the works, with Vin Diesel back as Riddick again, and franchise creator David Twohy back at the helm, for years at this point. Word is that they've been scouting locations, working on plenty of early concept art, and figuring everything out so that they can actually shoot a gritty, R-rated sequel that harkens back to the first Pitch Black movie more than its sequel, The Chronicles of Riddick. Well, Diesel himself took to his Facebook wall (via AICN) again to reveal a very interesting private detail regarding the sequel: they will only be able to make it if he works "for scale."

Check It Out: IGN's 'Video Game Movies by the Numbers' Infographic
We all know that video game movies are still cursed in Hollywood, bound to never be good, so while we wait the years it'll take to finally make a good one, our friends at IGN have created a new infographic: Video Game Movies by the Numbers. The chart visualizes, in typical cartoony style, various statistics including the highest grossing video game movie (which is Lara Croft: Tomb Raider hence the photo above) as well as best/worst reviewed video game movies, ranked by budget, ranked by opening weekend and so on. You can see the infographic below. This is interesting, but only confirms that most of these suck, no matter the cost.

Cary Fukunaga Set to Helm 'No Blood, No Guts, No Glory' for Focus
You've gotta love the career choices filmmaker Cary Fukunaga is making - from his debut Sin Nombre, to the seminal classic Jane Eyre, now back to the Civil War. Variety is reporting that Fukunaga is attached to a project called No Blood, No Guts, No Glory at Focus Features, a Civil War heist film that he will co-write the screenplay for with Chase Palmer. The original script ended up on the Black List years ago, described as "The Dirty Dozen set during the Civil War" following 20 Union soldiers in disguise who board a train in Georgia in order to pull off a heist that could bring an end to the Civil War. Sounds quite intriguing.

Columbia Picks Up Kathryn Bigelow's Untitled Osama bin Laden Film
It was officially announced by Columbia Pictures (via Deadline) that they have acquired US distribution rights to the new film from director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal, the Oscar winning team behind The Hurt Locker. Its been called various names including Triple Frontier and Sleeping Dogs, but Columbia's press release calls this an "untitled film." It will focus on the black ops mission to find Osama bin Laden, which resulted in his death this month during a raid on his compound in Pakistan. Bigelow & Boal have been developing this since 2008 and plan to incorporate the recent events. That didn't take long.
