First Look: Jack Black in Richard Linklater's Newest Comedy 'Bernie'

Richard Linklater's Bernie

It was announced today that the new film from Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise, A Scanner Darkly, Me and Orson Welles) will be opening the Los Angeles Film Festival, kicking off this June. Titled Bernie, the black comedy stars Jack Black as Bernie, a beloved mortician in a small Texas town. Even the town's richest, meanest widow adores him. You can't get anybody to say a bad word about Bernie—even after he commits a nasty crime. This sounds like it might have a Coen Bros murder mystery brilliance to it, or so we can only hope. A few new photos from Bernie hit via Collider, check them out below.

Must Watch: Eerie Official Trailer for Michael Shannon's 'Take Shelter'

Take Shelter Trailer

"Is anyone seeing this?" Sony Pictures Classics has debuted the official trailer for an indie film called Take Shelter, written and directed by Jeff Nichols (Shotgun Stories) that stars Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain. I actually saw this while I was in Cannes and loved it, it's a fantastic, unsettling, but brilliant thriller that blew me away, I loved it. This trailer features some of the very eerie score that makes the movie so good, in my opinion, as well as a sampling of the craziness - it's an outstanding trailer. I really hope some of you take an interest in seeing this, as it does come highly recommended! You've gotta see it to believe it.

Ed Westwick to Play Tybalt in 'Romeo & Juliet' with Hailee Steinfeld

Romeo and Juliet / Ed Westwick

The actor has already made waves on The CW series "Gossip Girl" and we'll get a chance to see him on the big screen in Clint Eastwood's Hoover biopic, and now Ed Westwick landed himself another film role. Variety reports the actor is set to play Tybalt in a new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet from Italian director Carlo Carlei which already has True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld as the titular female lead in the tragic romance. For those who haven't dealt with the Shakespeare play in school, or seen any of the various film versions, Tybalt is Lady Capulet's nephew and the arch rival of Romeo, which does not bode well for him.

'Country Strong' Director to Helm Dark Version of 'The Little Mermaid'

Mermaid

This past weekend saw mermaids of a darker origin hit the big screen in the lackluster sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (read Jeremy's review right here), but now it sounds like the mythical beings of the sea will have another story coming to theaters. Variety reports Country Strong director Shana Feste is set to write and direct a feature film based on Carolyn Turgeon's novel Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale. The novel itself is actually a dark retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, so I wouldn't count on any musical numbers or talking crabs in the familiar mermaid story this time.

Must Watch: First Wonderful Trailer for Disney's 'The Muppets' Movie

The Muppets Movie

"Wait wait wait, stop... are there Muppets in this movie?!" Those who went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides this weekend were shown a trailer for a new movie called Green With Envy, which as it turns out, is actually just a new trailer for Disney's The Muppets movie, which has finally hit the web via YouTube. It's a whole lot of fun and if you haven't seen it, just start watching right away as the joke is pretty much ruined already knowing what it is, but it's still a must-see trailer. Starring Jason Segel and Amy Adams, this charming Muppets revival looks like it's full of heart, comedy and plenty of fun, so check it out!

2011 Cannes Film Festival Winners - 'Tree of Life' Takes Palme d'Or

Kirsten Dunst - Cannes Film Festival Winner

The 2011 Cannes Film Festival awards winners were announced on Sunday evening in France. As we've been following the fest closely this year, I was curious to see who would win, and it indeed was Terrence Malick's year, as his abstract new film The Tree of Life took home the coveted Palme d'Or. Additionally, Kirsten Dunst from Melancholia, directed by since banned filmmaker Lars von Trier, won Best Acting. I've seen the film and she deserves it, so congrats. The jury included: Robert De Niro, Olivier Assayas, Martina Gusman, Jude Law, Uma Thurman, Johnnie To and Linn Ullmann. Read on for a full winners list!

Another Awesome New 'It All Ends' Poster for 'Harry Potter 7: Part 2'

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

"It All Ends" is the epic tagline Warner Bros has decided to use for their Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 marketing material, given we're already into the thick of the summer now and only a few months away. Although I didn't think we'd see anything better than the badass face-to-face Harry vs. Voldemort Deathly Hallows: Part 2 poster, another new one featuring the rather exhausted, beat-up, dirty face of Harry Potter, played by Daniel Radcliffe, has appeared online via the official Facebook. It's not like we haven't seen the face of Harry before, but it's exciting leading up to the finale especially with that tagline.

Must Watch: Awesome Trailer for 'Batman Live' Touring Arena Show

Batman Live

We got an awesome first look at Tom Hardy as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises last week, and while it will certainly be a long time before we see the first trailer from the anticipated blockbuster sequel, we have a trailer for a different form of Batman entertainment. Starting in the United Kingdom this summer, Batman Live, a worldwide touring arena show will kick off, and we have the cool trailer for the promising show here. It's very reminiscent of that short film Carousel from Adam Berg we highlighted awhile back when he was rumored to direct Deadpool, and while it's a short tease, this looks like it could be a pretty sweet show.

Check This Out: First Cool Teaser Poster for Shawn Levy's 'Real Steel'

Shawn Levy's Real Steel Teaser

"Champions aren't born. They're made." Holy crap is that super Shredder back from the dead?! No wait, it's just some gigantic robot fist punching through a boxing ring, hanging onto some heavy cable. The first teaser poster for Shawn Levy's robot fightin' movie Real Steel has debuted on ComingSoon. Everyone loves a good look at a poster, so here's one for ya. It's pretty basic and I prefer the viral Japanese poster more, but this still elicits some heavy metal promises. The first full trailer for Real Steel was debuted a couple of weeks ago, so check that out of if you haven't seen it yet. And let us know what you think of this new teaser poster!

Indie Trailer Sunday: Alex Gibney's Trippy Ken Kesey Doc 'Magic Trip'

Magic Trip Trailer

"All you can do is experience this thing." It's time for an acid trip. Magnolia recently debuted this official trailer on Apple for the Alex Gibney & Alison Ellwood documentary Magic Trip, about the "LSD-fuelled cross-country road trip to the New York World's Fair" that Ken Kesey, author of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", took in 1964. It's comprised of "Kesey's footage, audio recordings, and photographs" to create a "fully immersive cinematic experience." This trailer makes it seem like this doc will be pretty wild, so see this only if you're stoner friend can tag along, because he'll love it. Check out the official trailer below!

First Look: Fan-Made 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Logo + Teaser Poster

The Amazing Spider-Man

You've gotta love the summer - so much good stuff finally comes out of the woodwork, not only movies, but great marketing stuff like this. Thanks to ShockYa (via Latino Review), an early teaser poster and logo set for Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man, the reboot being directed by Marc Webb, have been found. Normally a logo isn't that exciting, but I thought this was worth featuring because if you look closely at the poster, you'll notice some scales (hinting at the villain The Lizard) as well as a faint red and blue color, and maybe a face, which is actually pretty cool. There you go - your new iPhone background or wallpaper. Enjoy!

Must Watch: 'Conan O'Brien Can't Stop' Documentary Official Trailer

Conan O'Brien Can't Stop Trailer

"A peek behind Conan's psychological curtain." Great quote. The official trailer for the Conan O'Brien documentary titled Conan O'Brien Can't Stop was recently debuted on Apple, and if you're into Conan, it's a must watch. The doc provides an "intimate portrait of an artist trained in improvisation, captured at the most improvisational time of his career" and the trailer really sells it well, as it looks great. This first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in March to much acclaim. I'm a big Conan fan and I need to see this, it really does look fantastic, can't wait! As always, we highly suggest checking this trailer out. Watch below!
