Check This Out: New Poster + Photos from Vigalondo's 'Extraterrestre'

Nacho Vigalondo's Extraterrestre

Oh this seems to be the year of sci-fi, with the likes of Green Lantern and Super 8 about to be unleashed. Another indie sci-fi flick we've been keeping an eye on is Extraterrestre, the latest film from Spanish comedian-actor-director mastermind Nacho Vigalondo, who was recently announced as director of Mark Millar's Supercrooks. We featured some fun teaser posters for this last year, but over the weekend some new photos and an impressive official teaser poster were debuted via Bloody-Disgusting. This looks pretty good, I can't wait to find out when we'll actually get see it - I'm assuming it will premiere at Fantastic Fest this fall.

Must Watch: One More Fantastic Theatrical Trailer for 'Green Lantern'

Green Lantern

We've already established that the first lengthy trailer for Green Lantern failed to impress many people. However, ever since then, the WonderCon footage, extended TV spot, and theatrical trailer have all restored my faith and excitement in this DC Comics adaptation. However, I think the biggest problem is still getting audiences interested in a hero with so much mythology who isn't very well known outside of comic book geek circles. Thankfully, for those who don't know very much about Green Lantern, the powerful ring and all the cosmic elements of the story, this trailer lays it all out almost as a short prologue. Watch it below!

'The Dark Knight Rises' Adds Matthew Modine and Tom Conti to Cast

Tom Conti / Matthew Modine

Well, earlier today The Dark Knight Rises opened up their viral gates with the launching of the official website for the film, and the first official look at Tom Hardy as Bane (seriously, he just looks so hardcore). The excitement has died down a bit, but two more actors have joined the cast, even as production is already underway across the world. Variety says Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, "Weeds") and Tom Conti (Derailed, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence) have both joined the cast in unknown roles. They're certainly strange additions to an impressive cast, but I doubt their roles will be major in the grand scheme of things.

Darren Aronofsky Being Courted to Direct 'Maleficent' and 'Moses'?

Moses / Aronofsky / Maleficent

Since the director unfortunately had to leave the director's chair for the spin-off sequel The Wolverine, we've recently heard that Darren Aronofsky might end up directing George Clooney in a sci-fi film called Human Nature that's been gestating for about 15 years. While we have no word on whether or not he will actually end up directing that film, it appears two more projects are vying for Aronofsky's talents. Badass Digest has heard from inside sources that Disney is looking to have the Black Swan director take over their Maleficent film (which just lost Tim Burton as director) while Warner Bros wants him for a Moses movie.

Tom Cruise Confirmed for Universal's $100 Million Sci-Fi 'Horizons'

Tom Cruise / Horizons

After backing out of Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness with Tom Cruise attached, you would think Universal Pictures would be leery of another big budget film with the same star, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Deadline reports Cruise is now officially confirmed to star in Joseph Kosinski's Horizons, the project formerly known as Oblivion which is an adaptation of the director's comic book of the same name. We heard Cruise was attached to the project when Universal picked it up last month, but we weren't holding our breath for it to actually happen. Now we're happy it's coming together.

Must Watch: Explosive New 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' Trailer

Transformers: Dark of Moon

You may lose your faith in us. But never in yourselves. From here, the fight will be on your own. When the last trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon hit, I have to admit that I was pretty much blown away. All the action looks impressive as hell, and I think this has the potential to be the best of the series (I actually wish this whole cover-up for the space race was part of the first film). Now we have another brand new trailer for the summer blockbuster sequel, and I'm even more pumped to see this in theaters. There's plenty of great shots of Chicago getting decimated, and a final shot of Optimus Prime that's just fantastic.

'Showrunners' Trailer Goes Behind the Scenes of Running a TV Show

Showrunners

While we're content with staying within the realm of strictly movie news, there's always something exciting happening on the small screen too. Obviously we've highlighted shows like The Walking Dead, and other items from series gaining a lot of buzz, but those instances are few and far between. But as a big fan of alot of work being done in television right now, I'm excited to highlight this trailer for a new documentary called Showrunners, which goes behind the scenes of several different TV series, and talks the minds like Damon Lindelof from "Lost" and David Shore from "House M.D." about what it's like to run a TV series.

Watch: How Pitch Meetings Actually Work at Jerry Bruckheimer Films

Jerry Bruckheimer Films

Good morning, Jerry Bruckheimer. While his production company has been behind some fun and memorable films like Remember the Titans and Armageddon, lately Jerry Bruckheimer and his production banner haven't been so hot. Films like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time just bored the hell out of me, and if Jeremy's review or the Rotten Tomatoes score is any indicator, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides doesn't seem to be a home run. Well, now we may know why the company can't see to stand upright nowadays as a video from inside the production company has revealed just how pitch meetings actually work. See it below!

MGM and Screen Gems Hire Writer for Remake of Horror Film 'Carrie'

Carrie

It seems like the barrage of remakes will never end as today brings news of yet another revision of a decades-old film. Deadline has word that MGM and Screen Gems have hired Robert Aguirre-Sacasa, the writer who was recently brought on board the Spider-Man: Turn of the Dark Broadway musical, to script a remake of the 1976 horror classic Carrie starring Sissy Spacek. The original film, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, followed a telekinetic teenager who gets pushed too far at the prom and wreaks havoc on her fellow high school students. Maybe she can wreak havoc on Hollywood instead to stop all these remakes?

Cannes 2011 Review: Nicolas Winding Refn's Badass New Film 'Drive'

Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive

Any cinephile knows it's rare to come across a film so incredible that they would happily watch it again immediately after seeing it for the first time, not to mention endless times over again on DVD. But I will thankfully say that Drive is one of those rare films, which I was lucky enough to catch as my final film in Cannes. Drive is the latest collaboration between actor Ryan Gosling and Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn, that not only played in competition at Cannes (an impressive feat), but is one of the few films I could potentially call flawless. It is indeed that good and I do want to see it again immediately.
