Cannes 2011 Review: Pedro Almodóvar's Brilliant 'The Skin I Live In'
I love when great films surprise me. Both in terms of story and in terms of my expectations. I had no clue what to expect with Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar's latest film La piel que habito, which roughly translates to The Skin I Live In (weird teasers didn't help either), but hot damn was this fantastic. Pedro is a Cannes Film Festival regular but has delivered a film this year that is completely different from most of his previous work yet still kicks ass. It was a wild and crazy experience, to be frank, but damn good. In fact, I'll even call it a brilliant film for the story and its ideas and the way Almodovar challenges sexuality.

Michael Bay & James Cameron Talk 3D Over 'Transformers 3' Footage
On Wednesday this week, I attended a special preview at Paramount Studios in Hollywood of one of this summer's most anticipated blockbusters: Transformers: The Dark of the Moon (which was moved up to June 29th), where select scenes and sequences were showcased from this third installment in the live action Transformer movie saga -- the first ever 3D movie venture for Hasbro and Paramount's Transformers franchise. Not only that, but director Michael Bay was on hand to talk about the footage and was joined by none other than James Cameron for a discussion on all things 3D and giant effin' robots.

Review: Disney's 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' Just a Lame Cash Grab
When did the Pirates of the Caribbean movies become so convoluted? It was a shock in 2003 when Curse of the Black Pearl came out and wasn't awful. In fact, it was an adventurous, exciting time at the movies that played above and beyond the cash grab idea of Disney turning a theme park ride into a feature film. Then Dead Man's Chest provided the stuffing for that perfectly baked goose. Even still, the balance between grand imagery, exciting battles, and expansive story-telling was in check. It wasn't until At World's End that it all seemed to be out of control. Now, with the fourth and latest film of the franchise

Watch: Jim Carrey in the Full Theatrical 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' Trailer
"Mr. Popper, gimme the birds." Apparently S.H.E.L.D. wants to collect penguins, too? Fox has debuted the full theatrical trailer on MSN for Mr. Popper's Penguins, their upcoming summer comedy starring Jim Carrey and a whole boatload of cute, lovable penguins. This trailer is similar to the international one we featured last month, but obviously spends more time exploring the story and introducing more characters, like the villain zookeeper played by Clark Gregg (aka Agent Coulson) and his family, played by Carla Gugino and Madeline Carroll. This really does look like a fun summer flick, I'm planning on seeing it. Enjoy!

Adam McKay Details 'Turkey Bowl' and Alec Baldwin Joining the Cast
Earlier this week we learned about a new comedy that would reunite The Other Guys stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. At the time we heard the film was called Turkey Bowl, but producer Adam McKay (who directed the aforementioned action comedy) says that an independent film just got picked up with the same title, and their new working title for the film is Three Mississippi. In addition, McKay had plenty more details to reveal to EW including Alec Baldwin joining the cast of the story about football-obsessed towns who lead rival teams in an annual tackle football game for bragging and trash-talking rights.

Holly Hunter Lands Roles in Both 'Still I Rise' and 'Romeo and Juliet'
Though the past few years she's been caught up in the television show "Saving Grace" (which got her a couple Emmy nominations) actress Holly Hunter has turned in some fine work in films like The Incredibles, O Brother Where Art Thou and especially Broadcast News. Now Deadline reports Hunter has just landed two films roles which will mark her first turn on the big screen since 2005's The Big White. The first will have Hunter joining Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenaal in Still I Rise, a project we heard about in a recent Casting Tidbits. The second will see Hunter starring in a new version of Romeo and Juliet alongside Hailee Steinfeld.

All Arnold Schwarzenegger Projects Are Delayed Until Further Notice
In the past couple months we've heard about a few projects for Arnold Schwarzenegger to make his triumphant return to acting. However, this week, the actor's life took an unfortunate turn as it was revealed that he had a love child with his family's nanny, and has since separated from his wife Maria Shriver. While we normally don't care about gossip matters like this, the issues stemming from this revelation have spilled into the movie news realm as an announcement was made stating that Schwarzenegger will be focusing on these personal matters and unable to commit to any production schedules at this time.

Three New Posters Show the Sleazy, Psycho, Crazed 'Horrible Bosses'
We've already gotten a look at the hilarious first trailer for the summer comedy Horrible Bosses, and now we have a new set of posters highlighting each of the terrible supervisors and the employees that they terrorize. There's Jason Bateman paired up with the slave-driving psycho Kevin Spacey, with Jason Sudeikis pulling his hair out over his sleazy, tool boss Colin Farrell, and Charlie Day worried about his sex-crazed maneating boss Jennifer Aniston (though I'm not sure why that's a big problem). Honestly, this movie looks like it's going to be absolutely hilarious, and these posters are pretty fun. See them below!

'Timecrimes' Director Adapting Mark Millar's Comic Book 'Supercrooks'
The adaptation of his comic book Kick-Ass was definitely a highlight of 2010, and now it looks like another adaptation or one of Mark Millar's comic books will be heading to the big screen. Bleeding Cool reports Timecrimes director Nacho Vigalondo will be at the helm of an adaptation of the forthcoming comic book Supercrooks from Marvel Icon. The story apparently follows a bunch of retired supervillains from England who are hiding out on the Spanish coast, free from extradition, being called out to do one last job. Essentially, it's being described as Ocean's Eleven meets X-Men, and that just sounds like a fantastic blend.

Vin Diesel Will Become 'The Machine' for New Family Action Comedy
Though he's more well known for his work in The Fast and Furious franchise, let's not forget (not matter how much we might like to) that Vin Diesel also dabbled in family comedy with The Pacifier. Now it sounds like he will be returning to that arena as The Wrap reports that Diesel is set to produce and star in The Machine. The story has Diesel as a human-like machine that the Pentagon created as the ultimate weapon. But 20 years later, after the project has been shut down, a young boy discovers and befriends this machine. When the government learns of the machine's return, you know what will happen next.

'The Dark Knight Rises' Begins Production and Will Have More IMAX
Over the last few months we've heard about the spectacular cast coming together for The Dark Knight Rises including returning cast members like Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and even Nestor Carbonell. In addition, new cast members like Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have all joined the anticipated sequel, though we're not quite sure how they're characters fit into the story which is being kept under wraps. Well, we may know more soon enough as Warner Bros. has announced the start of principal photography on Christopher Nolan's last Batman film.
