Joel Silver Turning Cartoon Network's 'Ben 10' into Live-Action Movie

Ben 10

After bringing such big franchises as Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, The Matrix, and the most recent version of Sherlock Holmes to the big screen, super producer Joel Silver and his Silver Pictures banner will next bring something to the big screen for kids. Cartoon Network and Silver Pictures have just announced a deal for a live-action movie that's being adapted from the animated action-adventure series Ben 10. The series, which has been running since January of 2006, follows young Ben Tennyson who discovers a strange wrist watch that allows him to transforms into 10 different aliens with super powers. Every kids dream, right?

Christian Bale May Be Building an Ark in Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah'

Noah / Christian Bale

Last week we learned that director Darren Aronofsky was finally getting around to figuring out his next project after sadly backing out of directing The Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman. Thankfully, the project is Noah, a new take on the story of Noah's Ark which the director has been developing for awhile. Aronofsky has been shopping the project around town with hopes of gathering $130 million to get the project off the ground. Sounds like a difficult prospect, but now Vulture reports the director is in talks with Christian Bale to play the titular character, so that should make rounding up money a little easier.

T.J. Miller to Lead 'Hangover' Writer's Directing Debut 'Road to Nardo'

T.J. Miller

After writing raunchy comedies such as Road Trip, Old School, Semi-Pro and most recently The Hangover Part II, writer Scot Armstrong is now ready to make his directorial debut with another comedy. THR reports the scribe will be at the helm of Road to Nardo, a comedy about two roommates who go to great and dangerous lengths to save their friend Nardo, who is naked and stranded in Mexico. Sounds like The Hangover meets Road Trip to be honest, but what has me interested in this movie is the casting of T.J. Miller, a fantastic comedian and actor who has been begging to have a lead comedy role like this.

'Chronicles of Narnia' Director to Adapt 'Beasts of Burden' Comic Book

Beasts of Burden

The filmmaker has already brought books to life in the form of film  adaptations of Shrek and the first two installments of The Chronicles of Narnia franchise, but now director Andrew Adamson is taking a comic book to the big screen. Heat Vision reports the filmmaker is set to produce an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic Beasts of Burden, a series set in the community of Burden Hill where a series of supernatural events occur, causing a gang of dogs (and one cat) to team up in order to keep their owners and the town’s residents safe. Basically it's like Homeward Bound, or any animal centric film, but with a horror twist.

Could a 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' Sequel Actually Get Off the Ground?

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

In case you were unaware, back in 2007, there were rumblings of a script for a sequel to the classic 1986 comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off from the late, great writer and director John Hughes. Relatively unknown screenwriter Rick Rapier was behind the script, titled Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off, which sees everyone's favorite high school hot shot coming up on his 40th birthday in the midst of success as a motivational speaker by way of his "Life Moves Pretty Fast" credo. With his friend Cameron at his side managing the business, all hell breaks loose when Ferris decides he wants just one more day off.

'Chicago Code' Star Jason Clarke Joins Baz Luhrmann's 'Great Gatsby'

Great Gatsby / Jason Clarke

With a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher and Joel Edgerton, it's hard to think that the cast of Baz Lurhmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby could get any better. However, with plenty of free time following the tragic cancellation of the fantastic crime drama series "The Chicago Code," THR reports star Jason Clarke has also signed on to star in the film. Though he put on a hell of a Chicago accent while on the one-season run of the stellar police drama, Clarke actually hails from Australia, so it's no surprise that Luhrmann, being a filmmaker from Down Under, wanted Clarke involved.

Tom Cruise in Talks to Star in 'One Shot' for Christopher McQuarrie

Tom Cruise

We already know the actor has committed to star in Universal's big budget sci-fi project Horizons (the project formerly known as Oblivion from Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski), but Tom Cruise might get another project off the ground before then. Deadline reports Cruise is negotiating with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions to star in One Shot, an adaptation of Lee Child's novel of the same name which features the author's recurring character, former military policeman-turned drifter Jack Reacher. Some fans may be scratching their heads at Cruise's potential casting. Find out why below!

Cate's Review: Woody Allen's 'Midnight in Paris' is a Whimsical Trip

Midnight in Paris Review

I have never been to France, but after seeing Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, I feel like I've walked the cobblestone streets and fallen in love with old Pairee. Even from my squeaky view in a cold, cramped movie theater I was swept up by the whirlwind of Edith Piaf's crackling tunes and postcard shots of the world's most romantic city. Allen's script about an engaged couple accompanying the bride-to-be's parents on a trip to Paris is charming, funny, honest, and most importantly playful. But I will make one suggestion for those interested in seeing Midnight in Paris—don't read any reviews about the film! (Except this one of course.)

Comic-Con 2011: Hints at 'Spider-Man', 'Twilight' & 'Cowboys & Aliens'

Comic-Con

We're now 37 days until Comic-Con 2011 kicks off down in sunny San Diego this July. As many readers know, Comic-Con is one of my favorite times of the year, as I pretty much go crazy with excitement covering all of the presentations for five days straight. The official schedule should be announced next week, but in the meantime, we've been starting to hear some buzz about what to expect and it's looking both good and bad. Given that 2012 is a pretty big year for fanboy movies, we can expect big ones like The Amazing Spider-Man, but a recent NY Times article about marketing claims some studios are staying away entirely.

Kick the Tires and Light the Fires - FirstShowing.net is 5 Years Old!

5th Birthday - FirstShowing.net

It's almost hard for me to believe that its been this long, but it is indeed true, this month marks the 5 year anniversary of FirstShowing.net, a website I started with my friend Josh out of a love for movies in hopes of spreading and sharing that love. Our first post was written on June 3rd, 2006, aptly announcing the sale of tickets for Superman Returns and Cars that summer. Now we're two weeks from seeing Pixar's Cars 2, so we've nearly come full circle. I'm happy to say that I'm still here, still in love with movies, and still proud of this website and the opportunity I have to share the cinematic experience with fans and friends worldwide.

Watch: First Teaser Trailer for Disney's 'Planes', A New 'Cars' Spin-Off

Pixar's Planes

Cool! Disney has launched the first teaser trailer for Planes, their upcoming Cars spin-off focusing on the planes from that world. This isn't another full Pixar film or even a short film, instead it's a straight-to-DVD spin-off for Disney to sell to younger audiences, as young kids totally love the Cars universe. The trailer officially debuted in high def on YouTube, as found by SlashFilm. It's Pixar once again and we can never see enough Pixar, so even if you're not a big fan of Cars, give it a shot anyway, as this does look pretty "cool." Though if you do like it, we have a long wait, as this isn't scheduled to hit DVD until Spring of 2013. Enjoy!

Even More Gritty, New 'Deathly Hallows: Part 2' Posters & Banners

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

I really love how simple the tagline is: It All Ends. Yes it frickin' does! Although I feel like we've become nothing but a poster repository for each and every new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 poster debuts every day, I can't help it, as this stuff looks fantastic and I'm getting more excited by the minute. Entertainment Weekly debuted yet another "final" poster that includes Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter front and center, and Emma Watson as Hermione and Rupert Grint as Ron flanking him on either side. I've added two other banners that popped up on Brazilian site Oclumência, as they're both pretty cool.
