Ben Stiller Now Also Directing 'Secret Life of Walter Mitty' Adaptation

Secret Life of Walter Mitty / Ben Stiller

Though the project has been gestating for over a decade, the last we heard on the new adaptation of James Thurber's classic short story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty had Ben Stiller in talks to take the title role in the film. A new script from The Pursuit of Happyness writer Steve Conrad apparently caught Stiller's attention, but a director was still being sought to take on the project. Well, now Twitch reports in addition to starring in the film, Stiller will now sit in the director's chair as well. This comes after filmmakers like Steven Spielberg and most recently Gore Verbinski had previously been mentioned as potential directors.

Ron Howard & Dustin Lance Black Go 'Under the Banner of Heaven'

Under the Banner of Heaven / Ron Howard

Since plans for the ambitious and unprecedented adaptation of The Dark Tower sadly crumbled at Universal yesterday, director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer seem to be filling up their future slate with other projects. We already know Howard is taking on Rush, and he's also attached to a Spy vs. Spy movie that will come together sometime down the road, but another new project has just entered the mix as well. Deadline reports Warner Bros. has tapped Howard to direct an adaptation of Jon Krakauer's book Under the Banner of Heaven with Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black set to script the film.

First Badass Art in San Diego for 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance'!

He Rides Again

He Rides Again. Don't forget that another big comic book movie rolling out the red carpet at Comic-Con is Sony's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the return of Nicolas Cage as Marvel's Ghost Rider, this time left in the care of the directors of Crank/Crank: High Voltage - Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor. Ever since we heard that they got the greenlight to make their own balls-to-the-wall Ghost Rider movie, I had a feeling it would turn out badass, and if the early marketing artwork for it is any indication, this might be one of the surprise hits of Comic-Con. Two posters were found on display in San Diego that you must see.

GK Films is Developing a Brand New, Epic 'Spartacus' Feature Film

Spartacus

Move aside "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", it's time for a real Spartacus movie. Graham King's GK Films has announced via Twitter/Variety that they're developing a new feature film called Spartacus, that will focus "on the rebel leader who took on the Roman Empire for 2 years." It will throw out all the other fictional storylines (*ahem* Starz) and "rely instead on more historic facts of Spartacus as a revolutionary." The project is actually on a pitch they acquired from 300 co-writer Michael B. Gordon (also credited for the G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra story). However, no director is attached and the project is developing in the early stages.

Shia LaBeouf Cast in Robert Redford's Film 'The Company You Keep'

Shia LaBeouf & Robert Redford

So Robert Redford is a fan of Shia LaBeouf, too. It was announced by Voltage Pictures and Wildwood Enterprises (via Deadline) that Shia LaBeouf will be co-starring with Robert Redford in the political action thriller The Company You Keep, which Redford will direct from a script by Lem Dobbs (Haywire, The Limey, Dark City), based on the novel by Neil Gordon. The project is already in pre-production and is set to film in Vancouver in September. "It is absolutely amazing to have Shia LaBeouf, arguably the brightest young star in Hollywood today paired with the global icon Robert Redford," said Voltage's Nicolas Chartier.

More Badass Concept Art for Vin Diesel's Upcoming 'Riddick' Sequel

The Chronicles of Riddick

Whoa! Vin Diesel just wrote a thank you message on his Facebook (via BD) to all those who wished him a Happy Birthday, and decided to give a gift back to his fans. He's posted another new badass piece of concept art for Riddick 3, the untitled upcoming Chronicles of Riddick sequel, which sounds like might actually be happening. I'm surprised Universal is still giving this the go-ahead, yet killed off The Dark Tower, but I should hold my tongue as I want to see this get made cause it looks badass! It's fresh concept art dated a few weeks ago straight from director David Twohy showing Riddick and his new dog/beast friend. Check it out!

Watch: First Great TV Spot for Brad Pitt & Bennett Miller's 'Moneyball'

Moneyball TV Spot

With the baseball season in full swing, there's no better time to start dropping some hints during the commercials about Columbia's upcoming adaptation of Moneyball, starring Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman. We featured the impressive first trailer for this baseball drama back in June, and I'm now very much looking forward to it, which is why I couldn't pass up mentioning this first TV spot (from TheMovieBox via The Playlist), since it's damn good, too. I just love the tone of this, it looks so good, I love the music, I love the casting, I'm considerably excited for this (probably more than I should be). Enjoy!

Check This Out: Fiery Motion Poster for 'Hunger Games' Materializes

The Hunger Games

May the odds be ever in your favor. Lionsgate has unleashed a pretty kick ass new motion poster for The Hunger Games adaptation in the works, starring Jennifer Lawrence & Josh Hutcherson, directed by Gary Ross. We got a first look reveal at Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen on an EW cover a few months ago, but we still haven't seen a trailer, although I have a feeling this is a sign of things soon to come. Yahoo revealed the new motion poster, which features Katniss' iconic mockingjay pin materializing out of fire. It's pretty cool to watch, though it doesn't show us anything new yet. I also like the little bit of music they used for it.

Cartoon Network is Developing a Live-Action 'Captain Planet' Movie

Captain Planet

It sounds like the powers of wind, water, fire, Earth and heart have finally come together in Hollywood as Cartoon Network and Transformers franchise producer Don Murphy and his Angry Filmworks production banner have announced development of a live-action feature film adaptation of the environmentally sound 90's cartoon series Captain Planet. Why is now the right time for the mullet-sporting hero to make a return? Producer Susan Montford says, "With the earthquakes, tornadoes, melting icebergs and all the other problems threatening the world right now, Earth really needs her greatest defender." Read on!

Coded First Poster for British Spy Thriller 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Not too long ago the first trailer hit for Tomas Alfredson's adaptation of the 1979 miniseries Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and it looks like quite a fantastic spy thriller from across the pond. Now we have this cool first poster for the film featuring a pseudo-mosaic of Gary Oldman made up of words and numbers with the release date popping out right there in red. However, I think it's the names at the bottom of the poster that will get people's attention with an amazing cast that includes Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Ciaran Hinds, Jared Harris, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong and more. See the poster below!

Casting Tidbits: Dennis Quaid, Sam Rockwell, & Christina Hendricks

Quaid / Rockwell / Hendricks

Off the top of my head, I'd say you're looking at a Boeski, a Jim Brown, a Miss Daisy, two Jethros and a Leon Spinks, not to mention the biggest Casting Tidbits ever. First up, Lionsgate has added yet another name to their pregnancy-based ensemble romantic comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting. Actor Dennis Quaid is the latest talent to join the project and he'll play husband to Brooklyn Decker's character who is expecting twins. In addition, Quaid is apparently hellbent on on-upping his son who is also expecting a child. He joins an all-star cast that  includes Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez and more.
