Another Image of Karl Urban Suited Up to Deliver Justice as 'Dredd'

Dredd

We've already gotten a bit of a fuzzy look at Karl Urban decked out in full wardrobe for Dredd, and an even less official look at his lawmaster bike that will definitely see some action in the flick. Now another image of Urban suited up to deliver justice, and while it's still not a perfect shot of our hero, it's still another look at what should be an interesting adaptation of the comic. With these photos surfacing, I'm wondering why we're not getting a glimpse at the film at Comic-Con this year. That'd be a nice surprise for fans. But for now, this is as good as it gets, and we're stuck waiting for the first footage of Urban kicking ass as Dredd.

Rhys Ifans Joins the Cast of Sam Mendes' Upcoming 'James Bond 23'

Rhys Ifans

More casting news for MGM's upcoming Bond 23, being directed by Sam Mendes. It was confirmed a few weeks ago that Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris and Ralph Fiennes were all officially cast in the new Bond film, now we also know that Welsh actor Rhys Ifans is joining. The news comes from The Telegraph (via Bleeding Cool) where they confirm: "Ifans will appear in the film, as well as Javier Bardem, who will play the baddie." They also add, "much of the filming will take place in South Africa." Unfortunately no details on who he'll play. Maybe a henchman? Either way, I'm extremely excited that a new Bond flick is in the works.

Worth Watching: Trailer for French Dystopian Sci-Fi Film 'Carre Blanc'

Carre Blanc Trailer

How about a dose of dystopian sci-fi to start your week? Twitch has posted a very mesmerizing trailer for a French sci-fi film called Carré Blanc from filmmaker Jean-Baptiste Léonetti. It looks incredibly weird and twisted, but Twitch has seen it and has great things to say. Here's how they describe the film: "Carre Blanc is a near future arthouse science fiction picture that fuses the dark absurdism of Franz Kafka with the icily precise visuals of a Tarkovsky, the picture is a slyly hilarious commentary on capitalism gone badly wrong." Unfortunately it's in French without any subtitles, but it still looks great and intrigues me anyway.

'Deathly Hallows: Part 2' Breaks Opening Weekend Record at $168.5M

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Another record breaking weekend for Warner Bros. It has been confirmed by THR/indieWIRE that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has broken the highest opening weekend record set by The Dark Knight with a total of $168.55 million this weekend. The previous total set by TDK was $158.4M back in 2008 (full chart), but WB is again going to smash through both of these records next year when The Dark Knight Rises hits on July 20th, 2012, I'm pretty sure of that. Deathly Hallows: Part 2, as expected with record breaking theater counts, also earned the most money at midnight out of any release at $43.5M.

Indie Trailer Sunday: William Shatner's 'The Captains' Documentary

The Captains Trailer

"Hey Captain Spock!" I thought it would only be fitting considering this week is Comic-Con that I feature a rather geeky trailer (via Collider/YouTube) for an indie documentary premiering on EPIX. It's called The Captains and it is indeed directed by William Shatner and it looks at the various actors who have played Captains in the Star Trek franchise - from Chris Pine to Scott Bakula to Patrick Stewart, and of course Shatner himself. It looks fun and funny, and honestly, I do want to watch this (but I'll be at Comic-Con all week!). It's premiering online and at the Con, so you can catch it anywhere. Here's one of the trailers for it.

Noam Murro to Direct WB's Xerxes Spin-Off '300: Battle of Artemisia'

Xerxes

Though we reported previously that directors like Guy Ritchie had been offered the chance to take on this project, THR is now saying it's Noam Murro who will be getting the offer this week to direct Xerxes, the upcoming spin-off from Zack Snyder's 300. Murro is an Israeli director whose feature debut was the indie Smart People, however he's already attached to direct Die Hard 5, when/if that ever happens. Additionally, the project has been retitled from Xerxes (the original Frank Miller graphic novel title) to 300: Battle of Artemisia, to connect it more with the first movie. The aim is to shoot Artemisia in a similar style as 300.

Watch: Another Quick New Red Band 'Conan the Barbarian' TV Trailer

Conan the Barbarian TV Trailer

"Barbarian!" "I want your head!" Yes, we've seen quite a bit from this already, but how about another quick 30 seconds of "ultra-violent" carnage from Conan the Barbarian? The new red band TV spot popped up on the official UK Facebook page for Marcus Nispel's Conan the Barbarian, starring Jason Momoa as Conan and, featured heavily in this, Stephen Lang as the badass villain Khalar Zym. It does feature quite a bit of blood and gore, which is awesome, because I think this looks like a bloody good time. If you've been waiting to see some violence from this, then watch this, it'll definitely up your daily beheading quota. Enjoy!

Sean Bean Cast as the King in Tarsem's Upcoming 'Snow White' Movie

Sean Bean

Though he didn't get an Emmy nom, at least he booked a good role in another movie. THR/Variety report that Sean Bean, currently seen on HBO's "Game of Thrones", is now in final negotiations to join the cast of Tarsem's The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. The project is already shooting with Julia Roberts playing the evil queen and Lily Collins playing her step-daughter, both of whom vie for the affection of the prince, Armie Hammer. Bean will play the King, Snow White's father, in the film, which is already in production up in Montreal, which is why Tarsem won't be at Comic-Con. At least his cast just got a whole lot more badass.

The film stars Johnny Tri Nguyen and Ngô Thanh Vân, the key part of that being the girl, who kicks as much ass as the guys. "She's forced to recover a stolen hard drive with codes to Vietnam's first satellite in order to save her. The only way to accomplish the top-secret task is to enlist the expertise of several other specialists, including Quan, a mysterious man with whom she becomes romantically involved."
