Watch: Full-Length 'Short History' Video of CG Characters in Movies

Short History of CG Characters in Movies

So when I first read the title for this, I thought "short history", okay great, this should be good. Turns out it's a 20-minute Vimeo and much more of an extensive history of prominent CGI characters in movies, ranging from King Kong of 1933 (yep, they start with that) all the way up to Benjamin Button and Cameron's Avatar. It doesn't include Rise of the Planet of the Apes yet, but with all the great (Oscar) discussion recently about how this performance capture is pushing the boundaries yet again and all of Weta's amazing work in that movie, I thought it fitting to feature this anyway. It's a good watch, even at that length. Enjoy!

Watch: First Ridiculous Trailer for 'A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas'

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

"Who are those guys?" New Line Cinema has debuted the first trailer, via Yahoo, for A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, the third movie in the Harold & Kumar franchise following Escape from Guantanamo Bay in 2008. Kal Penn and John Cho are back once again as our two favorite stoners, and of course Neil Patrick Harris makes an appearance, too. This first trailer is absolutely ridiculous, and absurd, but it couldn't be a more perfect trailer to show in front of 30 Minutes or Less this weekend. The comedy in this looks like the standard Harold & Kumar craziness, but it's all the stupid 3D effects that are putting me off.

Eddie Murphy Going Back to the Sound Booth as 'Hong Kong Phooey'

Hong Kong Phooey / Eddie Murhpy

We haven't heard anything on the project in over two years, but today Alcon Entertainment announced via press release that Eddie Murphy will be lending his voice to the titular character in the live-action/CG hybrid adaptation of Hanna-Barbera's 1970's animated series Hong Kong Phooey. In recent years, when he hasn't been making terrible comedies like Norbit and Meet Dave, the once hilarious comedian has been voicing Donkey in the Shrek franchise. While his voice will certainly will lend the right attitude and style to the character, I can't help but disappointed that films like this are still happening. More below!

Mark Wahlberg Stepping in for Vince Vaughn in '2 Guns' Adaptation

Mark Wahlberg / 2 Guns

Towards the beginning of the year, there were rumblings that David O. Russell might step up to rewrite and direct the gestating adaptation of  Two Guns based on Steven Grant's graphic novel of the same name which Vince Vaughn had been attached to since 2008. Now Heat Vision has word that Mark Wahlberg is entering final negotiations to star in the film. However, you'd think that since Wahlberg and Russell have previously collaborated on The Fighter, I Heart Huckabees and Three Kings, but Russell has stepped away from the project due to scheduling conflicts and Vaughn is no longer attached to star either. Watch: Official Release Trailer for 'Tanner Hall' with Rooney Mara

Tanner Hall Trailer

"My heart only exists within the stone walls of that building." So this charming little indie premiered nearly two years ago at the Toronto Film Fest in 2009. I saw it there, it's not bad, it's a quaint coming-of-age flick, Rooney Mara stars in it and she's great, but that's about it. Well, Anchor Bay Films has held onto it for two years and is just now releasing it. Vulture has debuted a trailer and it seems like they're trying to sell it as a teen romance, but I don't know how well it'll stick. In addition to Mara, from The Social Network & Dragon Tattoo, this also stars Georgia King, Brie Larson and, oddly enough, Chris Kattan in a dramatic role. Enjoy!

First Look Photo: Toms Hanks in 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close'

Tom Hanks in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Oh I'm sure this is going to be the talk of the awards season, but for now here's our first look. As part of Warner Bros' new Fall Preview, a photo from Stephen Daldry's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close adaptation was unveiled. The film stars quite a cast, but focuses on Thomas Horn as Oskar Schell. Tom Hanks plays his father, Sandra Bullock his mother. If you're not familiar, the story is about a nine-year-old boy from Manhattan whose father died on 9/11. Two years later, the boy discovers a key belonging to his father, which sends him on a search through the city. And that's why this is such a touching first look reveal.

New 'Rosemary's Baby'-Esque 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' Poster

We Need to Talk About Kevin Poster

We need to talk... This is a stunning poster, and I'm not even sure if it's real. The Playlist recently revealed that a new poster was out for Lynne Ramsay's We Need to Talk About Kevin, the drama starring Tilda Swinton as the mother of a teenage boy that went on a school killing spree who tries to deal with her grief. We didn't feature the French trailer that recently hit the web for it, as we're waiting for an official one, but this poster is a good sign that this film is a lot darker and scarier than most are probably thinking. This design is pretty much lifted straight from the original Rosemary's Baby 1968 poster, but I still really like it.

Ben Stiller's Red Hour Pooling Big Talent for 'The Fake Trailer Project'

Scorcher VI

Stepping a little bit outside of the realm of movie news, Deadline has word on an intriguing new digital project that will make its way online from Ben Stiller's Red Hour Digital sect of his production company. If you recall, Stiller's comedy Tropic Thunder included fake trailers for films featuring the fictional actors that Robert Downey, Jr., Jack Black and Stiller himself played in the film. Previews for films like Scorcher VI (above) and Satan's Alley (watch the fake trailer right here) were a great opener to the comedy. Now these faux previews  have inspired The Fake Trailer Project, a series of at least 12 trailer parodies.

Watch: Paul Rudd Pitches New Ideas for Marketing 'Our Idiot Brother'

Paul Rudd

By now the marketing is already in full force for the Sundance selected comedy Our Idiot Brother starring the hilarious Paul Rudd. However, apparently the comedy star had some ideas of his own regarding the promotion of his new film, so he went straight to the film's distributor, Harvey Weinstein, to pitch some of these wonderful gems. Obviously every single idea was meticulously crafted as Rudd came up with them while riding the bus and wrote them on a piece of toilet paper. They range from changing the title of the film to interrupting a sex scene in some other movie, but I'll let you see for yourself. Watch below!
