Kurt Russell is Replacing Costner in Tarantino's 'Django Unchained'

Kurt Russell / Tarantino

Now here's some badass casting. Could you ask for a better replacement for Quentin Tarantino's western Django Unchained than Stuntman Mike himself, the one and only Kurt Russell. THR is reporting that Russell is in talks to take on the role of Ace, right hand man of plantation/slave-owner Calvin Candie, the role that Kevin Costner had been cast in but recently dropped out of. Russell will be joining a cast with Leonardo DiCaprio as Candie, the main villain in the American South spaghetti western, plus Jamie Foxx as Django, Sam Jackson, and Christoph Waltz, too. This puts a nice cap on the cast of Tarantino's next classic.

Warner Bros Wants Nolan, Bay, Cuarón, Wyatt for New 'Twilight Zone'

Twilight Zone

We've known for a few years now that another new Twilight Zone movie was in the works, but we didn't know much else besides who was writing. Now Variety is reporting Warner Bros is actively developing the project again and is pursuing a bevy of highly acclaimed filmmakers to direct. While I wish all of them could work on this, only one will, as they also confirm that "this project will feature a single storyline and one director." The top names on the list are: Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay and Alfonso Cuarón. Harry Potter's David Yates was also on there, but he's since backed off of it; there's also one more name in the mix.

'Green Lantern' Writer to Script 'Time Zones' Sci-Fi Flick for Disney

Clock Spiral

After writing one of the most out-of-this-world, cosmic superhero adaptations to date, Green Lantern writer Marc Guggenheim is heading to Disney for some more sci-fi adventure. Heat Vision reports the writer has been hired to script Time Zones which is oddly described as a race against time merged with a race in time concept. What?! Apparently the story takes place after an event that somehow causes the world to spontaneously develop their own “time zones,” described as fractures in space-time which replace various segments of the world with identical geography at those locations from the past and future. Plenty of Rock 'n Roll: Trailer for Indie Comedy 'Catechism Cataclysm'

Catechism Cataclysm Trailer

"When you talked about Judas Priest, that's what made me want to become a Priest!" IFC Films has debuted an official trailer for the indie comedy The Catechism Cataclysm, starring Steve Little as Father Billy who goes on a canoeing adventure with his friend Robbie, Robert Longstreet. I'm not sure if I'd call this a religious comedy, but it looks wacky, and hilarious, with some glimpses of insane moments in the later half. This divinely bizarre tale infuses stories within stories with wild characters until lines between Biblical tales, Mark Twain, and campfire stories are hysterically blurred. Looks funny, and it got solid reviews. Have fun!

Empire's Fantastic New Photo Spreads for Fincher's 'Dragon Tattoo'

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

"This girl isn't a wound - she's scar tissue." One of the many quotes from this piece. If you didn't get enough pink text on the Drive poster, we found more! A few high res scans of Empire magazine's article on David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this month have hit the web and not only do they feature some awesome promo shots in general, but I love the bold pink coloring and overall style with the quotes. Great job, Empire! Not that we haven't seen enough cool imagery and 4-minute trailers already, but I just love seeing edgy photos like this for one of my most anticipated films this winter. 'Warrior' Director Sells Original Script 'The Samurai' to Warner Bros.

Gavin O'Connor

The MMA fighting drama Warrior may not have made a big splash at the box office, but the powerful family drama within a rather formulaic sports story worked surprisingly well on nearly every level and will likely have some Oscar nominations in order for Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte for their fantastic performances, and maybe the film itself. Now director Gavin O'Connor is in the midst if getting his next project together as The Playlist has learned O'Connor and writer Michael J. Wilson (Ice Age, Shark Tale) have sold their spec script The Samurai to Warner Bros. That's a strange pairing of talent. More below!

'Half-Nelson' Directors Looking to Send 'Hate Mail' for Next Project

Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden

The writing/directing team of Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden have gotten plenty of praise despite the lack of a really high profile picture. The duo has been behind Ryan Gosling's fantastic turn in Half-Nelson, as well as the indie Sugar, and most recently went behind the camera for an adaptation of It's Kind of a Funny Story which let Zach Galifianakis step outside of the type casting resulting from his success of The Hangover. Now Variety reports Fleck and Boden have set up their next project with Hate Mail, a drama set up through the same company behind the aforementioned mental hospital comedic drama. More below!

Doug Liman Heading to 'Everest' with Adaptation of 'Paths of Glory'

Paths of Glory / Doug Liman

The director has been said to finally get his gestating sci-fi film Luna off the ground, not to mention being attached to an adaptation of All You Need is Kill, but Doug Liman has yet another project added to his future slate. Deadline reports the director is attached to direct Everest, an adaptation of Jeffrey Archer's book Paths of Glory. The film from Sony Pictures will be a drama about climber George Mallory and his three attempts way back in the early 1920's to become the first man to ever scale Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain. Up in the Air writer Sheldon Turner will adapt the book for the big screen. More below!

Watch: First 'Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project' Doc Trailer

Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project

"This film is... Unauthorized!" Sundance Selects and IFC Films have recently debuted a short official trailer for Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project, the documentary about producer and Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. This played very briefly at TIFF in 2010, but hasn't been seen much since. Thanks to The Film Stage for the tip on the trailer. Unfortunately it doesn't really seem to show much, besides a brief snippet of some of the interviews they do have in it (since Harvey declined) and some of his red carpet appearances, but what else do they have? I want to see more from this! Take a look at the doc trailer below.

'Moneyball' Director Will Team Up with Steve Carell for 'Foxcatcher'

Bennett Miller

His most recent effort in directing Moneyball may have been edged out by The Lion King's theatrical re-release, but that doesn't mean filmmaker Bennett Miller is a slouch behind the camera. Somehow his direction and a script from Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian made baseball statistics interesting, and that's no easy feat. Now Variety reports Miller is attached to direct Foxcatcher, which been in the works for four years, an adaptation of the true story of John du Pont, heir to the chemical company of the same name, who built a wrestling training facility called Team Foxcatcher on his estate and murdered one of the athletes.
