Screen Gems Planning Remake of Indonesian TIFF Winner 'The Raid'

The Raid

It just won the TIFF Midnight Madness Audience Award, is coming out of the fest with some huge buzz, so what do you do next? Fire up a remake, of course! I heard rumors about this during the festival, but now its confirmed, as Heat Vision is reporting that Gareth Evans' Indonesian action movie The Raid is getting a remake from Screen Gems. Sony Pictures acquired the film in Cannes, which means it's likely the deal came with remake rights as well, on top of changes like adding a new score from Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda. These kind of remakes are inevitable, I've heard other TIFF midnight faves are already going that way, too.

Jackie Chan's 1911 Trailer

When an empire is torn between power and corrupt, a revolution begins! Well Go USA and Variance Films have released an official US trailer on Apple, that barely runs a minute long, for 1911, the Chinese historical epic co-directed by Jackie Chan and Li Zhang. The film is a historical epic about "the founding of the Republic of China when nationalist forces led by Sun Yat-sen overthrew the Qing Dynasty" and Jackie Chan also stars as Huang Xing, along with Li Bingbing, Winston Chao, Joan Chen and Jaycee Chan. We've already seen one trailer and this one doesn't feature any dialogue, just scenes, but it looks awesome. Check this out!

Jon Turteltaub to Direct 'Last Vegas' Bachelor Party Script at CBS Films

Jon Turteltaub

Looks like CBS Films wants their own The Hangover. Variety and THR are reporting that filmmaker Jon Turteltaub is now in negotiations to direct the comedy Last Vegas, a CBS Films and Mandate Pictures production. The script was written by Dan Fogleman (Fred Claus, Bolt, Tangled, Cars 2, Crazy Stupid Love, My Mother's Curse) and is more of an old-timers Hangover, about a "quartet of retired boomers who are called upon for a Vegas bachelor party by their friend, a ladies man who is finally settling down and marrying a woman half his age." So it's an old timers bachelor party movie, with Turteltaub at the helm, fun.

John Singleton is Working with Rapper Ice Cube on an N.W.A Biopic

N.W.A.

While doing press for his new film Abduction starring Taylor Lautner, director John Singleton briefly spoke to The Playlist about re-teaming with his his Boyz n the Hood star Ice Cube for a project very close to the rapper-turned-actor's heart; Straight Outta Compton, the long-gestating biopic of the late '80s/early '90s Compton, California-based rap group N.W.A. of which Cube was an original founding member. While Singleton didn't have much to say about the project since it's in the early stages of development, he indicated it has a strong script and that both New Line Cinema and Ice Cube are on board.

Adam Rabalais' Great Posters for 'Inception,' 'Pan's Labyrinth' & More

Adam Rabalais' Pan's Labyrinth Poster

While Hollywood itself delivers some solid posters to promote their films, some of my favorite posters come from artistic fans who post their work online. Recently we've featured such work as some complementary posters for Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises, and now we have a new set of posters for several popular films like Inception, TRON, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and many more. Adam Rabalais is the man behind some simple but fantastic images that I would proudly frame on my wall. And the good news is, all of the posters you'll see below are available for purchase! See the posters below!

Steven Spielberg Dishes Details on 'Lincoln' and the Status of 3D Film

Steven Spielberg

The end of year will be quite busy for Steven Spielberg as both his films The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and War Horse will hit theaters within one week of each other. But the end of 2012 will be equally as exciting as his long-gestating film Lincoln with Daniel Day-Lewis as the 16th President of the United States of America. Spielberg recently spoke to the Orlando Sentinel (via The Film Stage) and he said the film will come out after the 2012 presidential election because he "didn't want it to become political fodder." He also opened up about the time-span in Lincoln's life that his film covers. More below!

Jonah Hill Gets Beat to Hell in the New Red Band Spot for 'The Sitter'

The Sitter Red Band Spot

Complete with a hilarious introduction by a much thinner Jonah Hill than the one who appears in the film, the first red band trailer for The Sitter really delivered the laughs for what promises to be quite a raunchy and entertaining unofficial remake of Adventures in Babysitting. Now we have another red band flavored spot for the film that has Hill getting the crap beat out of him. As the spot says, no kids were harmed in the making of this film, but the sitter got his ass kicked. This feels like yet another 80's style throwback in the same vein as David Gordon Green's Pineapple Express, and that's fine with me. See the new spot below!

'Crazy, Stupid, Love' Directors Back with Steve Carell for New Project

Glenn Ficarra, Steve Carell and John Requa

The writing and directing duo has made a habit out of working with great comedic talent like Jim Carrey and Steve Carell and crafting dynamic films with them like I Love You, Phillip Morris and Crazy, Stupid, Love that contain just the right amount of comedy and drama. Now Glenn Ficarra and John Requa will re-team with Carell on yet another project that sounds like it has the same formula. Moviehole recently spoke with the filmmakers who revealed that they've already written a new untitled script based on an idea that Carell came up with himself. Though the actor won't star in the film he'll still produce. More below.

Sugar Ray Leonard Helps Hugh Jackman Box in 'Real Steel' Featurette

Sugar Ray Leonard and Hugh Jackman

In case you missed this little tidbit of information in my report from the set of Real Steel, iconic boxer Sugar Ray Leonard was brought in to help choreograph the metal-smashing fights between the robots and teach Hugh Jackman some of his moves. A behind-the-scenes crew was around to capture the training between Leonard and Jackman to make his character and the boxing moves and punches he passes on to his robot fighter Atom as genuine and stylish as possible. Bringing in a champion boxer like Leonard for the film should help make the fights pretty damn impressive. Check out the Real Steel featurette below.

Watch: Trailer for 'The Swell Season' Documentary About 'Once' Duo

The Swell Season

After gaining huge buzz at Sundance in 2007, John Carney's lovely romance Once took plenty more film festivals by storm with its simple story of two unnamed musicians who share an intimate friendship through some truly breathtaking music. It was the film's stars Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová who made the film so genuine and brought the music to life so effortlessly as they were already together as the musical duo known as The Swell Season. Now a new documentary chronicling the real-life romance, struggles, success and musical exploits of the duo is on the way, and we have the first lovely trailer for the doc below.
