Toronto Review/Video Blog: Frédéric Jardin's Amazing 'Sleepless Night'
Holy crap the Midnight Madness line-up this year at the Toronto Film Festival is incredible (for the most part)! The other midnight film, besides The Raid, that I caught without knowing what I was about to even see and ended up loving is a French action-thriller called Sleepless Night (or Nuit Blanche in French). It's directed by a filmmaker named Frédéric Jardin and stars up-and-coming actor Tomer Sisley as a cop, but it's one of those surprising "that was AMAZING" discoveries that I cannot wait to tell everyone about. It's an intense, edge-of-your-seat film that mostly takes place inside/around one massive Parisian nightclub.

'Last Exorcism' Director Set to Helm Remake of '13: Game of Death'
His profitable found footage horror film The Last Exorcism already has a sequel in the works, but now director Daniel Stamm is moving onto another horror film in the form of a remake. THR reports the director will be at the helm of an English-language remake of the Thai horror thriller 13: Game of Death. The story follows a financially strapped salesman who receives an anonymous phone call informing him he's on a hidden camera game show, and that if he complete 13 tasks, he will receive a multi-million cash prize. But the tasks escalate to a dangerous and extreme level that bring the salesman to a point of no return.

Watch: Hilarious Extended Reel of More Outtakes from 'Bridesmaids'
Back when the film hit theaters in May, we got a taste of some of the hilarious outtakes that happened on set during filming of the surprisingly successful wedding comedy Bridesmaids from director Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph and Chris O'Dowd along with some scene stealing performances from Jon Hamm and Melissa McCarthy. Now with the DVD/Blu-Ray release next week we have almost ten minutes of new outtakes, and it makes me wish I could've been on set everyday. It's slightly NSFW with some salty language (especially about assholes), but you can check it out below!

Vanessa Hudgens Landing on 'Frozen Ground' with Cage and Cusack
Between her sexy action-packed turn in Sucker Punch and her forthcoming role full of teen angst in Gimme Shelter, actress Vanessa Hudgens is on the fast-track to shed the High School Musical image that launched her careers years back. Now Deadline has word on yet another project continuing that trend as the young actress will join Nicolas Cage and John Cusack in a new dark thriller called Frozen Ground. The film actually seems like an interesting departure for Cusack too who will play Robert Hansen, a respected community man who actually turned out to be Alaska’s most notorious serial predator. More below!

'Sherlock Holmes' Actress Kelly Reilly Will Take 'Flight' with Zemeckis
After hearing in April that director Robert Zemeckis might return to live-action filmmaking, it has since been confirmed that he will indeed direct Flight, a new thriller starring Denzel Washington. The story follows the redemption of “Whip” (Washington), a commercial airline pilot who pulls off a heroic feat of flying in a damaged plane, saving 98 lives on a flight carrying 106 people. However the everyman struggles with this label in the face of an investigation that brings into question his behavior the night before the flight. Now Deadline reports Sherlock Holmes star Kelly Reilly has landed the lead female role in the film.

Four Robot Boxing Contenders Appear in New Posters for 'Real Steel'
Between the teaser trailer, a more impressive full-length theatrical trailer, cool behind-the-scenes featurette, and my visit to the set, the robot boxing flick Real Steel has become one of my more anticipated films of the fall, even if it's not part of the standard push of awards contenders that comes around this season. Now a new batch of posters have surfaced highlighting the metal-smashing fighters of the film including the beefy bot Ambush, the Roman-warrior looking Midas, the Shogun-helmeted Noisy Boy and our hero bot Atom controlled by Hugh Jackman and his son in the film. Check out the robot posters below!

Now 'Top Gun' is Getting Converted to 3D for Theatrical Re-Release
Back in April there were a couple special 25th anniversary screenings of Top Gun so audiences could see Tony Scott's adrenaline fueled film on the big screen all over again (or for the first time). Now audiences will experience the fast-paced dog fights, and aerial battle sequences in a new way as THR reports the 1986 film is being converted to 3D for a theatrical re-release sometime in early 2012. Apparently some footage of the converted film, mainly the impressive jet fighter sequences with Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone rock song, debuted today at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam.

'Intruders' Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Lands 'Highlander' Reboot
His film The Intruders starring Clive Owen is premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival today (stay tuned to Alex's coverage from the festival right here), but Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has just landed a high profile gig to follow his horror thriller. Deadline reports the filmmaker is in talks to helm the reboot of the 1986 sci-fi fantasy film Highlander, a project recently vacated by Fast Five director Justin Lin who will be busy with another installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise and a new Terminator film. Fresnadillo is also attached to direct The Crow, another reboot of previous adaptation.

Veteran Actor and Oscar Winner Cliff Robertson Has Died at Age 88
After a career on film that spans over 50 years and just one day after his 88th birthday, the LA Times reported over the weekend that longtime actor Cliff Robertson had passed away. His longtime personal secretary Evelyn Christel confirmed that Robertson died of natural causes at Stony Brook University Medical Center in New York. Though his most praised role is probably his turn as a mentally disabled bakery janitor in the 1968 film Charly, a performance that snagged the actor the Oscar for Best Actor. However, most of today's audiences know him as Uncle Ben from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films.

Video Blog: Vigalondo's 'Extraterrestre' & Westfeldt's 'Friends with Kids'
As I continue seeing films at the Toronto Film Festival, it's always hard to keep up with written reviews of everything, since I usually see three or four films per day. Instead, I met up with my good friends Jordan Raup of The Film Stage and Peter Sciretta of SlashFilm to record a video blog, right on the street, talking about two films we saw in the last few days. This video includes our thoughts on Nacho Vigalondo's new sci-fi drama Extraterrestre (aka Extraterrestrial) and Jennifer Westfeldt's new indie dramedy Friends with Kids, which is basically an indie version of Friends with Benefits, but with Kids, too. Watch below!

Interview: French Writer/Director Michel Hazanavicius of 'The Artist'
It may seem a bit odd that a B&W silent film titled The Artist (one of my favorite films of the year) about Hollywood's silent film era was actually written & directed by a French filmmaker. Not only that, but it stars two incredible French actors - Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo. After seeing the film, initially at the Cannes Film Festival and again at the Telluride Film Festival, I've come to recognize it's a story where the language (including the filmmaker's) doesn't matter, and that's part of its brilliance. I met writer & director Michel Hazanavicius in Telluride to ask him nearly everything I could about making one of my favorites of 2011.
