Prometheus

While we're still waiting patiently to see a teaser, trailer, poster or any official footage from Ridley Scott's Prometheus, the buzz continues, this time thanks to an interview MTV (via SlashFilm) recently had with writer Damon Lindelof. 20th Century Fox recently released an updated plot synopsis, but details are still very vague on the pseudo-Alien prequel, which was originally said to take place in its own world with a new crew on a spaceship. Lindelof has been playing coy for a while, speaking only briefly about the project since getting attached, but reveals some interesting details about the secrets hidden in the sci-fi movie. Read on!

Fantastic Fest Review: Adam Wingard's Horror Thriller 'You're Next'

Adam Wingard's You're Next Review

Every sub-genre of film, every specific type of story that falls into a much broader category, has to have itself shaken up every once in a while. A movie comes along that follows the tropes, makes it evident where its heart lies, but its mind offers something fresher, more inventive, and an absolute blast. You can take the Adam Wingard-directed You're Next as one of these sub-genre breakers. It looks, acts, and sounds like a home invasion movie, and it really is. But once you watch it, you will realize the level it's working truly at, the self-awareness that Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett are playing around with.

Fantastic Fest Audio Reviews: 'Take Shelter' & Von Trier's 'Melancholia'

Melancholia

Hello again folks! Tim from The Golden Briefcase with a few more audio reviews from Fantastic Fest 2011 in Austin. The last few days have been busy for us but we wanted to bring you some reviews for two films that we feel are thematically linked and deal with similar subject matter. The first is the Michael Shannon film Take Shelter in which Shannon's character has strange dreams of the apocalypse and an extreme paranoia about the safety of his family. The second one we're reviewing is Lars von Trier's Melancholia, a film also dealing with the potential end of the world and the depression of Kirsten Dunst's character.

'Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol' Getting Released Early in IMAX

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

We've got some awesome news about Brad Bird's Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. Hero Complex has revealed that Paramount will be releasing the fourth Mission: Impossible in a small block of IMAX theaters five days early, starting on Friday, December 16th. Regular theaters will later be opening the film starting December 21st, right in time for Christmas week. The release will hit 200 IMAX theaters and is designed to bring back a "level of showmanship" to the opening of a Hollywood film. Brad Bird himself approves of and is actually behind this plan, which sounds amazing because it has scenes shot in IMAX.

Robert Duvall

Last week, we reported that Richard Jenkins would be joining the cast of Christopher McQuarrie's adaptation of One Shot, based on the eponymous 9th novel in Lee Child's series about a small town that witnesses a string of serial sniper murders. Already cast is Tom Cruise as former military policeman-turned drifter Jack Reacher who looks to uncover the conspiracy behind the killings, along with David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike. As if that assembly of talent wasn't enough to peak interest in the film, Variety is reporting that veteran actor Robert Duvall is in final negotiations to join the already impressive cast. Future Looks Bright for Melissa McCarthy with Four New Comedies

Melissa McCarthy

After audiences turned out in surprising numbers for the R-rated wedding comedy Bridesmaids, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who didn't absolutely love every second that Melissa McCarthy was on-screen. Now fresh off of an Emmy win for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on "Mike & Molly," the future looks as bright as ever for the hilarious actress as she has no less than four upcoming comedies that will keep her in the spotlight. We've already heard about one that will re-team her with Bridesmaids director Paul Feig and co-star Jon Hamm, but there are three more in the works as well.

Must Watch: The Creepy Full Length Trailer for 'Paranormal Activity 3'

Paranormal Activity 3

After the success of the found footage horror flick Paranormal Activity, it was pleasantly surprising to see Paramount Pictures pull off a sequel that in some ways was scarier than the first, and still effectively used the same narrative style of the first film. However, with Paranormal Activity 3, the use of amateur home video seems to be a bit of a stretch in this sequel as the two sibling sisters are haunted by the franchise's aggressive demon at a very young age. It still looks to be quite a creepy and chilling movie, but it seems to have lost that genuine, real-life feeling that made the first two films so scary. See for yourself below!

Back in February, there were rumblings that Salt director Philip Noyce would next take on a Black Hawk Down style adaptation of the unpublished novel Firing Point. Going by the title Hunter Killer the big screen adaptation follows an American sub commander and a Navy SEAL team that must rescue the Russian president and defeat a renegade admiral who’s attempting a coup. Horror Master Wes Craven Says 'Scream 5' is Likely Coming Together

Wes Craven

Back in July of 2009, when Scream 4 was only just coming together and rounding up the surviving members of the original cast for a reunion, franchise director and horror master Wes Craven confirmed rumors that the sequel would kick-off a new trilogy. Now with the Blu-ray/DVD release of Scream 4 coming on October 4th, there's no better time for the filmmaker to offer a hopeful update for Scream 5. Speaking with MovieWeb, Craven says, "Yes. The odds are that there will be [another Scream]. It is something that Bob Weinstein wants to do. He tends to do what he wants to do." But will Craven sit in the director's chair again?

Teaser Poster for 'The Lorax' is Really Orange with a Full Mustache

The Lorax

For the most part, the adaptations of Dr. Seuss' classic stories haven't been all that impressive. Most of them depart so far from the original story, that they almost turn into completely different stories. The animated adaptation of Horton Hears a Who! worked better than the live-action, heavy-make-up adaptations like The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, so I have hope for Universal and Ilumination Entertainment (the groups behind Despicable Me) bringing The Lorax to the big screen in animated form. Now we have a simple, very orange teaser poster featuring the titular character right smack in the middle.

Summit Entertainment to Adapt Sci-Fi Comic Book Series 'Area 52'

Area 52

Everyone knows that the mysteries and conspiracies behind Area 51 have been exploited for film and television time and time again. Now it sounds like the new hotness is Area 52, a four-issue comic book series which Deadline reports has just been acquired for a feature film adaptation by Summit Entertainment. While the story still deals with extra-terrestrials, the titular base is located in Antarctica (the exact opposite of the desert location of Area 51) which acts as a government storage dump for otherworldly discoveries, manned by a ragtag group of misfits who have been exiled to the middle of nowhere to staff it.
