Marvel Hiring 'Monster' Director Patty Jenkins to Helm 'Thor' Sequel?
Back in August we learned that Marvel was looking at TV director Brian Kirk, who has helmed various episodes of "Game of Thrones," "Dexter," and "Boardwalk Empire," to sit in the director's chair for Thor 2. Well, now Variety has word that Monster director Patty Jenkins is in early talks helm the sequel after the first film's director Kenneth Branagh opted not to return to the Marvel franchise. Yet again Marvel Studios is bringing in another director without much tentpole or action experience for an anticipated superhero film, and just like Branagh being hired for the first film, Jenkins is quite an interesting choice.

First Look: Johnny Depp and the Cast of Tim Burton's 'Dark Shadows'
While some worrisome spy photos surfaced last week showing Johnny Depp in heavy white make-up, big sunglasses and period clothing for his turn in Tim Burton's big screen adaptation of Dark Shadows, the 1960's gothic daytime serial with vampires, ghosts, ghouls, zombies, werewolves, parallel universes and time-paradoxes. Now in a bit of damage control, the first official image from the film has surfaced featuring Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer and the rest of the cast looking like a new version of The Munsters or The Addams Family, but with a little less darkness. See the photo below!

Watch: 4-Minute Trailer for Fincher's 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'

Time to delve into the world of Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, by way of David Fincher this time in a brand new 4-minute theatrical trailer (via Apple) for his new take on the Swedish mystery/thriller. This is a condensed version of the 8-min promo trailer that played in front of some Sony/Columbia screenings, but gives us a complete idea of the story and how Fincher's take looks and feels different than the original films. Rooney Mara is as the new Lisbeth Salander, Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist, with Christopher Plummer. This looks so damn good!

Watch: First Trailer for Gary Hustwit's New 'Urbanized' Documentary
Urban design is the language of the city. Thanks to a tip from The Playlist, the first official trailer for Gary Hustwit's new documentary Urbanized has been posted. This stylish and inspiring documentary from the director behind design docs Helvetica and Objectified examines ideas about cities and urban design with examples from around the world and interviews with architects, politicians, artists and city planners. This looks like another great film to follow-up Hustwit's past design documentaries. If anything, it'll be inspiring to see all the stunning cities from around the world they visit. I'm definitely planning to see this when I can.

Earlier this month we learned that the long-gestating apocalyptic comedy Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse starring Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel would go before cameras in February with Rogen also working as a co-director with his Superbad and Neighborhood Watch writing partner Evan Goldberg. At the time, Rogen said, "It's now much more than just Jay and Seth -- there's many other people versus the apocalypse now." Universal Developing a New 'Scarface' That's Not a Sequel or Remake
The fact that studios don't have the balls to develop an original story without the help of established brands or intellectual property is maddening. The plots of films like Battleship and Hot Wheels would work fine by themselves without the help of the brands studios are attempting to "adapt" for the big screen. Now Universal is trying the same old schtick with a "new version" of Scarface. The original film was a controversial black and white gangster film in 1932 and would later become the iconic 1983 crime drama starring Al Pacino. This new film will not, however, be a sequel or remake of the two films. More below!

The film stars Rachel Weisz as a London socialite and wife of a British Judge (Russell Beale) who's caught in a self-destructive love affair with a Royal Air Force pilot (Tom Hiddleston). See the short, but promising trailer below!

Teaser Trailer for Joe Carnahan's Thriller 'The Grey' with Liam Neeson
After working together on the summer blockbuster adaptation of The A-Team, director Joe Carnahan and star Liam Neeson decided they wanted to work together on something a little darker and grounded. The result is The Grey, a story of man versus nature where a group of pipeline workers in find themselves hunted by a pack of rogue wolves after their plane crashes in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness. There's some pretty breathtaking visuals to be seen from the real locations used for the film, not to mention some vicious-looking wolves. Jackie Earle Haley Cast as Confederate VP in Spielberg's 'Lincoln' Film
Looks like we have another villain. Steven Spielberg is gearing up to start shooting his legendary Lincoln history project next, which might finally be happening. Deadline now reports that he's cast Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley in the role of Alexander Stephens, the Vice President of the Confederate States during the Civil War and a "nemesis of Lincoln's slavery reform agenda." Haley joins a cast alongside of Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, Sally Field as Mary Todd, with Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. That's a stellar cast, and I'm glad production is almost set to start, as its great we'll finally see this!
