Mondo Mystery Movie IX Recap - 'Dawn of the Dead' in an Empty Mall

Dawn of the Dead

Of the thousands of movies I've seen, the numerous number of times I've seen a film in the theater, this past weekend marked what could go down as the best theatrical cinema experience I've ever had. And it's all thanks to Mondo Tees, the t-shirt and poster leg of the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin, Texas (where I'm now living as of September). The event was the Mondo Mystery Movie IX, the ninth mystery movie of the year for Mondo (Alex also attended the MMM LA events) and what was being touted as their biggest movie event ever. Read on for my full recap and a look at the new Mondo poster debuted that night.

Bill Paxton in Talks to Direct Big Screen Adpatation of 'Kung Fu' Series

After helming a couple decent films like Frailty and The Greatest Game Ever Played, two very different stories, now actor Bill Paxton is returning to the director's chair with a surprising project. Deadline has word that the actor, who has much more free time since completing his turn on the HBO's "Big Love" is now in talks to direct a big screen adaptation of the favorite 70's drama series Kung Fu which originally starred the late David Carradine. Watch: Early Trailer for 'Seven Below' with Val Kilmer & Ving Rhames

Seven Below Trailer

Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you. An early sales promo trailer for Seven Below, a haunted house horror-thriller starring Ving Rhames, Luke Goss and Val Kilmer among others, has debuted via Bloody-Disgusting. This indie horror involves a house where a group of strangers end up together, and history begins to repeat itself, as 100 years before some kid went crazy and killed his whole family. It looks pretty terrible. Between this and Twixt, it's sad to see Val Kilmer ending up in crappy, low budget straight-to-DVD horror, but that's pretty much what this looks like. "This is my sanctuary, your souls belong to me!"

Buscemi, Wilde and James Gandolfini Will Meet 'Burt Wonderstone'

Steve Buscemi

While the comedy Burt Wonderstone already sounds like a blast with Steve Carell playing the titular magician and Jim Carrey playing a rival illusionist. But the cast has gotten even better with news from THR that Steve Buscemi ("Boardwalk Empire") and Olivia Wilde (Tron Legacy) have joined the cast today, and this comes after news surfaced over the weekend from Variety that James Gandolfini has also grabbed a role in the story of a more traditional magic man who is dethroned by a hipper illusionist doing dangerous tricks and breaks up with his partner then must find a way to rediscover his love for magic.

First Look: Bradley Cooper & Zoe Saldana in Writer Drama 'The Words'

Zoe Saldana in The Words border=

Ohhh, the words, how they pain me! Waterfall Media & Benaroya Pictures have released a first look photo from the indie drama The Words, starring Bradley Cooper as a writer who, at the peak of his literary success, discovers the price he must pay for stealing another man's work. The photo features Cooper in the embrace of Zoe Saldana as Dora, not shining much light on the story, but at least the characters. The cast includes Olivia Wilde, Dennis Quaid, Ben Barnes and Jeremy Irons as the man whose work is stolen, but none of them have been seen in this. Take a look at the first photo in full (click for high res) and more below.

Warner Bros. Picks Up 'The Galton Case' for a New Mystery Franchise

Warner Bros / The Galton Case

The late Paul Newman played private detective Lew Archer in Harper and The Drowning Pool from 1966 and 1975 respectively, and now Deadline reports Warner Bros. is looking to revive the character with a new franchise kicking off with an adaptation of Ross Macdonald's novel The Galton Case, the eighth book featuring Archer. Throughout the book series, Archer deals with dangerous cases in Southern California in the 50's and 60's, but it's not yet clear if the potential film series will keep the period locations from when the books were actually written, or if the "elevated noir" story will be updated for contemporary times.

Watch: New 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' Official US Trailer Debuts

We Need to Talk About Kevin Trailer

"He's just a sweet little boy." Oscilloscope Labs has debuted the official US trailer in high def via Apple for Lynne Ramsay's highly acclaimed new film We Need to Talk About Kevin, starring Tilda Swinton as the mother of a deranged boy, played by Ezra Miller (at his oldest point). John C. Reilly also stars in this chilling drama about the parents of a boy who goes on a high school killing. It's one of the darkest and depressing experiences of the year, but is stunning well-made. This is perfect for Halloween, not only with some Halloween footage/imagery tossed in, but also the eerie, unsettling feeling this trailer has. Must see!

Check This Out: 'The Muppets' Wishing Everyone a Happy Halloween

The Muppets - Happy Halloween

Though the entire gang from The Muppets won't hit theaters until just before the November holiday of Thanksgiving, as we wrap up October on Halloween today, a few of our puppet friends have sent a special holiday wish our way. The most recent trailer for the film included parodies of films like Paranormal Activity 3 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part I, but today Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Rizzo the Rat reach back into horror classics to emulate the tale of The Bride of Frankenstein in the form of The Bride of Frog and Swine. Check out the full photo below and enjoy the rest of Halloween!

John Goodman

With an offer currently out to singer-turned-actor Justin Timberlake for a lead role in Joen and Ethan Coen's folk music film Inside Llewyn Davis with Oscar Isaac playing the titular character and Carey Mulligan taking another integral role, the cast is already quite impressive. Now a familiar face to fans of the Coen Brothers' films has joined the mix as Showbiz 411 reports that actor John Goodman, who has starred in the siblings' films such as Raising Arizona, Barton Fink, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Big Lebowski and O, Brother Where Art Thou?, is taking an unknown role in the film set in the folk music scene of the 60's.

Cheesy Scary Photo 'Viral' Website for 'The Woman in Black' Launches

Woman in Black Viral

A new "interactive" website has launched for The Woman in Black, the upcoming period ghost horror starring Daniel Radcliffe. A few weeks ago, with the new TV trailer, CBS Films put out a teaser poster featuring an old time photo with the eyes ripped out. I'm hesitant to call this a viral, because it's hardly close to one at all, but the site replicates that old photo with you, after you see what "they saw", so watch out. I was hoping to actually see a real viral website delving into the background of this ghost, since it's based on a classic story well-known in the UK, alas just another cheesy photo booth. Check this out anyway if you want.
