Sound Off: Matthijs van Heijningen's 'The Thing' - Your Thoughts?
Now that you've seen it, what did you think? The Thing has a long history. Its origins are in John W. Campbell's short story "Who Goes There?"; there's a 1951 adaptation; and there's John Carpenter's beloved cult classic 1982 version. In theaters today is Matthijs van Heijningen's prequel to Carpenter's film, also titled The Thing, telling the story of the Norwegian camp that first discovers a creature from another world in the ice. So how is it? Is it a worthy follow-up to Carpenter's classic? How are the effects? What about the characters and performances? Once you've seen it, leave a comment and tell us your thoughts on The Thing!

Viral 911 Video & Creepy Poster for 'The Devil Inside' Exorcism Horror
No Soul is Safe. Paramount is on a roll with the Paranormal Activity low budget horror franchise, and one of the first follow-up horrors to come from their new low budget Insurge Pictures division is The Devil Inside. With Paranormal 3 hitting theaters in a week, they're launching a tease for this film, including an early look at a creepy poster and a viral 911 call that is the root of the story in this film. I've included both below, with a trailer coming Monday. Fernanda Andrade plays Isabella Rossi, a woman who gets involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms during her mission to Italy to discover what happened to her mother.

Animated 'Starship Troopers: Invasion' Movie Arriving Next Summer
Do we really need another one? Maybe animation will make things better. Sony has announced that they're developing another Starship Troopers sequel, following up two other terrible straight-to-DVD sequels to the 1997 sci-fi military action movie directed by Paul Verhoeven. The new one is titled Starship Troopers: Invasion and will be animated, which isn't the first time in this franchise that has happened - there was as animated series called "Roughnecks" made in 1999 as well. Directing this is Shinji Aramaki, of Appleseed and Appleseed: Ex Machina, as well as a Halo Legends segment previously. This actually sounds awesome.

Fox Picks Up Pinocchio Prequel Spec Script with Shawn Levy Attached
Now, remember, Pinocchio: be a good boy. A prequel? Yes indeed. Deadline reports that Fox has acquired a spec script written by Mike Vukadinovich titled The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto. The project is also being developed by Shawn Levy (of Real Steel, Night at the Museum 1 & 2) at his own company 21 Laps, where he's attached to direct as well. The story is about Geppetto, apparently in some kind of Big Fish or Princess Bride way, that tells of a woodcarver who "endures a life of misfortune, war and adventure, all to be with Julia Moon, his true love." Quite an intriguing take on Pinocchio, but that just sounds like the setup.

In this sequel, Alvin and the gang, including a squad of female 'munks, get lost on an island after jumping ship. Jason Lee is back as their caretaker in what essentially looks like if CGI singing Chipmunks took over the first season of Lost. First Boring Teaser Poster for Fox's 'Three Stooges' Revival Unveiled
Just Say Moe. If only that was the motto the execs took with this to begin with. Not Moe, but just say no, because everything about this movie has that feeling. Fox has released a new teaser image on Facebook (via ComingSoon) for the Farrelly Brothers' upcoming The Three Stooges revival movie, starring a whole new set of Stooges. All it shows is a silhouette of the three, and oddly a cutoff portion of the Fox logo, which makes me wonder how official this really is. But besides those other promo banners from this summer, we haven't seen much of the new Three Stooges yet at all, and its due to be released in only another six months.

Bloody Disgusting Developing 'V/H/S' Horror Project with Six Directors
Is ensemble horror on the rise? There's already that ABC's of Death project, with 25 different directors, in the works, now we've got another unique film that will include six up-and-coming horror directors. The LA Times reports on a new project being developed by Bloody Disgusting, the horror film website, and its owner Brad Miska titled V/H/S, a top secret found footage horror made up of short segments directed by six different directors, lead by Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way to Die and You're Next - seen above) and Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers). It's described as The Shining meets Blair Witch Project.

Review: Universal's 'The Thing' is a Loud Imitation That Doesn't Work
Cheap imitations should all be burned in an icy wasteland. Even expensive looking but soulless knockoffs should feel the flames wrapping around them deep in the Arctic circle. That's precisely what the new version of The Thing is, a flashy retread that looks and feels like a film we've seen before, but it's not. Something is missing. Actually a lot is missing in the movement from John Carpenter's 1982 film - itself an adaptation of John W. Campbell Jr's short story "Who Goes There?" which was adapted once before in 1951 - to this one, a prequel in essence, but one with a new car smell of a big budget remake. What is absent here is swept under a blanket of slick CGI in hopes that the audience, more specifically fans of Carpenter's film, won't notice.

Must Watch: First UK Trailer for Steve McQueen's Sex Drama 'Shame'
Time to get your first look at the film all the critics are talking about. The Guardian has debuted the first UK trailer for Steve McQueen's Shame, his "controversial" but incredibly well-made drama about a sex addict in New York City. Michael Fassbender stars, giving one of the best performances of his life, along with Carey Mulligan as his sister, who shows up at his place throwing his life out of whack. It's one of my favorite films of the year and has been getting unanimous praise from everyone. This trailer does a perfect job capturing the tone of the film and should leave many of you very interested in seeing this. Take a look!

New Full UK Trailer for Daniel Radcliffe's Horror 'The Woman in Black'
"She's always there." A new official UK trailer via MSN has debuted today for The Woman in Black, the period horror-thriller starring Daniel Radcliffe as a young lawyer who gets caught up in a crazy ghost story out on a trip to a remote village. We've already seen a couple of good teaser trailers for this Hammer Film already, and we actually get a full look at the story in this without ruining any of the key plot elements. I also like seeing more of CiarĂ¡n Hinds as "Mr. Daily" in this, great actor and even better knowing he's a part of this. Personally, I think this looks damn good, and very creepy, too. I'm looking forward to seeing it!
