Universal Plans a 'Grim Night' from Spec Script & Cool Teaser Trailer
After delivering the truly disturbing horror thriller The Strangers, director Bryan Bertino is teaming up with his Unbroken Films partner Adrienne Biddle as well as producer Marc Platt (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) to produce an original thriller called Grim Night. The original spec script picked up six figures against seven figures if the film gets made after an impressive teaser trailer (which you can see below) from writers Brandon Bestenheider and Allen Bey helped sell the story. There were six other studios interested in the script, but Universal was the fastest to offer up a deal for what looks to be a promising thriller. More below!

Steve McQueen's 'Shame' is Now Officially Rated NC-17 by the MPAA
Is anyone surprised? The MPAA has officially rated (via RopeofSilicon) Steve McQueen's Shame, the "dark and erotic" New York City sex addict drama starring Michael Fassbender that debuted at the Telluride Film Fest (my review) and was picked up that weekend by Fox Searchlight, as NC-17. Earlier this year, I got in numerous discussions about whether or not the film, filled with full-frontal nudity and sex galore, would actually get an NC-17 or slip by with an R, but as expected, its been giving the "worst of the worst" - NC-17 (no children under 17 admitted at all). But Fox Searchlight is wearing this rating as a badge of honor.

McG Looking to Put Together the Pieces for Summit's 'Puzzle Palace'
Since Joseph McGinty Nichol just doesn't sounds like the name of a high octane action director, that's why we have his alter ego McG to deliver films like Charlie's Angels, Terminator Salvation and occasionally something a more low key like We Are Marshall. Now it sounds like the filmmaker will take on another less over-the-top story as Deadline reports McG is in talks with Summit Entertainment to direct a new cop drama called Puzzle Palace. The pitch was picked up back in March of 2010, and while no story details have been revealed, the script from David Guggenheim grabbed mid-six figures and had multiple bidders.

Universal Looks to Adapt Robert Ludlum Novel 'The Janson Directive'
Though Universal Pictures is already looking to capitalize on their success with the adaptation of Robert Ludlum's series of novels that started with The Bourne Identity by spinning off the series into The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner, the studio is now looking to adapt one of the late author's last novels written before he died in 2001. Deadline has word that Universal, Captivate Entertainment and Ludlum Entertainment are teaming up for an adaptation of The Janson Directive, a story following Paul Janson, an ex-Navy SEAL and former member of the covert government agency Consular Operations. Watch: The Full Theatrical Trailer for the Timely Horror Film '11-11-11'
"And on this day, innocent blood will spill." With the release just over two weeks away, we now have what will likely be the final theatrical trailer (via Yahoo) for the timely horror film 11-11-11 from Mother's Day director Darren Lynn Bousman. Much like the last trailer for the film, it looks like quite an embellished and exaggerated horror venture, almost bordering on the tongue-in-cheek nature of something like Drag Me to Hell. There's clearly a lot of doomsday talk and religious connotations coming from the central terror in the film as a strange gateway is opened that could spell disaster for Earth. See the new trailer below!

David Slade to Direct Adaptation of 'Coward' Crime Noir Graphic Novel
Though the director's adaptation of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse wasn't our cup of tea, David Slade and his take on horror and suspense with films like 30 Days of Night and Hard Candy yielded positive results. Now the filmmaker is set for a new adaptation in the form of a modern crime noir based on the graphic novel Coward, the first in Ed Brubaker's Criminal series which consists of six interconnected stories. Published by Marvel Comics' Icon arm, the story follows Leo, a master thief and heist planner who lives in a world of hustlers, crooked cops, pickpockets and lowlifes. Apparently the sequel is being developed too. More below!

First Look: Teaser Poster 'ParaNorman', Laika's New Stop-Motion Film
"You don't become a hero by being normal." Focus Features and Laika (stop-motion studio behind Corpse Bride and Coraline) have unveiled their first teaser poster on Yahoo for the new stop-motion animation movie ParaNorman, which will also get a first trailer on Friday this week. We'll have to wait until then to really see him, as for now we get a from-the-back first look at Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), a misunderstood boy who can speak with the dead, takes on ghosts, zombies and moronic grown-ups to save his town from a centuries-old curse. Certainly looks like something mysterious is out there. In full below!

Gavin Hood's 'Ender's Game' Adaptation Set for March 2013 Release
Holy crap, it's really happening! As long as we make it to 2013. That Ender's Game movie now has an official release date - March 15th, 2013. Just like The Avengers, this is one movie I thought we'd never see, but it's coming. Summit Entertainment, who is developing this, has set a number of 2012/2013 release dates (more below) and among them is Ender's Game, which now has that early March 2013 date. I'm always unsure about March movies, but I've been hearing some amazing things and have a feeling this could turn out great. Gavin Hood is directing, but still no casting info yet. A few more dates from Summit below.

Fan-Made 'Tintin' Credits Creator Lands a Job + Invite to the Premiere!
Ha! If we had a category for Awesome, that's where I'd file this. Last week we were one of the first to post about a fan-made opening credits sequence for The Adventures of Tintin that designer James Curran (known as @slimjimstudios) made and posted on Vimeo. I thought it was quite fun and worth featuring, but oh boy has it paid off. Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the Tintin script, recently tweeted (via CinemaBlend) that Steven Spielberg himself saw the video online, loved it, and invited Curran to the UK Tintin premiere and has even hired him to work on the "next movie" he's making. Whoa - congrats James! More info below.

Brad Pitt Joining Impressive Cast for McQueen's 'Twelve Years a Slave'
Director Steve McQueen is already getting plenty of attention for his sexually controversial film Shame starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan, and while his next film, Twelve Years a Slave already sounds promising featuring a reunion with the X-Men: First Class star and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the new is sure to get a considerable amount of exposure with a huge name now joining the cast. Screen Daily reports (and The Playlist confirms) that Brad Pitt, who is already producing the film through his Plan B production banner, will also have a role in the film written by McQueen along with Three Kings scribe John Ridley.

Watch: John Hawkes Sings 'Marcy's Song' from 'Martha Marcy May...'
"She's just a picture... that's all." Fox Searchlight has posted what they're referring to as a music video for Jackson C. Frank's "Marcy's Song", the very eerie yet beautiful song from Sean Durkin's Martha Marcy May Marlene, which just hit the art house circuit. In the film, and in this video, the song is sung by actor John Hawkes, who plays one of the cult leaders in the indie drama also starring Elizabeth Olsen as one of his followers, that he sings this to one night. This is the original cover of the song sung by Hawkes, but it's only just him with a guitar the whole time, nonetheless it's great to listen to. You can watch the video below!
