Building Smashing Video Game 'Rampage' Being Made into a Movie

Rampage Video Game

I knew we'd see this one day! Even though it makes no sense as a movie, it had to happen. THR is reporting that New Line Cinema has started developing an adaptation of the video game Rampage, the one where you take control of a gigantic monster and destroy buildings in a city while the military shoots you down. John Rickard, who's worked on A Nightmare on Elm Street, Horrible Bosses, Final Dest. 5, and Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Killer, is producing and meeting with writers to develop a story for the film. That's exactly the question - how do you develop a story for a movie around this destructive video game franchise?

Stephen Frears Set to Direct Fox Searchlight's 'Bengali Detective' Film

The Bengali Detective / Stephen Frears

Jai Ho? This actually sounds fun. Variety is reporting that Fox Searchlight has lined up acclaimed British director Stephen Frears and screenwriter D.V. DeVincentis, who made High Fidelity (2000) together and are working on Lay the Favorite next, to direct & write the English-language version of The Bengali Detective. A few may remember hearing about this pick-up at Sundance earlier this year, with Searchlight nabbing the "remake" rights, or adaptation rights, as it's a documentary about a real private eye in Calcutta named Rajesh Ji who takes on the criminal underworld while pursuing his dream of dancing on Indian TV.

David Oyelowo Joins the Cast of Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln' Project

David Oyelowo

The cast continues to grow, even while it's shooting. Production is well underway on Steven Spielberg's Lincoln movie, starring Daniel Day-Lewis as our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. The outstanding ensemble cast already features the likes of Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Jackie Earle Haley, Lee Pace, John Hawkes, Hal Holbrook and David Strathairn, but you can toss David Oyelowo on that list too via Deadline, as he'll play a cavalryman in the film, which is currently shooting in Virginia. We last saw Oyelowo in Rise of the Planet of the Apes this summer and he's been in a few other films before.

Watch: Amanda Seyfried Freaks in Heitor Dhalia's 'Gone' First Trailer

Amanda Seyfried in Gone Trailer

"I'll sleep when he's dead." Summit has released the first trailer for the thriller Gone, directed by Brazilian Heitor Dhalia, starring Amanda Seyfried as a girl whose sister gets abducted, and now she thinks the serial killer has returned for her. I'm with Brad Miska in saying that this looks "50% awesome and 50% god awful", because I'm hoping it's a great movie in the end, as I'm a fan of Heitor Dhalia and hope he does well. I think I hear more of the Tron Legacy score in this, and it's a rather intense, revealing full-length trailer, so enjoy. Also co-stars Jennifer Carpenter, Sebastian Stan, Wes Bentley, Joel David Moore and Michael Paré.

Asa Butterfield Offered Lead in Gavin Hood's 'Ender's Game' Movie

Asa Butterfield

Now here's some interesting casting news! Deadline is reporting that Asa Butterfield, the 14-year-old star of Martin Scorsese's Hugo, has been offered the lead role of Ender in Gavin Hood's adaptation of the sci-fi novel Ender's Game. Butterfield was also in Nanny McPhee Returns and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and would play a boy trained in the future as a fleet commander. It seems like it's just an offer so far, but it's likely he'll take it. This is worthy of being mentioned as it also shows that they're casting this for a younger age, exactly from the book. And honestly, he's quite talented, and would make a great Ender if he goes for it.

Watch: Even More Cheesy Sweetness in Second Trailer for 'The Vow'

The Vow

When the stars of two different Nicholas Sparks adaptations come together, you know there's going to be some cheesy romance coming your way. That's exactly how The Vow starring Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) and Channing Tatum (Dear John) will appeal to the masses, and the first trailer for the film effectively pulls at your heartstrings. Basically, it looks like a more dramatic and serious approach to 50 First Dates as a car accident causes a man's wife to forget about him entirely, forcing him to win her over again. It doesn't look half-bad for all those couples and hopeless romantics out there. See the trailer below!

Tarsem Singh Attached to Futuristic Thriller 'Killing on Carnival Row'

Tarsem Singh

Now that Immortals has taken the top spot at the box office this past weekend, it's clear that director Tarsem Singh can open a movie, even if Mirror, Mirror looks like it's going to get stomped to the curb by Snow White and the Huntsman. Now the director has another film in his future as Deadline reports Singh is attached to helm Killing on Carnival Row, a unique serial killer thriller from Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans, Pacific Rim) that takes place in the future within a city called Burgue that resembles 18th century London. However, creatures and humans inhabit the city and there's a serial killer is on the loose.

Angelina Jolie Attached to Lead Ridley Scott's 'Gertrude Bell' Biopic

Angelina Jolie

Back in February, we learned that Werner Herzog was planning a new film called Queen of the Desert with Naomi Watts taking the lead role in the true story of British woman Gertrude Bell, who was a well-known traveler, writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer and political attaché for the British Empire at the dawn of the twentieth century. However, about a month later, we heard Ridley Scott was developing his own film about the pioneering figure aptly titled Gertrude Bell and now THR has word that Angelina Jolie has attached herself to play the lead in what could be Scott's next directing job after Prometheus.

'Get Low' Director Aaron Schneider Meets 'The Conscientious Objector'

Desmond Doss

One of my favorite indie films that did not break out last year was Get Low, the period drama starring Robert Duvall as a Tennessee hermit who wanted to attend his own funeral (here is my review). If you haven't seen it yet, it's on Netflix and is worth watching. The film was the feature directorial debut of Aaron Schneider, a cinematographer-turned-filmmaker who also won an Oscar in 2004 for his short film Two Soldiers. Schneider has apparently been picky about his follow-up to Get Low, but Deadline reports he has said yes and is set to direct The Conscientious Objector for Walden Media, a story about a WWII medic.

Vincent D'Onofrio's Horror Musical 'Don't Go in the Woods' Trailer

Don't Go in the Woods Trailer

"We came out here to write, not to have a good time." Hey don't look at me, I'm as clueless as everyone else as to where this came from. A trailer has debuted for the Tribeca Film release Don't Go in the Woods, a twisted musical-horror hybrid directed by actor Vincent D'Onofrio, starring a bunch of young unknown actors. While this starts out with a promising concept, it quickly turns bad, especially when a bunch of girls randomly show up and the singing actually begins. I prefer The Legend of the Beaver Dam horror musical over this indie trainwreck. If you believe there's some entertainment to get from this, then fire it up below.

Watch 'The ABCs of Death' Contest Winner Claymation 'T is for Toilet'

T is for Toilet - The ABCs of Death

Oh sweet glorious graphic horror, this is awesome! It was announced earlier this week (news via indieWire) the winner of the open submission contest for Drafthouse Films' The ABCs of Death was Lee Hardcastle's claymation short T is for Toilet - which you can see in full below. We've been hyping up the ABCs of Death as it's the kick-ass anthology horror film featuring segments directed by over two dozen horror filmmakers including names like Ti West (The Innkeepers), Jason Eisener (Hobo With a Shotgun) and Adam Wingard (You're Next). This winning T short is fantastic and barely a glimpse of what's to come with 25 other letters.
