First Look: Sean Penn & Josh Brolin in Crime Movie 'Gangster Squad'
Time to meet the "Gangster Squad". One of them. EW.com has posted the first official photo from Ruben Fleischer's Gangster Squad, his upcoming 40s-50s crime drama about the LAPD squad assigned to clean up the Mobsters hitting the town, starring Josh Brolin and Sean Penn. The large-scale Warner Bros project has been shooting all over Los Angeles the last few months, turning iconic local locations back in time. Last night I stumbled across their set on Hollywood Blvd., the famous Chinese Theater completely dressed for the film, and watched as they filmed a gunfight outside the theater. This is going to be awesome!

Chris Nolan Says 'TDKR' to Have Up to 50 Minutes of IMAX Footage
Whoa. If that's not a headline to remember, than I don't know what is! To top off the amazing six-minute IMAX prologue to The Dark Knight Rises that I saw last night (video blog here), our friends at SlashFilm have picked up a very exciting IMAX scoop that's deserving of its own post. At the post-screening reception, they caught up with director Christopher Nolan, who mentioned during their discussion the potential amount of footage that was actually shot on IMAX that will make it into the movie. And it's up to 50 minutes of it. Holy crap! After seeing only six minutes, I can tell you seeing 50 is going to be phenomenal.

Ben Kingsley Joins the Cast as First Adult in Sci-Fi 'Ender's Game'
Looks like Hugo Cabret and Georges Méliès are teaming up again. THR is reporting that Ben Kingsley is in talks to join the cast of Gavin Hood's Ender's Game adaptation, the sci-fi movie in the works at Summit Entertainment. Casting has already been well underway, as we know Hugo star Asa Butterfield will be playing lead Ender Wiggin and, reported recently, Hailee Steinfeld will play Petra, so Kingsley is now the first adult to be officially cast. Kingsley and Butterfield just worked together in Martin Scorsese's Hugo, and they made a great pair. It also doesn't seem like the main Colonel Hyrum Graff role has been set yet either.

Video Blog: 'The Dark Knight Rises' IMAX Prologue was Exhilarating!
Earlier tonight I was invited to come see The Dark Knight Rises six-minute IMAX prologue in glorious full-screen film-projected IMAX. As many know, I am a huge fan of Chris Nolan and his Batman series, and I love The Dark Knight. I wasn't sure what to expect and I haven't been looking at any set photos, so this was all a surprise for me and it was amazing—even for only six minutes! The footage was personally introduced by Nolan himself, who I got to meet after. I won't spoil the experience of watching it unfold, but this is something you must—at any cost—see in full IMAX, it is absolutely exhilarating, your jaw will drop.

Alan Menken Set to Score Relativity & Tarsem's 'Mirror Mirror' Movie
Not that this may change opinions, but it's good news nonetheless. Relativity has announced that legendary Oscar winning composer Alan Menken will compose an original score for the upcoming reimagining of the classic Snow White fairy tale Mirror Mirror, directed by Tarsem Singh. Yes, we've already seen the trailer for this and unfortunately it looks pretty bad. That said, Menken is a great composer, he worked on the scores and songs for films like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Enchanted and Tangled. He makes wonderful, whimsical, Disney-magic scores, which this film certainly needs a bit of right now.

Don't Watch: First Trailer for 'What to Expect When You're Expecting'
Though this weekend will see the clash of dozens of A-list talent in New Year's Eve, next year a smaller number of big stars will find themselves pregnant in the ensemble romantic comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting, based on the best-selling instructional book by Heidi Murkoff. Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock, Anna Kendrick, Elizabeth Banks, Dennis Quaid, Glee's Matthew Morrison and many more star in the film which follows five different couples expecting the arrival of a child in their lives. There's barely a chuckle in this trailer, even with Rob Huebel and Thomas Lennon.

'The Evil Dead' Remake Gets an Official Early April 2013 Release Date
"Shut up, Linda!" Whether you want it or not, the remake of Sam Raimi's original 1981 horror classic Evil Dead is being put into production by Ghost House & Mandate Pictures and Sony & Film District, and it now has an official release date. Bloody-Disgusting reports it is now set for April 12th, 2013. So just before the summer of Star Trek 2, Iron Man 3, Fast 6, Monsters U. and Man of Steel, we'll get our new look at Diablo Cody and director Fede Alvarez's new take on Evil Dead (the logo above), without even an Ash character this time. Instead it's just a story about five friends holed up at a remote cabin who uncover a Book of the Dead.

Operation Early Bird Viral 'Dark Knight Rises' Countdown Launches
Operation Early Bird is coming. Whatever that means? Thanks to tips from sites like SHH & SlashFilm, we now know there's a simple new website for The Dark Knight Rises "viral" campaign that has launched at OperationEarlyBird.com. It all originally came from a tweet by @thefirerises that contained the final CIA document, wherein the phrase "Operation Early Bird" was mentioned. Not a tough clue to figure out, but now the site only contains a countdown timer for the commencement of the operation, which I presume will lead to the early reveal of the trailer or prologue footage or something tomorrow at approx. 10AM PST, based on the clock. We'll keep you updated on the TDKR viral and what Operation Early Bird is from here!

Watch: Zac Efron is Touchy Feely in First Trailer for 'The Lucky One'
"You should be kissed every day, every hour, every minute." It seems kind of strange that it's taken this long for Zac Efron to star in an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel, but here we are with the first trailer for The Lucky One. When the plot synopsis for The Last Photograph from Zack Snyder came out, I knew the plot sounded vaguely familiar and this is why. The film from Scott Hicks (Snow Falling on the Cedars, Shine) follows a Marine who travels to North Carolina after serving in Iraq and searches for the unknown woman from a photo he found on the battlefield that he believes was his good luck charm. Watch below!

Lionsgate Looks to Noble Jones for a Remake of 'American Psycho'
Since Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi flick Starship Troopers getting prepped for a reboot, it's not surprise to hear that another cult classic is in the midst of getting a shiny new remake as well. Deadline has word that Lionsgate has hired Noble Jones to adapt an updated low budget remake of American Psycho, the 2000 film starring Christian Bale based on Bret Easton Ellis' novel of the same name. Jones also hopes to make his feature directorial debut after pitching the project to Lionsgate a few months back with the first draft of the script turned in sometime last month. But don't expect the same Patrick Bateman from the original film.
