Uh Oh? Director Patty Jenkins No Longer Directing Marvel's 'Thor 2'

Thor

Briefly: Some troublesome news from the Marvel world, perhaps? Deadline reports that Patty Jenkins (director of Monster with Charlize Theron), the first female director lined up at Marvel Studios to take on Thor 2, has left the project over "creative differences." They mention she may eventually "end up working on one of these superhero films, but perhaps not on a sequel." Interesting. Instead, Marvel is "canvassing" the agencies for a new director, which means back to the drawing board. Yep, they're already trying to get this into production even though we haven't even seen The Avengers yet, but it has a late November 2013 release. Chris Hemsworth will be back as Thor. We'll let you know who they line up to replace Jenkins.

Watch: 'Christmas Day' Parody Targets 'New Year's Eve' Ensemble Cast

Christmas Day

While some viewers look forward to seeing dozens of their favorite stars in the ensemble holiday comedy New Year's Eve, some people likely don't realize that the film will only allow the dozens of talents like Lea Michele, Ashton Kutcher, Seth Meyers, Halle Berry and much more to have about 7-minutes of screen time in about a dozen different stories. This parody trailer for a new holiday ensemble comedy called Christmas Day points that out, but dares to boast an even bigger cast including John Cusack, Jennifer Aniston, Robert Pattinson, that kid from Jerry Maguire, Jack Skellington, Stephen Hawking and more! Watch below!

Luc Besson is Teaming Up with Angelina Jolie for a 'Big Scale' Movie

Luc Besson / Angelina Jolie

Well, what do we have here? Another brand new project from Luc Besson that will star his latest muse, Angelina Jolie? Yep, that's what it sounds like. Deadline is reporting that Besson's company Europacorp is developing and co-financing and even has US distribution in the works. But despite all that we don't really know a title, or what it's about, besides a few pieces that have been let out, including that it's an "untitled big scale movie written and directed by Luc Besson." Big scale, as in sci-fi, I'm hoping? Not quite, as they go on to call it a "dramatic thriller that is rooted in true scientific elements." Interesting, very interesting.

William Hurt Joins Saoirse Ronan in Niccol's Adaptation of 'The Host'

William Hurt / The Host

The younger members of the cast for the big screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's sci-fi novel The Host have already been lined up with Saoirse Ronan taking the role of Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans putting up a fight against an alien species called Souls and Max Irons and Jake Abel taking the two lead male roles who end up in a strange love triangle with girl. Watch: Danny DeVito Introduces New Theatrical Trailer for 'The Lorax'

The Lorax

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." The first teaser trailer featuring fantastic use of the Polyphonic Spree's song Light & Day gave us a charming look at the world of Dr. Seuss as brought to life by Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's adaptation of the classic The Lorax. Now a full-length theatrical trailer, with an intro by Danny DeVito, who voices the titular mustached character, gives us a better look at how the story is being expanded into a feature length film. Most of the Seuss adaptations have been disappointing, but I have a good feeling about this. Watch!

Watch: First Excellent Tribute to This Year in Film - 'The 2011 Portfolio'

The 2011 Portfolio

Yep, it's that time. It's already December, the year is almost over. Along with big releases, Oscar bait and Top 10 lists aplenty, another annual tradition we see every December are numerous tribute videos, looking back at a year in film. It all began with oyguvaltshappy's first "Year for Drama" video back in 2007, and has continued every year since, because some of these are truly exhilarating to watch. This first one from 2011 (via Awards Daily), created by Alex "hatinhand" and titled The 2011 Portfolio, features some of the best clips and best music from this year ("Immigrant Song", of course). The first of many, already a must watch.

A Few More Details on Pete Docter's 'Inside the Mind' Pixar Project

Pete Docter

Don't get too excited yet! I hate to jump ahead to hype a 2014 release, since that seems so insanely far away right now, but that's where Pixar's focus is at the moment. The next movie from Pete Docter (director of Monsters Inc, Up) was announced/unveiled at D23 this year, known simply as The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind, or Inside the Brain. We don't know much about it at all beyond that, but thanks to a new quote from a Charlie Rose interview (here) with John Lasseter, via The Pixar Times, we now actually have at least a better idea of the characters, and it sounds very intriguing, to say the least.

Check This Out: Great Minimalist Poster for 'The Dark Knight Rises'

The Dark Knight Rises Minimalist Poster

With only one official poster hitting theaters in promotion of The Dark Knight Rises so far, fans are surely looking forward to more. After The Dark Knight delivered that amazing poster featuring Heath Ledger and The Joker with the blood-written "Why So Serious?" tagline, hopefully something with Tom Hardy as Bane emerges sooner than later. But for now, Superhero Hype (via SlashFilm) points us to a fantastic minimalist poster for the film crafted by Ryan Luckoo at Deviant Art. With a great juxtaposition of Bane's face and Batman's cape span, this should hold us over until a new poster shows up. See it below!

First Look: David Duchovny in Christopher Neil's Indie Comedy 'Goats'

David Duchovny in Goats

One of the stranger entries on the Sundance 2012 line-up in the Premieres category announced yesterday was a film titled Goats, indeed involving goats, and a Goat Man of sorts, played by David Duchovny. This ensemble comedy is actually about a 15-year-old kid, played by Graham Phillips who you might recognize from Evan Almighty or Ben 10 or "The Good Wife", who leaves his Tuscon home to attend Gates Academy, an East Coast prep school. The cast includes Vera Farmiga, Ty Burrell, Keri Russell, Minnie Driver and Justin Kirk. We've got four first look photos via Collider to go along with the exciting Sundance news.
