J.J. Abrams Says 'Star Trek 2' Will Shoot in 2D and Maybe Also IMAX
Even though we're still waiting to learn whether or not Khan will actually turn out to be the villain in the forthcoming sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2009 franchise reboot of Star Trek, we definitely know that the film is hitting theaters on May 17th, 2013 in 3D. However, MTV News recently caught up with the director who revealed a little bit more about the developing sequel that is both disappointing and exciting at the same time. First, Abrams revealed that they will be shooting in 2D and convert the film to 3D in post-production, and while that's a little tragic, they're also talking about shooting in IMAX as well.

Hank Azaria, Maybe James Franco & More Join the Cast of 'Lovelace'
When it was first announced that Howl directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman were working on Lovelace, a film about Linda Boreman, aka Linda Lovelace, the world's first pornographic superstar who gained infamy after starring in Deep Throat, Hollywood's busiest man, James Franco, was lined up to play husband Chuck Traynor. However, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes star fell away from project and has been replaced with Peter Sarsgaard. But it appears Franco is in the mix again with an interesting cameo and new cast members including Hank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale, Robert Patrick and Chris Noth.

Roger Ebert Reveals His List for the Top 20 Best Feature Films of 2011
It's getting closer to the end of 2011, so in addition to the several videos looking back at this year in film, there will also be several year-end lists coming our way looking at the best and the worst of 2011. My lists will be coming closer to the end of the year, but critic Roger Ebert has already decided to chime in with a list of what he calls The Best Films of 2011. His top choice isn't a clear frontrunner and kind of comes from left field, but Ebert still includes buzzworthy awards contenders like Shame, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, The Artist and even love for Drive and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II.

Watch: Fantastic New Story Featurette for Steve McQueen's 'Shame'
"There's a battle going on, an individual battle." Fox Searchlight recently posted a new featurette online (via Awards Daily) for Steve McQueen's Shame, which is currently playing in limited release with an NC-17 rating. Michael Fassbender stars in the film and appears in this featurette, along with writer & director Steve McQueen and co-star Carey Mulligan. The editing in this video, with the music in the background and everything, is what makes it particularly impressive for a featurette. It also happens that this is still one of my favorite films of the year and it's topping lists like Roger Ebert's Best of 2011 as well. Worth seeing!

Video Interview: Jeremy Irvine - Young Star of Spielberg's 'War Horse'
Meet Jeremy Irvine. He plays Albert in Steven Spielberg's War Horse, the role of a lifetime to launch a budding young actor's career. I'm a Spielberg fanatic and enjoyed War Horse and jumped (no pun intended) at an opportunity to speak with Jeremy, the young lead, when it was offered. With the release coming this weekend, here is my interview with Jeremy, who's now 21 years old and looks a bit older than he does in the film. We have a great chat about making War Horse and his love for acting all around, including a story about a summer of riding horses with fellow stars Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch. View below!

Ryan Gosling & Jim Carrey in Drunk History's 'Night Before Christmas'
For those who didn't get enough of Ryan Gosling this year with fantastic turns in The Ides of March, Crazy Stupid Love and Drive, a bit of an early Christmas present has manifested itself in the form of Funny or Die's holiday themed installment of their hilarious on-going series Drunk History. Comedian Allan McLeod painstakingly tries to recite The Night Before Christmas after having half a bottle of whiskey (a fine Christmas dinner for anyone), but thankfully, Gosling, Jim Carrey and Eva Mendes chip in to help tell this complicated story of Christmas magic. Who can remember all of Santa's reindeer anyway? Watch!

Ludovic Bource's 'The Artist' Score May Get Worldwide Concert Tour
I've had the opportunity to write about many of my favorite scores from this year, and here's yet another one. Billboard (via AV Club) is reporting that WME and The Weinstein Company are considering putting together a live orchestra concert tour with French composer Ludovic Bource behind the score for Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist. The film is also one of my favorites this year, just a wonderful ode to the silent filmmaking era, and the score is a magnificent throwback as well, inspired by Alfred Newman's old scores. Apparently Bource has even passed on three projects while preparing for the potential tour. Sounds great!

Insiders Worried About Understanding Bane in 'The Dark Knight Rises'
Whether you've taken the time to check out Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol on select IMAX screens, shamefully watched a leaked version online, or simply read about the footage itself, many fans anticipating The Dark Knight Rises have already experienced the six-minute prologue introducing Tom Hardy as the bulky and mysterious villain Bane in some form or another. The consensus among those having actually seen the footage is that the masked and muffled villain isn't always easy to understand, and THR has word that insiders at Warner Bros. share this same concern. But is this as big of a deal as it seems? Read on!

CGI Yoda Gets 'Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace' 3D Poster
Whether you want it or not, the 3D re-release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is hitting theaters in February. However, with George Lucas' desire to keep changing his films years after completion, this release features at least one element not yet seen on the big screen in The Phantom Menace: a CGI Yoda replacing the puppet initially used when the film was released in 1999. The animated version of the character was used in both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, but has only been seen on the Blu-Ray release of Episode I until this Russian poster showed up reminding us of Lucas' meddling ways.

Matt Damon Talks Directing Debut & Frances McDormand Joins Cast
Just a couple of months ago, we learned that Matt Damon was looking to get behind-the-camera for a future project that he co-wrote with with "The Office" and It's Complicated star John Krasinski, after developing the idea with author Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius). Damon and Krasinski are also said to start in the untitled film about a salesman who arrives in a small town only to have his whole life called into question, and now The Business (via The Film Stage) has word that Almost Famous and Burn After Reading star Frances McDormand has also joined the cast of the gestating film. Watch: Second Awesome 'Prometheus' Trailer Preview Arrives Early
"I'm thrilled to be doing another science fiction." The countdown has begun. Earlier today, 20th Century Fox unveiled the first "teaser preview" for Ridley Scott's Prometheus, a "three days left" preview of behind-the-scenes footage and more, but just a glimpse. Now the second one, the "two days left" portion, has arrived early via leaks from Alien Prequel News/The Film Stage, and it's a huge step up from the first one. This is starting to look absolutely breathtaking, with some huge sci-fi crashes and crazy floating actors, I am beyond excited for this, it looks amazing! Glimpses of Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace ahead.

Check This Out: Newsletter from the Strange World of 'ParaNorman'
The initial teaser trailer and a more brief international trailer gave us a decent glimpse into the world of Laika's new stop-motion animated feature ParaNorman, but now a crafty piece of promotional material has made its way online in the form of a fictional town newsletter from the town of Blithe Hollow. It seems to set the backdrop for the story following a young boy (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee from Let Me In) who can speak to the dead and must save his town from a zombie uprising. There are some nice touches included ads for Witchy Wieners and Bar Gento, and this is a great piece of promo material. See it below!
