A Biopic on Dr. Seuss Planned for Johnny Depp to Lead and Produce
That's right, the headline rhymes on purpose. What better way to introduce a biopic on legendary children's author Dr. Seuss? All right, I promise that was the last rhyme as the real point of this story is pass long the news from Risky Biz that superstar Johnny Depp will play Thedor Geisel (Dr. Seuss) in a biopic about the author behind such classic titles as The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Illumination Entertainment will team with Depp's Infinitum Nihil banner (since the actor is also producing the film) for a story that will chronicle the life of one of the greatest children's authors in history. More details below!
After growing up in Springfield, Massachusetts, Geisel went to college at Dartmouth and later drew up ads, comic strips and political cartoons during World War II. He also took post as commander of the Animation Dept of the First Motion Picture Unit of the United States Army Air Forces, where he wrote films that included Your Job in Germany, a 1945 propaganda film about peace in Europe after World War II, Our Job in Japan, and the Private Snafu series of adult army training films. It wasn't until 1950 that Geisel would begin publishing the books that became the classics we all know and love today. The author's life is ripe for a great story, and with Depp involved, perhaps there's a chance that some of Seuss' trademark worlds could come to life in the biopic as well.
