Last November we found out that Ben Hibon, the man behind that animated sequence where Hermione tells The Tale of The Three Brothers and the history/myth of the Deathly Hallows in the most recent installment of the Harry Potter franchise, would be at the helm of a contemporary crime thriller that puts a twist on the classic tale of Peter Pan. Ben Magid wrote the original script that may or may not still simply be called Pan that has Captain Hook as a tormented former detective on the trail of a childlike kidnapper. Now Screen Daily reports Aaron Eckhart will play Hook (yea!) and two more actors have also joined the cast. Read on.
Lord of the Rings star Sean Bean will be playing Smee, the chief detective and Hook's only ally on the police force while AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer) will play Wendy the lone survivor who leaves an asylum to help in the hunt. Personally, I think a different time period setting and a supernatural twist on the story would serve for a better story that could be treated as the "true" story of Peter Pan, but that's just me. Apparently the project is looking to be sold at Cannes this week with an eye towards starting production in October. I'm interested to see how Peter Pan will come into play in this sort of flipped, contemporary version of the story, and with Eckhart as Hook, I'm even more intrigued. How about you?
