Apple Debuts a Must-Download New Movie Trailer App on iOS Devices

October 12, 2011
Well there you go, now you can stop reading FirstShowing. All you need is an iPad, this new trailers app, and you're good to go for every new trailer that comes out. Apple has debuted a new app today, on the same day as the new iOS 5 upgrade, titled iTunes Movie Trailers, a free download on all iOS devices including the iPad. It connects in with the Apple trailer page, which is where most new trailers are debuted (in high def as well), and presents a sleek look at the latest trailers, including galleries, details, favorites, and much more. It's definitely a kick ass app and anyone who loves trailers needs to download this thing right away.
I gave this thing a whirl and it's pretty damn good, it works fast and smooth, easy to navigate. There's even a nifty Calendar section which organizes the trailers in a vertical chart by the film's release date. There's also a Top 25 and In Theaters ticketing section with one of the best timing layouts I've seen, making this an impressive app for just trailers. My only gripe is that it still doesn't seem to be showing full HD trailers, even on the iPad, though they claim it does. I want the option to see if I'm watching 480, 720 or 1080P high def, which should be easy for them to do. Other than that, this definitely is a must-download for all movie fans, though we'll still be posting trailers every day on here, too. Click anywhere below for the iTunes page:
Thanks to SlashFilm for the tip. iTunes Movie Trailers puts the newest and most exclusive movie previews in HD in your hands. More features include: Access hundreds of movie trailers, clips, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and images, available in HD or SD. Search what's playing at your local theaters and purchase tickets directly from your iPad or iPhone. Save images to your iPad photo gallery, to use as iPad or desktop wallpapers or send to your friends. Enjoy your favorite movie trailers on your TV with AirPlay and Apple TV. Email or tweet trailer recommendations to your friends. And new today: Use iCloud to push your favorite theaters and movie trailers to all of your iOS devices. The app requires at least iOS version 4.3 to be used.
With this new trailer app and that awesome IMDb trivia game, movies are making strong appearance in the iPhone/iPad app world recently. I expect we'll see many more movie-themed apps to come (including maybe some of our own), but for now we're excited to upgrade to iOS 5 and get our hands on a new iPhone 4S this week. Download the Apple iTunes Movie Trailers app on your iDevice and let us know what you think of it.
