Billy Bob Thornton in Negotiations to Return for 'Bad Santa' Sequel
"It's Christmas and the kid's gettin' his f**kin' present!" Oh I love Bad Santa, one of my favorite Christmas comedies, right up there with Christmas Vacation. We've heard rumors and studio buzz that a Bad Santa sequel was in development, but now The Wrap has confirmed that The Weinstein Company is in the midst of developing it. In fact, they've even roped in Billy Bob Thornton, who's "in negotiations" to reprise his role as foul-mouthed crook Willie. This isn't that surprising, considering Billy Bob has already been talking about how much everyone loves the original. "I've never done a sequel... but that one makes sense to me."
As for Bad Santa 2, we don't know who is writing or directing though I'm sure they just haven't announced, but The Weinstein Company and Miramax (who partnered to produce) are making sure the sequel follows in the same footsteps as the original, released in 2003. "We feel that it's a Christmas perennial for the R-rated crowd," a Weinstein spokesperson told The Wrap. "Everyone loves the character and Billy Bob's excited to be in talks with us." Great to hear. As a big fan of that first film, I'm excited to see this sequel come together. They just need to get Tony Cox and Lauren Graham back too, and the whole team will be together again.
