Bradley Cooper Back on 'Silver Linings Playbook' with Robert De Niro
Though he was originally slated to star in the film alongside Anne Hathaway when we heard about the project back in December, actor Bradley Cooper fell away from David O. Russell's adaptation of Matthew Quick's novel The Silver Linings Playbook, so then Mark Wahlberg was going to reunite with The Fighter director on the film instead. However, now Deadline says that with the production start pushed back, Wahlberg is exiting the film and Cooper is back in the picture with Limitless co-star Robert De Niro also entering talks to star. The two join Jennifer Lawrence who has taken Hathaway's role in the film.
It sounds like Wahlberg already has Broken City with Allen Hughes slated to shoot around the same time as Silver Linings Playbook, and that has caused him to drop from the film. His loss is Cooper's gain who has plenty of interesting projects in his future including Alex Proyas' Paradise Lost, a remake of The Crow and Derek Cianfrance's The Place Beyond the Pines. In this film he'll play a history teacher recently released from a mental hospital and placed in the care of his mother. Initially he plans on winning back his ex-wife, but instead gets caught up with an eccentric neighbor (Lawrence) who has problems of her own. The project is expected to shoot this fall, and it sounds like one to look forward to next year.
