Casting: Eric Bana is 'Brilliant' & Rodigo Santoro Takes 'The Last Stand'
A couple quick casting updates coming at you right now with Variety first reporting that Eric Bana (Munich, The Time Traveler's Wife) will team with director Robert Luketic (Killers, 21) for a heist movie called Brilliant. Gillian Gorfil (a producer on Blood Diamond) is making her feature film writing debut with this story about a small-time criminal who joins accomplished thieves in a diamond heist. Thankfully, Luketic fares better with material like this rather than his romantic comedy endeavors like The Ugly Truth or Monster-in-Law. With the action star poised to make his big screen comeback in The Last Stand from director Jee-woon Kim (The Good, the Bad, the Weird), the cast surrounding Arnold Schwarzenegger is beginning to fill out. Latino Review has word that Rodrigo Santoro, perhaps best known for playing Xerxes in 300, has landed a role in the action thriller. The story follows a small town sheriff (Schwarzenegger) with a rookie staff trying to stop violent gangs with ties to a big drug cartel from escaping to Mexico. Santoro will play Frank Martinez, one of the rookie police officers. Filming is expected to being next month.
