Catherine Zeta-Jones Joining Adaptation of 'Rock of Ages' Musical
Though a recent Casting Tidbits informed you that Amy Adams wouldn't be taking part in Hairspray director Adam Shankman's big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages, another lovely lady has just joined the cast. THR reports Catherine Zeta-Jones will join the cast as a character who actually does not appear in the original musical. Shankman says, "It’s a character that we only really came to in the last month. The character was invented to streamline the stories.” As far as snagging the Chicago star for the role, the director said, “It’s like the musical gods just blessed us!" More new character details below!
Apparently Shankman described the character as "if Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant had a love child. She is this hardcore, moral majority, arch-conservative who wants to shut down rock ’n' roll in the great city of Los Angeles." Knowing how well she played a cutthroat bitch in Chicago, this role sounds right up her alley. Having her join a cast that includes Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti and more is just icing on the cake. I'm really looking forward to this musical adaptation down the road! How about you?
