Check This Out: Bad Robot's Kick Ass New Action Movie FX iOS App

Despite that otherwise cheesy sounding title, the Action Movie FX app is pretty damn cool. Launched last week just before the holidays and created by Andrew Kramer and David Baronoff of Bad Robot Interactive, the app allows you to add very high quality action movie visual effects to any video footage you shoot. My first introduction to this was when Peter Sciretta from SlashFilm sent me a video casually driving on the highway, when suddenly a helicopter crashes in front of them and they smash into it. It completely caught me off guard, my heart leapt for a second. The reviews in the App Store confirm just how great the app is.

Like with all iOS apps, your best bet is to just download it and try it out to see how it works. The app itself is currently free, and comes with two effects - missile attack and car smash. For an extra $0.99 each, you can download more FX packs that include the chopper crash, a tornado, an air strike and machine gun firefight (which may be the cheesiest one). The app itself has an impressive, sleek design and is very easy to use, which means these kind of FX videos will permeate YouTube very quickly. Here's a demo video of all the FX:

If you're interested in downloading this and checking it out, you can get it in the App Store. It'll work on most iOS devices, including iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or 4S, the iPad 2 and the iPod Touch 4th Gen. I've seen some great videos so far, but I'd love to see more if anyone makes something awesome. Post 'em below!

Action Movie FX, created by Bad Robot Interactive, lets you add Hollywood FX using your iPhone's video camera! You direct the action! The features include sound design by Skywalker Sound; fast, automated video tracking; music, sound effects and lens flares (of course!) in addition to the visuals; and social features like the ability to post to Facebook and email your video to friends. Additional effects packs are on the way, since I'm sure they can dream up thousands of various effects from movies. This is another impressive app from Bad Robot to compliment the Super 8 camcorder app they also released earlier this year. Give it a try!
