The Future According to Film

There have been countless films that have taken us years, decades, even centuries into the future, and the idea our unforeseen years, technological advancements and progression as a human race is always a fascinating subject to see brought to life on the big screen. It can be difficult to keep track of all the variations on the world in the future, but thankfully Tremulant Design (via Geek Tyrant) has crafted The Future According to Film a huge timeline infographic noting the drastic changes in society, technology and more that have been seen on the big screen in films like Alien, Fifth Element and even Tank Girl.

Here's the huge inforgraphic for you to scroll through (click for a much larger version):

The Future According to Film Infographic

It's really interesting to see all the films have their chronology laid out as if they would all exist in the same universe. The fact that television series like "The Jetsons" are also included is great for anyone who is obsessed with all things pop culture too. There are so many futuristic thoughts and ideas that are close to hitting the real-time depicted in film, and sadly that means crushed dreams because it's highly unlikely that hoverboards from Back to the Future Part II won't be sold in stores by 2015. Of course, here's hoping that certain aspects of the future like a self-aware Skynet and other such apocalyptic events don't come to life in our time.
