Composer Alan Menken Making Original Music for 'Captain America'

We're still not sure who is composing the score for Joe Johnston's take on Marvel's comic book adaptation Captain America: The First Avenger, though it's rumored that Star Trek composer Michael Giacchino may be taking the job. However, apparently a certain musical master will be lending his talents to the movie in the form of some original songs outside of the realm of a motion picture score. Badass Digest has learned from an inside source at Marvel that Disney composer Alan Menken (the man behind the music for Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Newsies and more) is working on some sort of new music for the summer blockbuster.
Whether or not he'll be writing the music or just acting as a producer on the songs (or maybe just one song) is unclear, but his musical presence wouldn't be all that peculiar. Badass points out that Steve Rogers (after he becomes Captain America) is sent out on a USO Tour to keep the morale of the troops high. For such a show, it would stand to reason that Cap would need some sort of song and dance number to accompany him as he makes his way onstage. I don't expect a desperate attempt at an Original Song Oscar nomination like "I See You" from Avatar, but Menken's involvement is certainly an interesting new development nonetheless.
